I agree. Franzen, obviously. Smith needs to be on the PP and would provide more value on either unit than the 4th forward. Nestrasil and Helm have no business on the PP. I'd rather have Kindl or Quincey even out there than either one of them. I agree about Weiss as well. He needs to be in the lineup and put into offensive situations. I almost feel like they should implement some sort of rule for forwards that are expected to score or regularly put into offensive situations, etc.... like the two forwards with the longest goalless droughts are the ones that sit. I don't even care if that means Cleary plays. Right now it doesn't seem like there is much urgency among guys that I think should feel somewhat urgent, and I think the fact that it is a given that Weiss and Cleary will sit is a contributing factor to that lack of urgency. Produce like you're supposed to or you'll sit in favor of Dan F-ing Cleary.

That game was lost because the Wings allowed the Flyers to stay in the game despite being dominated. This team has GOT to find a way to score more than two goals in a game on a consistent basis. Score more than two goals. Score more than two goals. Score more than two goals. Score more than two goals. Two goals is not enough to win hockey games. Every other possible complaint about this team pales in comparison. Eight games in - two goals scored or less in six. 75% of the time not scoring enough. Also, how long is it going to take before something significantly different is implemented on the power play? Chances are any change can't cause them to score fewer power play goals.

Well, that might depend on how 'outplaying' is determined. I'm willing to bet that the 2nd lines for the Wings' opponents thus far have scored a bit more than the one goal Detroit's 2nd line has scored. Tatar, Sheahan, and Jurco need to start putting some pucks in the net.

Kids should try and get some stats period. The veterans are the only ones scoring. Ok, the veterans and Nyquist.

They did play last night. And lost. To Philadelphia.

Still, there's something to read. 2014-15 Kindl so far is preferable to 2013-14 Kindl.

Yes. There is a problem with scoring, but I don't believe that the solution to that problem is to fix a line that isn't broken. The "3rd line" (Helm/Nestrasil/) is essentially worthless and the kid line needs to be broken up because it is not producing any offense. But, the "4th line" (Glendening/Miller/Andersson) is doing what it is supposed to do. I was not sold on Glendening or Andersson at the beginning of the season, but that line works and it eats up minutes against top lines. Those are hard defensive minutes that the top lines don't have to play, and should allow them to produce more offense. And, it's a small sample size (but it's all we have to go on for these lines), but I'm pretty sure the Glendening line has produced about as many goal as either of the 2nd or 3rd lines thus far this season. Break up the kid line and/or the worthless 3rd line. Leave the 4th line alone.

Are you pretending the Anaheim game didn't happen? Or that the officials actually called that penalty on Getzlaf at the end?

Interesting that you chose to go with Hossa there after Yzerman, Lidstrom, and Hasek... considering the plethora of other, seemingly more appropriate options you had to choose from.

OK, but that means nothing when it comes to the shootout, which is what he was referring to. I don't think anyone is clamoring for Abdelkader, Miller, or Andersson in the shootout either.... so why is comparing Nestrasil to them relevant as it relates to the shootout? -

This one actually started with Nestrasil looking like a 6 year old boy trying to score on his dad. -

Howard is playing better than the Detroit offense. Of course, I must concede that isn't saying much since the Detroit offense is PISS POOR. -

I think Detroit's forwards must get some kind of bonus for making an extra unnecessary pass instead of shooting the puck in situations when they might actually have a chance to score. -
I always have Matt's Wings calendar on my desktop. It's as much for my wife as for me because that is the main way she knows what nights not to make plans on.... as I often forget to tell her the Wings are playing.

I agree with most of that. However, the thing that I look for in officiating above all else is consistency. Stick parallel to the ice making contact with the hands is a penalty the way today's NHL is called. It is called a penalty when it happens the vast majority of the time. It was not called this time. Lack of consistency with that (non) call = poor officiating. I'd be fine with the non-call if that means they are going to stop calling that a hook across the board..... who thinks that is going to happen?..... I don't see any hands....

Are you hypothetically waiving Lashoff or something? Or do you just mean that we'd "have" Ouellet and Petry like we "have" Ouellet and Kindl now?
-
What 'few years' are you referring to? 2010-11 is the only one out of the past five seasons that the Red wings have really started off well.

Who throws a shoe? Honestly! -
It's a good thing Khan put that "T." In front of "Bertuzzi"....otherwise people might have thought he was talking about Todd instead of Tyler.

Wait, I've missed something here... why wouldn't he just go back to #11? Does this mean that Alfredsson is definitely back for another season?

Confused on the direction of this team going forward
barabbas16 replied to RainingBlood's topic in General
Again, though, the post said 'have' and 'is.' It did not say 'had' and 'was.' So, just for full clarification, please list the players on the Wings roster that you consider to be elite currently. -

I'm not sure how whether or not they were is relevant to the conversation. The post you challenged the usage of the word 'elite' in was specifically talking about the team currently and its players over the age of 31. Datsyuk, Zetterberg, and Kronwall were mentioned as being 'elite,' and you took issue with that word being used with Kronwall (but took no issue on it when it came to Datsyuk and Zetterberg). Am I to take your response of 'they were' to mean that they are not now, in your opinion, elite? If so, why did you question/challenge the use of the word 'elite' in association with Kronwall, but not Datsyuk or Zetterberg..... since you do not believe they are elite, currently?
