I think as a rental at the deadline you'd be right about what would have to go the other way, but right now I think they'd want a legit forward. He is not worth a tats or gus, by any stretch. I was just saying thats who they'd probably be asking for since none of our other NHL ready forwards are really tradeable Smith + Jurco/Pulks seems to be the agreed upon value over on the CGY board.
-
This is true, but these are #1/2 Dmen and are being compared with guys who are supposed to be 3,4. To compare salaries of 3,4 dmen: Cam Fowler 4M Jack Johnson 4.2M Johnny Oduya 3.7M Dmitri Kulikov 4.5M Ryan Mcdonagh 4.7M Kevin Klein 3M Jon Carlson 4M I'd take these players over Quincey/Ericsson, with the exception maybe being Jack Johnson and Oduya Although these salaries do prove that mid pairing Dmen make 4-5M so if Quincey is a mid pairing guy he isn't overpaid. I'll agree there
-
What else would we be able to offer that Calgary wants? Kindl, Jurco, Smith, Sproul are none of those I would never do that trade but I don't know what else we could offer I was just trying to state why a trade likely won't happen. Wasn't very clear in original post I just know that CGY is looking to unload a Dman for a forward and we could use a Dman. A forward prospect would likely be the fairest price for both sides but i know CGY would want an NHL forward and we only have 2 (Gus, Tats) that are tradeable. Unless were talking Helm, but I doubt he gets it done alone

I'll jump in and agree +/- is relevant, but not as telling as some may think. You have to look at it a certain way For example, Larkin being +11 on our team says something. When OV was -30 and scored 50 goals, thats absolutely pathetic. If someone is -15 and theyre team is in last place and everyone else is around -15, its a team stat. If someone is a career +400 player, such as Lidstrom, it shows that his teams were always relevant and he played a huge part in that
-
The only trade I could see making sense for both teams right now would be something for Wideman in CGY. Would have to include an NHL forward such as Tats or Nyquist so I'd be supremely hesitant. A higher end prospect could potentially get it done I'm not sure if I buy the Byfuglien trade rumors
-
Thank you haha He would be a great bottom pairing dman but he gets completely exposed on either of the top 2 pairings. He doesnt generate offence and is extremely soft even with his size Our problem since Lids has left is that alot of our dmen are playing 1 pairing higher than they should be. It causes problems because they then get paid for playing more minutes than they should be. Kronwall - 1 Ericsson - 5/6 Green - 3 Dekeyser - 3 Smith - 5 Kindl - 6/7 Quincey 4 Its a bit better this year with the addition of Green since we can balance the pairings a bit more
-
I find it hard to believe 29 other NHL teams would welcome Ericsson at his caphit, even if he fit. If he is a top 4dman then my expectations of a top 4 NHL defenceman have to be drastically lowered
-
He shouldn't be a top 4 dman...that money could have went elsewhere to a legit top 4. I don't understand how its ok to pay him that much just because we were forced to give him top minutes. He plays top pairing minutes even though he plays like a 6th dman Quincey is overpaid, Kindl is here next season as well. Even Green is overpaid. Abby's contract will be bad in 3-4 years. #1,2 defenceman who make roughly the same as Quincey and Green: Roman Josi 4M OEL 5.5M Keith 5.5M Adam Larsson 4M Yandle 3M
-
He's our arguably worst defenceman and paid 4.25M... for the next 6 years.... Wouldn't say were in a good cap situation. The only reason were under the cap right now is because Franzen is on IR. Bottom line is alot of guys on our team are overpaid
-
So we have 18M tied into Ericcson, Kindl, Abby, and Quincey Who's making fun of Toew's and Kane's contracts now?
-
I wouldn't take a 35 year old Kovalchuck anyway. His game is built alot around speed and shooting the puck. Skills that go down as you get older. Guy has Semin/Afinogenov written all over him (Not saying you want him in Detroit or anything) I didn't even know about the 35+ rule
-
Kovalchuck is an NHL free agent. But, for any team to sign him all 30 teams in the NHL have to agree with it. Why would anyone do that, especially NJ? Kovalchuck isn't as dominant in the KHL, either (from what I've heard) Guy has to be the biggest floater in NHL history

Assuming he's under 19 (Since he's playing in junior) he isnt eligible for the AHL -

Smith and Ericsson need to get as far away from this team as humanly possible -
Smith shouldve just stopped and carried Z back to the bench and made him a steak dinner there Atleast he wouldn't have gotten a penalty
-
I know its not practical but I'm sad to see that the arena won't be 1 bowl like the joe. I've been to 5 NHL rinks and still the Joe is the only one where I was mesmerized by the arena, every seat is a good seat. I'm going to have to get to Detroit this year to experience it again before its too late
-
I love Helm but hes taken a step backwards physically. Its most likely due to the injuries but he used to be a wrecking ball out there. I'd like him on the team but its true, we can't take him back at his next salary so he's gotta go. Would be nice to try and get a return for him
-
I think Kopitar is our best shot at replacing Dats when he retires but I'm pretty sure he wants 10M. Thats way too much for him and someone will give it to him. Byfuglien would be the best option for winning it all next season
-
I'm going to have to jump in here and agree; my statement has nothing to do with the babs/quennevile discussion but, I'd say its no doubt easier to win a 6 game tournament with team Canada (with 4 other realistic threats) over a 110 game tournament with the Red wings and 29 other teams.
-
These are 2 teams in the league that i could actually see us dealing with and it comes at an opportune time for all 3 parties. Id say thats big news
-
He wouldn't win it otherwise lol so I'll take it. Its actually a distinct possibility now which is exciting
-
I'm totally fine with whats been happening. What's wrong with having two goalies rotating that are both capable of winning every night? It's only going to last for one season so enjoy it
