Bert was going to defend his captain but then avoided a stupid penalty by standing down when the ref continued to separate them. -

"Helm (shoulder) is likely to return Monday against the Predators. The shoulder injury cost Helm most of December, but it sounds like he'll be back before the calender turns to 2014. Luke Glendening was sent down Saturday in anticipation of Helm's activation from IR." Not confirmed but seems likely especially if Glendening was sent down. -
Drop the announcer and "Light the lamp goal"
MabusIncarnate replied to HIFI_canadian's topic in General
It's only going to get worse over time, they started with the ads along the boards which is fine, but now you are seeing these CG ads on the glass behind the goalie net, stranger arena names, and everything presenting or sponsoring some event in the game. I haven't seen professional sports in the USA advertise on jerseys of the more popular sports like the NFL so i'd assume it would hit those sports before it ever reaching the NHL. I'd guess it would begin with the super bowl, one little advertisement on the helmet and the jersey and then it building off of that, or even a website URL typed within the yellow CG line of scrimmage. There will be more creatively annoying ways to force more advertising into pro sports as the years go on, it's inevitable. I just hope it doesn't turn into the catastrophe that Holmstrom96 posted above. -
Being it's vacant i'll pick up tomorrow at Nashville.

Greetings from the United States, and welcome to the site! It really all depends on how far back you want to go, as an original 6 NHL team the Red Wings history is rich and deep, a good place to begin would be researching and learning about the legacy of Gordie Howe, one of the all time greatest players to ever grace the NHL and wear a Wings sweater. If you aren't looking to go that far back, the early 90's would be a good place to begin, when this team finally saw a turn around when Nicklas Lidstrom, Steve Yzerman, and Sergei Fedorov became part of this franchise and began creating legendary milestones. You also have the vicious rivalry sparked by the Kris Draper incident between Detroit and Colorado, and how that all escalated and made itself an important part of Red WIngs history. There is a really good dvd box set titled The Detroit Red WIngs: A Celebration Of Champions that has a ton of great information, classic games, important events, and their more recent championship games. It's a wonderful place to begin as a new Red Wings fan (I'm confident you'll become one of us... one of us... one of us) and start submersing yourself in everything that makes Hockeytown great. I hope this helped, and look forward to seeing you develop as a fan of one of the greatest teams on the planet.

I wouldn't call it irrelevant at all, considering it's still basically the top 8 in each conference making the playoffs anyway with a different layout. The only exception is if the 3rd place division playoff seed has less points than the top 6 in their opposing division which likely won't ever happen. If it does, that 6th team that has more points than the 3rd in the opposite division will miss the playoffs. It likely won't ever happen that way. Otherwise it's still the top 8 representing so conference standings still have relevancy. This is just a rough example. Atlantic Boston - 52 Tampa Bay - 49 Montreal - 47 Metropolitan Pittsburgh - 55 Washington - 52 Philadelphia - 38 Wildcard Detroit - 43 Toronto - 41 Non-Playoff Teams Ottawa - 40 New York - 38 New Jersey - 37 In this instance Philadelphia still makes the playoffs even though Ottawa has more points because of the top 3 divisional seeds getting a slot. Again, for this to pan out at the end of the season like this would be very rare but this is the only exception to the new layout.

Hockeytown authentics is not really authentic
MabusIncarnate replied to HIFI_canadian's topic in Water Cooler
Not going to beat a dead horse but two things I noticed about the article the OP posted. First thing is the fact that it's a blog written by a fan which makes the information more opinion based opposed to factual. Also, the article was written in February 2012, which was nearly two years ago and the transition of jerseys from Reebok has changed since this date. Information on NHL "authentic" jerseysBy RedWingFanInNC on Feb 1 2012, 7:29p Point being, you can rest assured that your wife got what she paid for and this is about as good as it gets as far as NHL jerseys go except like BottleofSmoke mentioned you get a game worn jersey. -
Hockeytown authentics is not really authentic
MabusIncarnate replied to HIFI_canadian's topic in Water Cooler
Exactly, true authentic Reebok jerseys are made in both Canada and Indonesia. It is absolutely authentic believe it or not, I could see where your concern comes from but what you received is a true and real Reebok jersey. It's not the problem of "Hockeytown Authentics" because it's where Reebok has their official jerseys made, the information that they are only made in Canada is incorrect. They are advertising it and selling it properly. -
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all the great fans here on the best Red Wings fan site on the internet. I thank and appreciate all the hard work that Matt does, the rest of the site moderators, our regular GDT creators, and the ongoing support from the posters that fill the boards with opinions and knowledge. It's a brilliant community and I wish everyone a safe and happy day. Let's bring in the new year with healthy players and lots of wins, GO RED WINGS!!

I can see this being a big part of sports future. I mean they can put impressively functioning cameras with video in cell phones that weigh next to nothing and would fit snug into a helmet without adding additional weight or interfering with that players mobility. I think what holds it back is television and censorship, you can't ask players to watch their mouths but you can't have F bombs being dropped on live television on public channels either. In my mind, this is likely why we haven't seen more stuff like this during games, as great as it would be and even make the shootout a bit more interesting with player and goalie-eye views of it going down. I'd be happy with them bringing back the glow puck but i'm easy to please. It was kinda like watching Tron hockey.

Injured Ericsson out 3-5 weeks with Fractured Ribs
MabusIncarnate replied to HockeytownRules19's topic in General
I really don't remember a season when injuries were THIS bad. I mean there have been a few rough stretches in recent memory but not to this capacity. This is yet another respectable quality player not on the squad for an extended period of time, and long term it's really going to damage this teams chances of making playoffs this year unless something improves fast. -
Not likely, i'm not a huge football fan but I find myself watching a lot of Falcons/Titans because of geography. Neither are Denver, Seattle, or Kansas City. The person below me wants to buy an Islanders jersey just to burn it.

GDT 12/23 GDT : Islanders 3 at Red Wings 0

The way we have been playing this season I expect Florida, New York and Philly to be auto-losses because they are the least threatening. Likely will win 3 of 4 against Los Angeles, St. Louis and Chicago and the rest will be a crap shoot. -

Look on the bright side, we are only on a 1 game losing streak right now.. We need to get healthy, bottom line. This is getting painful to watch, pun sort of intended. -

He also led the league in blocked shots if I remember correctly. The Rangers have been pretty bad as a whole the past couple of seasons, while some of it falls on his shoulders I think the team's bad play reflects on that more than his individual performance. He played better under Tort's system I felt like also, but who knows how he'd perform here. Again, kind of unlikely that either would land here but I like Girardi as a player personally. -

Edler is better offensively but is generally a bit of a liability on defense, he's like a lower end Letang. Granted the additional offense would be nice he's not going to be much help improving the goals against issues. Girardi on the other hand isn't amazing on offense but he's a solid defensive player, is capable of blocking a lot of shots and playing a physical game. If allowed to play his game, he would be a difference maker here. If I had to pick between the two i'd bring in Girardi, i'm not opposed to Edler but I think the price that comes with him the money can be better invested elsewhere. I don't think either land here though in reality. -
