http://www.cbc.ca/sports/hockey/khl-threatened-by-russian-ruble-s-collapse-1.2877879 Looks like a number of teams will be folding next season. Theres a report in the article that a player hasn't even been paid since October. Looks like the crazy contracts handed out to players are coming back as a negative for the league.. Good news for the NHL?

True or False? This is a horrible thread

Chris Illitch speaks: Holland will stay - Blashill's future is up to Holland.
WingsallTheway replied to kickazz's topic in General
Mike Illitch most certainly would not have let Holland go in order to bring Yzerman back. I'm not sure Yzerman even wants to come back anyways, there has been no indication that is the case -
Trouba is not worth AA and a 1st, no way. Maybe in a couple years that trade makes sense but right now its risky for both teams and especially us. There is an extremely high chance we can just sign him when hes a UFA. AA + a couple thirds makes more sense but I think he should be almost untouchable right now. Wouldn't want to trade any of our assets for an upoming FA.

04/04 GDT : at Ottawa Senators 2, Red Wings 0

Blashill was quoted today as saying he needs to work on his defensive game and make more opportunities 5 on 5. He continuously throws him under the bus to reporters...not the best way to treat a young offensive player -

AA with 7 minutes again... barely any in the third. Can't stand Blashill 3 games left in the regular season and hes trying to make a point to a player who is a key part in the future. Makes no sense -

Pulks has more goals than Sheahan
-
For real though, has anyone made a waiver claim on us in the past 10 years that arent the Carolina Hurricanes?
-
Pulks just punched his ticket as a career AHLer. If I'm him I just go with it and rip up the AHL for the next 10 years lol

Official 2016 Detroit Red Wings Offseason Thread

Nielsen was one of the best players at the WCH, tons of fans and analysts are saying he has looked fantastic. I don't see how signing backes over nielsen would have been better, and even if it is, what makes you think he would have wanted to come to detroit? NYI fans were fuming that Nielsen left to come to Detroit. Also, backes has had 119,104, and 83 PIM the past 3 seasons. 25 minutes of those are for fighting. We don't need guys who can't play defence and take tripping/hooking penalties. We have enough with Larkin Ericsson and Abby -

Datsyuk Announcement to Officially Leave NHL

I'd still take Datsyuk for 40 games over Vanek for the next 5 seasons -

please keep these updates coming -
I was under the impression he was under contract for one more season but I probably just wasn't paying enough attention Good for him, he has potential to be a good backup. He stepped up this season but it seems like Coreau stepped up even more.

Jack Eichel is better than Dylan Larkin -

I'll have to disagree, but of course theres no way of knowing because its all speculation Larkin, prior to the end of the past season, had never played 82 games in a season before. NCAA teams play roughly 40 games a year, at a decreased level of intensity. Add the travel schedule and pressure of the NHL, and its pretty easy to get winded at the halfway point of the season. I fully expect Larkin to be more consistent this season. -

We can't really compare Larkin and AA right now because AA didn't play 80 games at the NHL level. (or at all) Larkin started off blowing everyone out of the water at the beginning of the season, but he started to slow down. This could have just as easily happened to AA and I think we are going to see exactly what kind of player he will become this upcoming season. I think people really under value the ability of players to play 80 games consistently Having said that, I'm just as excited about AA as I am with Larkin. I think we have two different types of players here, but AA is probably the closest thing we will get to Datsyuk for a long time -

Last time we were good we had what, 8-10 guys in the top 200 for fantasy? Lidstrom, Rafalski, Datsyuk, Zetterberg, Kronwall, Franzen, Hudler, Filpulla Just kind of puts it into perspective that changes need to be made to make us contenders again -

Why do you refuse to believe Holland would trade a prospect for a dwindling player to come play in Detroit and retire? -
Signed Glendening signs 4-year, $1.8m AAV extension
WingsallTheway replied to HockeytownRules19's topic in General
That is completely false Peak age is 26-30 both physically and mentally. Its more of a case-by-case basis but there is no way players are best at 23. If I have a good player at that age i get really excited because there is ample room for growth Especially in the case of a defensive player, the mental game is half the battle. You have to try things and gain experience to shut guys down, so Glendenning will get better -
Should any of #91, #13, #40, #30 be retired? Poll/Discussion
WingsallTheway replied to kickazz's topic in General
Havn't read much of the thread but ill put my opinion I don't think any of the jerseys should be retired because Datsyuk/Zetterberg werent able to win any cups by themselves. That was the Lidstrom era. Take Lids out of the equation and we don't win those 2 cups. If one of them were to have theyre jerseys retired, my choice would have been Dats as I think he was the better and more important player when compared to Z. However, signing a 2 year contract in the KHL will probably leave a sour taste in the mouths of the organization since its clear he had at least 2 years left of hockey in him and he still could have completed his goal of playing a year in the KHL, while fulfilling his Red Wings contract. He bailed on the team because we aren't good anymore, which I don't think any player ever being hung into the rafters would have done. Fedorov bailing on us to go play in ANA for less money instantly removes him from contention IMO. Osgood to me also has no business having his jersey hung up. He wasn't as good as Crawford in CHI and Crawford will not get his jersey hung in the United Center just because he won some cups with the team. Having said that, if Z is able to lead this team to at least a cup final before he retires, I think his jersey should go up. -
