It most certainly is. But I feel as if we're finally in a position to where we could pull off a blockbuster like that without regretting it. We'd get two young players who are more ready to make an impact now, while Z and Pavel are still dominant, and they're still young enough to be key players in future too. It's admittedly a farfetched idea... but I can't help but fantasize about how great our lineup would look with those two in it.

I haven't read most of this thread; so I apologize if my post is off subject of the current conversation. But I feel as if a there is a perfect trade opportunity to fill the current needs of the team. Buffalo is in full rebuild mode as of right now. There have been rumors over the past two seasons about them being willing to trade Tyler Myers. They also acquired Chris Stewart in the Miller/Ott trade. I'm not positive about it, but from what I've gathered, they acquired him in the trade to be another trading chip. Tyler Myers is a young, giant, right-handed defenseman, whom is oozing with potential. He's obviously struggled since his rookie champaign; but he has shown that he can be a dominating shutdown defenseman if put in the right situation. I know a lot of people have issues with Stewart... but he can be the perfect power forward for our team. He's big, right-handed, young, scores, fights, intimidates, etc... He's been quite inconsistent over his career, so far; but he's young enough to where that can be fixed with the right coach. And we do have the right coach for that. Unfortunately it would probably take an astronomical return to get both of them from Buffalo. It would probably take AT LEAST our 1st round pick, one of Tatar/Jurco, one of Sproul/Ouellet, hopefully Franzen and/or Kindl, and either another good prospect or a good established veteran. That is a lot to give up for two players, but I think it would be well worth it. It would fill our two biggest needs now, and in the future. Luckily we finally have a great and deep prospect pipeline, to where we can realistically pull of a blockbuster like this without destroying our farm/future. This is my hypothetical version of what I'd love to see: 2014 1st Round Pick 2015 3rd Round Pick Thomas Tatar Xavier Ouellet Johan Franzen Jakub Kindl Joakim Andersson for Tyler Myers Chris Stewart 2014 2nd Round Pick (I'd do the trade even if they aren't willing to give us this pick) Thoughts? Too much to give? Not enough to receive? Horrible idea? Great idea that perfectly fills ours needs? ...... personally, I think it's the perfect two pieces that could be obtainable. The other perfect team to make a similar trade with if this wouldn't work is with Winnipeg... Bogosian and Kane. But I feel as if that would cost us more than the trade I proposed. Also, I apologize for making such a huge post! TL;DR Make a blockbuster with Buffalo that would give us Chris Stewart and Tyler Myers. Two young right-handed players whom are oozing with potential. In my opinion, it perfectly fills our two biggest needs.

CAPGEEK.COM USER GENERATED ROSTER My Custom Lineup FORWARDS Henrik Zetterberg ($6.083m) / Pavel Datsyuk ($6.700m) / Justin Abdelkader ($1.800m) Johan Franzen ($3.955m) / Vincent Lecavalier ($5.250m) / Damien Brunner ($2.800m) Gustav Nyquist ($1.700m) / Darren Helm ($2.125m) / Tomas Tatar ($0.840m) Drew Miller ($1.350m) / Joakim Andersson ($1.200m) / Jordin Tootoo ($1.900m) Patrick Eaves ($1.200m) / DEFENSEMEN Niklas Kronwall ($4.750m) / Jonathan Ericsson ($3.250m) Danny DeKeyser ($1.350m) / Zach Bogosian ($4.650m) Kyle Quincey ($3.775m) / Jakub Kindl ($2.400m) Brian Lashoff ($0.725m) / GOALTENDERS Jimmy Howard ($5.292m) Jonas Gustavsson ($1.500m) OTHER Buyout: Mikael Samuelsson ($0.000m) Buyout: Todd Bertuzzi ($0.000m) ------ CAPGEEK.COM TOTALS (follow @capgeek on Twitter) (these totals are compiled with the bonus cushion) SALARY CAP: $64,300,000; CAP PAYROLL: $64,594,545; BONUSES: $1,010,000 CAP SPACE (22-man roster): $715,455 This is the best and most realistic lineup I could come up with. The only part about it that might be unrealistic is making a trade for Bogosian. I figured something around Smith, a good pick, and one of our top 5 prospects might get it done if they're having issues signing him.
-
He started off a little shaky; but throughout the 2nd and 3rd I'd say he was one of the upper 50% of our defenseman on the ice tonight. I just feel like if he is utilized correctly he could become a solid 3-4 defenseman, who could average 30 points a year.
-
Just pointing out that Kindl has looked prettttttttyyyyy prettyyyy pretty good tonight.
-
I truly feel that Kindl has a lot of untapped potential. Sadly I have a feeling that he will be someone that we end up highly regretting getting rid of in the future while he flourishes on a different team.

Bouwmeester opinions? Potential trades? *merged*
ZigZagYourTorso replied to jroc86's topic in General
I really do hope that we swing a trade for Bouwmeester. He was fantastic in Florida, and would do great in our system. It's not his fault that Calgary over payed for him. It's painfully obvious that he does not fit well in Calgary's system. I would also love to see Mr. Holland try to work a trade for Volchenkov. He would be a perfect replacement for Stuart. Not too mention, that I think we could get both of them for reasonable prices. Kronwall - Bouwmeester Smith - Volchenkov Ericsson - Quincey That is not a bad set of defenseman at all. -
I think this would honestly be our best "realistic" option. Does anyone remember the rumor at the trade deadline two years ago? Hudler, Kindl, and a 1st for Bogosian. Supposedly Holland turned it down, stupid. He's a big right handed defenseman with the potential to be a top 15 defender in the league.
-
What is wrong with everyone on here?! Everyone keeps saying that we need a top-pairing defenseman/grit/toughness/someone who will fight, but when they see a trade that brings us one, they complain about losing Filppula?! I love Filppula, but if losing him meant bringing in Subban (or anyone of that caliber) I would jump for joy! We have people in our system coming up who can replace Filppula. We don't have anyone besides for Smith who can step up into a top pairing spot anytime soon, if ever. We can sign Semin or Doan and easily replace Filppulas production. Frustrating to say the least....
-
I know that the overwhelming consensus would be completely against this. But, does anyone think that maybe blowing up the team would be the best move? I'm not even sold on the idea my own self...but it's just something to discuss while we wait and see if anything happens to improve our team. Maybe doing what Philly did could help us, especially in the long run. Trading Zetterberg and/or Datsyuk for very high end younger players with superstar potential before they both decline to the point of having no value..... We could maybe fetch players like Oliver Ekman-Larson (who I believe will be the best defenseman in the league for a long time), Brayden Schenn, Evander Kane, Erik Gudbranson, Alex Burmistrov, Patrik Berglund, Bobby Ryan...ect... Trust me, my heart would shatter trading away either of them, regardless of the return. But, sometimes things like that can end up being a huge blessing is disguise....Any thoughts? Please don't kill me for bringing up the idea of it
-
I admit....mine it not very realistic.......just let me dream.....please? I'm just trying my best to be optimistic....and not think back to when we could have acquired Bogosian for Hudler, Kindl, and a 1st (Well, that was the rumor). I haven't lost faith in this offseason quite yet. But, it has been less than my high expectations expected.
-
I'm not exactly sure how I go to this. And, I'm sure it's completely impossible to make happen...but it's the best line-up I could come up with that seemed even the slightest bit plausible.....Also, sorry for the "lines" post.....blueadams is rubbing off on me.... FORWARDS Alexander Semin ($5.800m) / Pavel Datsyuk ($6.700m) / Shane Doan ($5.000m) Evander Kane ($5.000m) / Henrik Zetterberg ($6.083m) / Damien Brunner ($1.350m) Todd Bertuzzi ($2.075m) / Darren Helm ($2.125m) / Mikael Samuelsson ($3.000m) Drew Miller ($0.838m) / Justin Abdelkader ($1.500m) / Jordin Tootoo ($1.900m) Cory Emmerton ($0.533m) / Patrick Eaves ($1.200m) DEFENSEMEN Jay Bouwmeester ($6.680m) / Niklas Kronwall ($4.750m) Brendan Smith ($0.875m) / Zach Bogosian ($2.500m) Kyle Quincey ($4.000m) / Jonathan Ericsson ($3.250m) GOALTENDERS Jimmy Howard ($2.250m) Jonas Gustavsson ($1.500m) ------ SALARY CAP: $70,200,000; CAP PAYROLL: $68,909,167; BONUSES: $425,000 CAP SPACE (22-man roster): $1,290,833

Don't call me a psychic....but I think we're giong to end up seeing something very close this. FORWARDS Zach Parise ($7.000m) / Pavel Datsyuk ($6.700m) / Evander Kane ($5.000m) Henrik Zetterberg ($6.083m) / Jordan Staal ($4.000m) / Valtteri Filppula ($3.000m) Wayne Simmonds ($1.750m) / Martin Hanzal ($3.100m) / Dustin Brown ($3.175m) Travis Moen ($1.500m) / Paul Gaustad ($2.300m) / Cal Clutterbuck ($1.400m) DEFENSEMEN Shea Weber ($7.500m) / Oliver E.-Larsson ($1.750m) Niklas Kronwall ($4.750m) / Ryan McDonagh ($1.300m) Brendan Smith ($0.875m) / Luke Schenn ($3.600m) GOALTENDERS Jimmy Howard ($2.250m) Anders Lindback ($0.715m) Just a few simple trades/signings/offer sheet and we'll have a team that is built to get out of the first round.

Nope, I want Bouwmeester to skate around with the cup in his hands while wearing the winged wheel. I don't buy into superstitions or "curses".

FORWARDS Zach Parise ($6.750m) / Pavel Datsyuk ($6.700m) / Rick Nash ($7.800m) Valtteri Filppula ($3.000m) / Henrik Zetterberg ($6.083m) / Gustav Nyquist ($0.875m) Danny Cleary ($2.800m) / Justin Abdelkader ($1.250m) / Todd Bertuzzi ($2.075m) Drew Miller ($0.838m) / Darren Helm ($1.800m) / Patrick Eaves ($1.200m) Riley Sheahan ($0.900m) / DEFENSEMEN Jay Bouwmeester ($6.680m) / Niklas Kronwall ($4.750m) Ian White ($2.875m) / Luke Schenn ($3.600m) Brendan Smith ($0.875m) / Jonathan Ericsson ($3.250m) GOALTENDERS Jimmy Howard ($2.250m) Joey MacDonald ($0.550m) ------ CAPGEEK.COM TOTALS (follow @capgeek on Twitter) (these totals are compiled without the bonus cushion) SALARY CAP: $67,300,000; CAP PAYROLL: $66,900,833; BONUSES: $222,500 CAP SPACE (21-man roster): $399,167 This is my dream lineup. The possibility of it ever happening are 0.0000009% chances. And, the cap would have to go up by 3 million for it to be possible. And, this is assuming that Lidstrom/Holmstrom retire, and that Hudler/Stuart walk. But, I would trade Franzen, Kindl, Tatar, and 2013 1st for Rick Nash (very steep, but we'll have to overpay to ever get our divisional rivals franchise player...I'd even throw in an extra pick if necessary). I would then sign Parise, persuading him with the idea of playing on a line with Datsyuk and Nash. I would then trade the rights to Kyle Quincy and Teemu Pulkkinen for Jay Bouwmeester. I think he would flourish within our system. I would then proceed to trade Jakub Kindl and Ryan Sproul for Luke Schenn. I am well aware that this would be trading away a lot of our farm, but we are in major need of retooling this team now and not later. We would still be full of promising prospects (Sheahan, Jurco, Jarnkrok, Oullet, Trvdon, ect). I think this line-up would instantly bring us back to being the cup favorites. Our offense would be deadly, and our defense would be about as good as it is now but with a lot more youth and a whole of potential.
-
This is the best I could come up with..... Tatar, Nyquist, Emmerton, Mursak, Miller, and Eaves are all interchangeable on a plethora of spots in our lineup. I also wouldn't mind trading away some depth/picks to get a big power forward esque player for our top six. That would also allow us to move Cleary onto the third line. I realize snatching up the two biggest UFA's and adding Gleason is very unlikely...But, definitely possible. FORWARDS Zach Parise ($6.750m) / Pavel Datsyuk ($6.700m) / Johan Franzen ($3.954m) Valtteri Filppula ($3.000m) / Henrik Zetterberg ($6.083m) / Daniel Cleary ($2.800m) Justin Abdelkader ($1.200m) / Darren Helm ($2.250m) / Patrick Eaves ($1.200m) Tomas Tatar ($0.840m) / Drew Miller ($0.837m) / Jan Mursak ($0.550m) / Gustav Nyquist ($0.875m) / Cory Emmerton ($0.533m) DEFENSEMEN Niklas Kronwall ($4.750m) / Ryan Suter ($6.000m) Ian White ($2.875m) / Tim Gleason ($4.000m) Jonathan Ericsson ($3.250m) / Brendan Smith ($0.875m) Jakub Kindl ($0.883m) GOALTENDERS Jimmy Howard ($2.250m) / Antero Niittymaki ($1.500m) SALARY CAP: $64,300,000; CAP PAYROLL: $63,957,044; BONUSES: $247,500 CAP SPACE (23-man roster): $342,956

Haha good call on that one.
-
Well I have a few dream players haha.......not sure if any of them are very realistic. Horton, Lucic, Booth, Carter, Frolov, Clowe, Wheeler..........Maybe none of them are realistic....but let me dream. DOUGHTY IN 2011!!!
-
I would love if there was a realistic way to pry Horton out of FL. Anyone have any ideas on what it would take or how it could be done?
-
Well, I guess I'm the only Wings fan who likes Mike Green. Sometimes the best defesnse is a great offense........But seriously, I don't think he is as big of a liability as everyone says he is. People seem to just use that as an excuse to bash him.....or we've just been spoiled with watching Lidstrom every night.
