Finally a shootout win. A big thanks to Alf and Dats who were both big reasons why we won these last two games. -

At least we scored 3 goals so far! -
I always thought it would be fun to be within Tie Domi's splash zone.

I'd like to claim Saturday, January 18th, LA Kings @ Red Wings

Keep Tootoo in the lineup, he brought energy, he was noticeable, and helped this squad win tonight. Even against Calgary, it's a win and it's two points, and that's more than we could have said these past few games. Stay confident younglings, the force is with you. Let's keep winning games, it's a lot more fun this way. -

Yeah exactly, that's basically 2 of their top 3 players imo. Only a couple injuries but significant ones, might prove to be beneficial and help us out tonight. -
They made it to the 2nd round of the playoffs and brought the cup champs to an intense game 7. They are hammered with important player injuries and are on a small losing skid because of it. Coaching only can do so much, considering the circumstances it would be pretty unfair to Babcock at this moment to even consider this his fault and jeopardize his job due to reasons beyond his control. Plus, I sound like a broken record here as I keep saying this, this team is still sitting 6th in the East and that's pretty damn impressive all things considered to be in a playoff position. Granted the Wings lead the league in OT loss points, but in this modern NHL points are points and that's what determines the overall standings. There is one resolution here, it's not the coach, it's not the GM, it's the injuries. Get healthy, and they begin to play better.

Graphics updated with tonight's lineup as released by Ansar KHAN! Should be final going into the game. Monster is allowed a bad game every now and again, that's why he's the backup. I expect a bounce back and him to come up big as he has prior to last game. It's the Flames, WE WILL WIN! GO RED WINGS!!! -
So next gen consoles? Who is making the jump

Yeah I think Dropkick's post above is correct, hopefully they will sell a separate adapter wire to plug into the Xbox One controller opposed to having to buy a new set of Turtle Beaches. Regardless, they are worth the investment even if you have to buy a new set especially for shooters, having voice chat capability and surround sound online to hear where enemies are approaching from all in one is invaluable. I'm on my second pair in 6 years and not sure if I could do without them now. -

Once more updated lines become available i'll update, lines as they are currently posted are purely speculation. -
It's more the comparison of playing at a higher level than to be expected. Right now Steen is on pace for a 90 point season, which will not happen. Any season prior he's put up the most of 50 points, which is more about the level he is at as a player. Clarkson won't produce offensively again like he had for the contract he was paid, and Steen will never reach a 70+ point season beyond this one if he does hit that mark. Comparing the two last year, Clarkson and Steen were separated by only 3 points, which in a full season would have been 6 points. I know they are very different style of players, but the contracts that were given to both were based around their highest career level of play that likely won't be matched again. I could be wrong, but I think Steen is a career 50-60 point per season max player as Clarkson is a career 30-40 point per season player. Steen is essentially making one million less per season now as Datsyuk and he is nowhere near the same level of player. Again, just my opinion, but I think it's an overpayment.
-
Way too much money for Steen imo. He's a solid player but he's playing out of his mind right now, and I find it hard to believe he can even come close to a repeat season like the one he is having. He's worthy of $3.5 - $4.0 max but close to 6 mil per is nuts. Clarkson is a perfect example, had an out of character season last year, got overpaid, and he's back to being his mediocre self with 6 points in 24 games and coming off his 2nd suspension this season already.

Yep, my best friend and former roommate is Dec 26th. The person below me is in a creative mood today,

It's a Christmas miracle!! There is zero reason why he hasn't played a game yet this season, but better late than never.

That's like the awful knit sweater you get from your Grandmother in goalie pad form.

I'm pretty sure withholding pay for lack of production is breach of contract and illegal, so that's a non-option. I also don't think the Detroit Red Wings have a long standing tradition of following the Montreal Canadian way so i'm not entirely sure what the relation or reference to that means. Players aren't programmed to be suddenly called up and be NHL ready, that's why there is an NHL level and an AHL level. AHL players are not supposed to be NHL ready, that's why they are in the AHL to develop. It's also why a healthy AHL team would get destroyed by an NHL team. It isn't a level playing field, you have young, inexperienced players being put into first-time NHL scenarios and the expectation of them to suddenly start being productive and keep the team at a top notch level isn't realistic. If you run a factory with 20 employees and 8 veterans are replaced by 8 new hires the overall production won't maintain it's normal pace, it will drop until all the new guys get a hang of things and learn how things work. Its a similar situation.

My mind goes to a poster on Fox Mulder's office on the X-Files that had a UFO on it and said "I Want To Believe". That's about how I feel at this moment, I want to think this is still a competitive and skilled team, and they will make the playoffs again this season and make some kind of run toward the finals. The fan in me, the optimist and support I have for this team, i'll always consider them top level and competitive. Realistically right now it's not fair to judge the current state of this team when so many players are void from it. This is not the team that has been built, this is a low point with entirely too many key players not in the lineup. We have kids that have barely played any NHL games and 3rd-4th line players thrown into 1st and 2nd line responsibility. There's not much chemistry yet as they haven't had time to play with all of these new players. Can we turn things around? Of course when we have more players back in the lineup and our starting goaltender back. Will we do it this month? Not likely, and having expectations of this being a winning team right now is a bit nuts. So as we sit, we are going to struggle, and we'll continue to struggle. Come January we'll be back in a bit of an uphill battle until we can finally get healthy again (hopefully) and start to win games again. This being a healthy team is a skilled and potentially competitive team, but don't judge the state of the Wings as they currently sit.

The world is ending, it's official. Cleary scores.
-
He's busy stuffing his face with $5.00 hot N ready pizzas. I went into tonight with low expectations considering how the starting lineup looks, not really too shocked by the result so far.
-
Glendening, Jurco, Andersson, and Sheahan all get hat tricks, the Red Griffs blow up offensively and put up 97 shots and win 17-0. Datsyuk breaks the NHL record for assists and points with 1 goal 14 assists and 15 points. Cleary and Sammy combine for 1 assist. Hiller turns his crease yellow and Getzlaf cries. Here we go good vibes here we go! GO RED WINGS!!!!!

I only have the first Gears because it was free these past couple weeks. I still think the original had the best online multiplayer, I know i'm the minority in that opinion, but i've still been playing it online a few nights a week with friends and really enjoy it. I may pick 3 back up again at some point because I never played much of the campaign, there's a lot of sales going on this week for the "Countdown to 2014" promo they are running on Xbox Live so if it comes up and is pretty inexpensive i'll likely consider buying it.

Can't remember the last time we were this pathetic
MabusIncarnate replied to nyqvististhefuture's topic in General
This in a festive holiday nut shell. There's a lot of unreal expectations of how this team should play while plagued with so many injuries. It's no different than say the Blackhawks being down Toews, Sharp, Bickell, Seabrook, Crawford, Shaw, and Handzus with Kane just returning a couple games ago after being out with a concussion. You can't honestly expect them to continue to play like a top NHL squad with all of those guys missing from the lineup. If you are taking away that many key players from a team, have 3rd/4th line players on the top two lines, it's going to be a struggle. You need your core to win games. It sucks that right now we are on a 4 game losing skid, but it's not time to panic or jump ship. Wait until the end of the month when we get a few big names back in the line up and see how things go then. The season is 82 games long for a reason, and we're barely at the halfway point and still sitting in a playoff position even with the recent woes.
