Although this is never going to happen, Thronton is the LAST thing this team needs. Hes getting up there in age and he's a slow, playmaking center. Selling the farm for him would just be rediculous. Although some size would be nice, we don't need another playmaking center... I can just imagine the powerplay with 2 minutes of attack and no shots. Holland has even stated hes looking for D and a scoring winger. Again, I would be completely surprised if Thornton ever became a red wing before the age of 43.

Dan Boyle's rights traded to the Islanders…..
WingsallTheway replied to wings4thecup06's topic in General
Whats the point in signing a vet like Boyle? He just hinders our progress like signing any other grizzled vet would. This team needs to sign a defenceman that can stay for a few years, or a short term D-man who can effectively hold his own and isnt as slow as Lilja Just like adding Legwand (which did need to be done at the time; but thats another topic) Adding Boyle does not help make us a contender, so it is a waste of a roster and cap space -

Boyle is a shell of his former self. He was a great defenceman a few years ago but has found himself on the wrong side of 35; and just like most defenceman at this age, is not able to keep up with the new NHL. Sharks fans generally agree that his time has come as well, they are not upset at him leaving. If he isn't good enough for their team, he shouldnt be for ours either based on the amount of kids we need to start having playing time -
Schenn is brutal. Hes nothing more than a 6th defenceman; which we have 4 of

most underrated scumbag in the league. pass.

I dont understand what your trying to say Holland doesnt have a reputation for signing guys on the decline to bad contracts? Boyle would be OK as a wing, but not for any cap hit or term hed get here. As per youth, yes i know that. Just because I don't want Boyle here doesn't mean i dont think that we need vets on the team. We really need one on defence right now but I don't think it should come from Boyle who managed to be -8 on a pretty stacked sharks team

Val d'Or is a very young team, and their defence is mostly made up of 15-17 year olds...so its expected that theyll play shaky Mantha basically carries this team; although Gelinas has no problems contributing on the backend as well
-
I dont know much about him but I've heard that he may be done... Its possible that his play has dipped alot so holland will probably get him signed for a decade or so
-
Hes a good player, but vastly overrated... Hes been benched before for various reasons and is just as bad as bertuzzi for taking penalties. He is PURELY an offensive defenceman which is fine for us because we need one; However, at 8-10 mil? no.

or take kindl

This guy sucks big time as a leader and number 1. I think he would be a great third defenceman as he can hit and somewhat move the puck and be a small threat offensively. At a 5 mil cap hit i'd be interested without giving up too much. Maybe a defensive prospect and a 2nd.. And that wouldn't be enough so yeah lol

Personally I preferred Hertl's goal... Its kind of a battle of skill vs. determination Hertl's goal put biron into retirement haha

I think its been expected that Babs will be considering moving on next season. It has nothing to do with the team or the city, I think were lucky that he stuck around for as long as he did just because of his multiple statements regarding sticking around a certain team for too long. Its going to be a rough adjustment period when it does happen because his coaching is underrated. Although his lineups are beyond frustrating, his systems and strategies are unparalleled

I also agree with what you are saying; But i feel dats doesnt need a PWF, just someone who plays LIKE one (like you said i would say )... covering the puck along the boards and winning battles making precise passes. Thats why Hossa was a perfect fit for him and always would be Theres no doubt a Z-dats-Vanek line would score, but were on agreement that its not worth what he brings for the price/term. I also think that Z would need to be on this line in order for it to be productive. Franzen-D-Vanek Nyquist-D-Vanek Just don't think these combinations would work for me, although abby would be possible
-
I just added it to the conversation in a previous post, were all friends here. It wasn't a suggestion, just my opinion which i was clear to state Why do you think dats is always paired with players such as abby/bertuzzi/holmstrom? He doesn't like playing with skilled players; he likes big bodies that work hard and take away space along the boards... Vanek ? All Vanek brings to the table is his shot, which weve seen with Franzen isn't enough
-
The main factor is style of play... Sid is a FREAK along the boards which would be amazing with dats, plus he can set up/finish while not being a liability on defence. Hes also a power forward Kane is basically a dats 0.5 with less puck control/more agility so barring one of them wanting the puck more, I think they would be awesome together Vanek is soft, which does not bode well with datsyuk. He plays well with Z b/c he plays a PWF style

Gaborik in the winged wheel has been a dream of mine for like 6 years now.. I have a feeling it will happen eventually, but probably when hes 39 years old There are about three guys in the league that I feel would be unstoppable with Dats, and Gaborik is the only one that is actually feasible, with the others IMO being kane and crosby

NHL 15 Getting New Commentators: Doc and Edzo *sigh
WingsallTheway replied to rrasco's topic in Water Cooler
Im all for this.. As biased as they are in reality, that wont be the case for an NHL video game, doc's enthusiasm is going to be great for the game This is MUCH better than the pre-WW1 announcing of gary thorne thats been around since NHL1906 -
Florida willing to trade first overall pick.

Ekblad will be a good defenceman...but most likely not the caliber of the past few years -

This would probably be a good enough deal... and I wouldnt do it -
Anyone play EASHL? I'm looking for a club, preferably competative I can play any position comfortably

Ken Holland quote August 31st 2014: Ultimately, we kicked some tires but the price was too steep to bring in a free agent RH defenceman. We feel the return of a more experienced Quincey and Kindl solidifies our backend. The return of a healthy pav and Z gives us all we need and franzen tells me he has been resurged. I traded tatar and 2 conditional 1st round picks for the rights to Chris Chelios, but ultimately I did not kick the tires hard enough and we won't be adding his veteran leadership this season.

As good as he is, the luck he was getting to score that many goals was a sight in itself. Everything just caught up to him, hes not as good as that goal scoring streak says he is Having said that, I still think hes going to be a 50-60 point player next season.
