Remember in the offseason.. how many people were so pissed when we signed Tootoo.. Yeah.
-
As banged up as our defense is I don't think scratching him tonight isn't just giving him a rest. If he was paired with the lines that are on the ice the most I think we'd see a different picture. I could live without the plus minus stat and that stat really doesn't say a whole lot about anything. +1 for you though Axe for finally posting something reasonably positive, still not sure if it needed it's own thread though.

For the love of God, we can beat the Jackets... right? Wings win 5-4 Someone is gonna net 3 tonight, hopefully they are on our team. GO RED WINGS!!!
-
Welcome to the site, maybe you will be good luck for us tonight! We could all use a bit of a confidence boost lately.
-
Is Center the position we should be looking for right now? idk if outscoring the defensive lapses is the answer. I still wouldn't mind seeing another scoring forward but it seems to be addressing the wrong area of the roster.

I hope Rinne's water bottle cap pops off and he gets injured choking on it. Then Mason can have a repeat performance of yesterday! Welcome back!!! This sir may be worthy of a thread in the rumor section.. i'm slightly intrigued.

I like it! Let's beat Trashville please for the sanity of the entire site tonight. Wings win 4-3 after starting with a 4-0 lead. Lashoff 4 goals Howard 3 assists Hudler 2 assists GO WINGS!!!!

Today reminded me of some of the early NFL officiating with the replacement refs, that Duchene goal being allowed is unacceptable. I don't understand why they don't adjust the rule for situations like this that if they decide it's a complete and utter crap call between periods that it becomes overturned. Even in Jeopardy if they get something wrong after the commercial break they will fix it and readjust the points. I don't like Nashville but they got the shaft today.

Here we go Dman at deadline here we go. stomp stomp.

Anyone else getting pissed that the Wings can't hold leads

AND we are scoring goals in the first period. Bad news is the other two periods are now irrelevant to the gameplan. -

I post facts that you ignore. This is gonna be my last post in this thread because it's like trying to hammer a toothpick into a steel door. 09-10 37 wins 15 losses 2.26 GAA = excellent/elite 10-11 37 wins 17 losses 2.79 GAA = excellent 11-12 35 wins 17 losses 2.12 GAA = excellent/elite 12-13 Too early to determine. Howard = way above average. I'm done here.

Just have Hillbilly do the graphics again, they were sick last time. Wings need this win bad, get it done today boys. I really hope Dats returns.

I think what WhiteLightning said makes a lot of sense, it's going to be hard to judge once St. Louis retires and it's going to come down to who winds up being his linemate and how much chemistry they can come up with. I can see him getting 45+ for the next few years but who knows how much of a factor it will be when he loses his assist machine.

Not in today's NHL. Gretzky's record will go forever untouched because of how much hockey has changed since his dominance. I like Stamkos, he can seriously score but I don't see his career being anywhere comparable to Gretzky. He's going to fall off in production like a lot of the young stars have once defenses and goalies really begin to figure him out, and the same can be said for other players like Malkin.

Not much of a chocolate eater myself. The person below me had no idea there was a National Half-Priced Chocolate day until 55fan enlightened us.

I'd go for Getz for fantasy purposes regardless. Stacking too heavy with players on one team can be a god send or completely screw you. Perfect example, I got a -9 out of Brunner, Zetterberg, Kronwall in my fantasy league last night, completely killed my plus minus for the week.

For the same reason why you can't look at Quick and Lundquist's numbers this season and call them both average/below average because they are in "the middle of the pack" also. Lundy is right there with Howard statistically, he isn't average, Quick's numbers are worse than Howard and he's not average. Statistics aren't accurate this early in the season, plain and simple. This is the point i've been trying to stress here. You base a Goalie's skill on play, performance, and how well they can keep you in a game, not early season statistics. You are judging purely on stats and the stats for the most part this year lie. Howard gave up 4 last night with 36 shots against, on paper that's an average performance. Watching the actual game and seeing how many were not his fault and lapses of defense tells the story differently, just about any NHL goalie would have allowed 3-5 goals last night regardless of who it was. If the title of this thread was "Our Defense = Average" you wouldn't read a single word of debate coming from me.

This is my hunch. Hoping it's something minor and we'll see him back next game.
-
Yes this is called "the source" but it doesn't answer the question of how minimum games played factor into these numbers. 14 goalies in front of Howard have played 3 games or less, which pretty much puts your statistics on Howard in the null and void column. He is currently in company with these awful goaltenders going by what you are looking at on NHL.com; Miller, Lundqvist, Ward, Backstrom, and Fleury. Statistically he's ahead of Quick, Bryzgalov, Smith, and Halak respectively. So unless you are considering Yann Danis the best goalie in the league this year, who sits at number 1 on your list along with Chad Johnson and Darcy Krumper who also are on top of the list from your source, the numbers you offer are just flat out wrong. You can't really count one or two games played by backup goalies and throw Howard that far down the rankings, not quite how stats work in this argument.
-
You want an elite goalie like Miller who is playing worse this season and has a more complete team in front of him? You would hate him in a week anyway, maybe we can rotate goalies off waivers until one gets us a shutout and then cut him as soon as he allows one goal. The goalie shuffle has worked out brilliantly for Philly over the years that's exactly what we need, consistency be damned. Go take a look at elite goalie numbers this season like Quick, Miller, Lundqvist and compare those numbers to Howard and reassess the situation.
-
I really question your intentions to take a stab like this after a loss like we took tonight Axe, seriously.
-
It doesn't matter if it was Howard's fault or not, if we lose it's Howards fault according to the logic of this thread. Considering it was pointed out that Howard apparently gave up 5 the empty net goal was his fault also. White and Kronwall's horrible play was Howards fault also because I guess he didn't motivate them well enough before the game? Anything short of a 36 save shutout tonight was unacceptable, for shame Jimmy.
