Rafalski for Giguere? Yes or No?

Exactly what I was thinking, people think we need to address our goaltending situation because it's inconsistant and Giguere is the answer to that? I'm honestly shocked that this has gotten 8 votes for yes.. I'd consider Giguere for the backup role for MAYBE a late round pick.

    A Risk Worth Taking?

Someone dropped Marco Sturm, so I picked him up for Cheechoo instead. Kariya had a great first game, unfortunately it was against Detroit, but he may be worth hanging onto.

    A Risk Worth Taking?

When it comes to Fantasy Hockey, I tend to be a risk taker at the beginning of the season and draft a few guys that may be a huge bust or a big suprise. I think my biggest two risks this season are Jonathan Cheechoo and Paul Kariya. Cheechoo has proven that he can score, if he goes to a new team, could that respark the old Cheechoo that lit up the scorecard? Kariya is another one, coming off of a major injury, but if he stays healthy, could be put up another 60-70 point season? I usually trust my gut, and try to fill in bench spots with players like this opposed to the more popular risks. Who are you gambling on this season? My roster is below, it is a league that reflects PIM positively, currently with ten teams. I'm reasonably happy with the team I have, i'd like to unload a couple of defensemen but i'll work with what I have. Forwards Sidney Crosby Ryan Getzlaf Ilya Kovalchuk Vincent Lecavalier Derick Brassard David Bolland Erik Cole Jamie Langenbrunner Ryan Malone Defense Zdeno Chara Craig Rivet Marek Zidlicky Wade Redden (cant unload unfortunately) Erik Johnson Goaltenders Jonas Hiller Chris Mason Bench Paul Kariya Marian Hossa Jonathan Cheechoo Petr Sykora Lubomir Visnovsky Marty Turco

    First Game Impressions

I'd vote a little bit premature, the first few games of any new NHL season are always a little strange, and it takes some adjustment time. I'd be more in question about things like this after the first 6 or 7 games. A healthy Kariya is usually a dangerous Kariya, a player I think many people overlooked as an asset to St. Louis' team.

    A Risk Worth Taking?

No.. not a big fan either. I traded Seabrook and Nabokov for Chara and Hiller. I figured if Anaheim/Hiller aren't all that in the fantasy world this season, I can fall back on Turco and the potential of Dallas having a decent year. My weakest area is obviously defense, so I needed that one solid dman in Chara. I'm having second thoughts on Cheechoo, thinking about dropping him and picking up Leino from waivers. Something tells me Leino is going to produce more this season.

Crosby didn't shake our players hands?

Remember when Brodeur refused to shake Avery's hand after the Devils lost their series.. and Avery said "I guess ol fatso didn't want to shake my hand". That wasn't classless, that was funny. No one's taken anything away from Brodeur because of it.. or his stick chucking incident after the loss to the Canes.

    Marian Hossa, merged

I'd be comfortable with Leino, Helm, and Abdelkader in the starting lineup next season.. We seemed to play well with them all in the lineup when Pavel and Draper were out.

Get a new goalie- Get a good goal scorer

lmao @ cud & shud The price we pay for both goaltenders combined is sickening.. especially how well Osgood continues to play in the playoffs for us. I think he was one of the top 3 in consideration for the Conn Smythe after last season's cup, and he would have more than likely gotten it this year if we won game 7. Goaltending was hardly the problem.. you talk about the penguins blocking so many shots and the wings blocking so little and you still think the goalie is the problem? Let's get Ozzie blocking shots coming to the net, and if he misses, he can get to his skates, burn back to his crease, and make the save. Definitely not a defensive problem there.. it's all the goalie. ...

Martin Brodeur: Great Goalie, Questionable Morals

Thank you... no man is perfect. I could give a damn what any player does on his own time in his own home, I don't think it's our business honestly. Didn't Shanahan at one point sleep with a teammate's wife? Let's rail on him and question his morals while we're at it. I couldn't of said it better RedStorm.

    Westward, ho!

Send the Islanders to Phoenix and the Coyotes to the Island. Maybe a conference swap would bring better success to both organizations.

Who will get the start come playoffs?

    Cheveldae is making a comeback
  12. This doesn't even make any sense to me. In the offseason, coming off of a championship, and Osgood arguably playing the best hockey of his career, was a new goaltender even in question at that point? They got Hossa because we had no need for a new goaltender, and how soon some of us forget how PHENOMONAL Osgood was in the playoffs last year, I still don't think we need a new goaltender. Apparently the Red Wings organization agrees considering nothing was done at the deadline. People need to stop for a second, and remember how enormous our goaltending was last year, and why we won the cup. Osgood doesn't come in for Hasek and chances are we were out in the 1st round. There's no other realistic goaltender I want to go into the playoffs with this year but Ozzie. A goaltender doesn't go from golden to s*** brown like some of you think he has. I have no concerns, and I think the Hossa signing was the best thing they could have done for this team.

    Darth Gerber

Awesome, one of the better ones out there right now. Ozzie should paint a storm trooper on his.

    Who drew you in?

In 1989 my brother was home sick with Mono from school for about a month. It was during the regular season, and there was a hockey game on television, it was the Red Wings against another squad and he got hooked after one game. Neither of us were sports fans until this day, we had overlooked anything else. We checked the television listings, and looked up the next televised Wings game so I could watch it with him after he was blown away by the sport. The rest is pretty much history, i've been a Wings supporter and fan ever since for nearly 20 years now. Got my first jersey (Yzerman) which I still have today, had a number of opportunities to see Live wings games and meet some players along the way.

Players You're Glad Didn't Win It...

Sean Avery is about the only one i'd put up on my list. Sorry, but I think Grigorenko being mentioned was really low. He was highly overhyped on these boards all last year before the season started knowing what he's been through, and that his full recovery wasn't guaranteed. He tried out, and damn him for being in a bad car accident resulting in broken bones and surgery causing his play to decline and not make the squad. So he didn't make the team and didn't live up to the LGW expectations, but that shouldn't by any means make someone glad he didn't win the cup with us considering the circumstances of his situation. I think we all know what a car accident can do to a good hockey player, so don't blame the guy for it.

    Toronto Maple Leafs Captain

Oh yeah, the thread topic. I probably fall into the "I don't really care" category, give it to Tie Domi or something.

    Toronto Maple Leafs Captain

LOL WTF is that?!?! I regards to the comment about not being able to grow facial hair, I'm not too sure they are gonna have to worry about playoff beards for a while... besides Cindy grew out about 17 whiskers and they never stopped talking about him all year.

    Greatest Lines in Hockey History

One I can think of that I haven't seen mentioned yet... Penguins- Alexei Kovalev, Martin Straka, Robert Lang. Not that i'm disagreeing with Jagr, Lemieux, Francis, but this one was worth mentioning too.

5 ways to change the NHL

Gotta keep hockey in Atlanta. I just got a job at their practice facility in Gwinnett County, GA, so it will keep me employed for a while and keep me out of more preteen figure skaters running around the place. Besides, the thrashers have an AMAZING fan base, in fact, a few years ago I attended one of their practices just because free hockey is free hockey, and there was four fans in attendance, including myself. I did get a practice pick flipped to me and signed, one side Ilya and the other Hossa. At least that holds some kind of value. Seriously though, no one, and I mean NO ONE in this county or Altanta really seems to know anything about the thrashers, nor do they care about hockey. It's depressing, I miss the North. 90% of sports stores around here carry nothing for hockey, not even thrashers stuff. It's all Football, Baseball, and Basketball in that order.

    Wings still in Sundin Mix?

But Sammy's mom says he's an important part of the team, so he feels important regardless.

    XBox Live Gamertags

Matt was cool enough to add me today, so I thought i'd throw my gamertag out there too for anyone who would like to add me. MabusScarab (no space) I overplay Call of Duty 4, i'm a 55 gold cross but still play it often. I also play NHL2k8, Unreal Tournament 3, Battlefield: Bad Company, and the Guitar Hero/Rock Band games pretty often.

    Third Jersey Releases for 2009

I don't like the islanders current jerseys either. The fisherman logo in itself wasn't bad, but the jersey surrounding really was. I think if they redesigned the logo but kept the blue and orange, maybe even added a teal stripe it would be much better. The waves and the number design was pretty awful on the original fisherman jersey though. The Isles and the Lightning are in the running for the worst logos IMO.

    Third Jersey Releases for 2009

I want to see the fisherman that looks like he's selling fish sticks on the Islanders jersey again. It had a lovely array of teal and orange with waves on the bottom. Oh, and what about the big digital lookin coyote head on the green jersey with cactus lining the bottom? The NHL has seen some classics, it could be worse.

Top 10 Red Wings of the Last 15 years?

I'd love some of the crack that's going around that's got people putting Fedorov ahead of Yzerman on a list like this. That's just garbage IMO, I put Shanahan on the list ahead of Fedorov, we didn't win a cup until Shanahan joined the Wings. With an organization like this comes class, which Fedorov lacked too. That knocks back a few points. If this were looking a few years into the future, Fedorov would be #7 as both Dats and Hank are gonna be better players than he ever was. I remember a Fedorov that held out for more money, got his contract, and magically turned from great to above average. At least Lidstrom and Yzerman kept playing at the best of their ability once they got their contracts. 1) Yzerman 2) Lidstrom 3) Shanahan 4) Osgood 5) Fedorov 6) Datsyuk 7) Zetterberg 8) Larionov 9) Draper 10) Hasek
