Babcock named Head Coach for Canada at Sochi Olympics

That's a shame. It will be a bummer to have all the media jumping down his throat when USA wins gold.

    Puck Over Glass

I like the rule. Not only has it removed delaying the game as a viable way to alleviate pressure, but it also rewards good forechecking teams, because defenders are more likely to accidentally shoot the puck over the glass when they're being heavily pressured.

    2013 Detroit Red Wings Eulogy

http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nhl-puck-daddy/eulogy-remembering-2012-13-detroit-red-wings-163745542.html Every post season Puck Daddy posts eulogies of playoff teams which are eliminated, written by fans of rival teams. Sometimes they're really lame, sometimes they're amazing. This year's Detroit Red Wings eulogy is amazing. At least I think so.

PS all the Jasons need to identify themselves in this thread. I'm a Calvin.

    Leaving a job.

I obviously don't know the full extent of what you are going though, but the first thought that popped into my mind was how great an opportunity this is to grow both as a valued member of an organization (ie developing and demonstrating skills that are highly valued in leadership roles) and as an individual. If you decide not to move on, I recommend looking at this situation as a challenge to be a team leader to the new folks and bring everyone together under the same set of ideas/rules/tricks/etc. It could end up being a way to make some cool new friends too. Again, I don't know the whole story. Maybe you've given that a shot and the situation is a lost cause, but I thought I'd pass on my thoughts just in case. Anyway, good luck!

Darren Helm - Career in Question?

Take it for what its worth: My friend works at a restaurant in Royal Oak that Darren Helm frequents, and he showed up tonight. Apparently Helm says his back is feeling better and next season will be great. I don't know how much of this is Helm telling a fan what he wants to hear, or whether it is sincere, but there was no visible pain or discomfort as he was moving around.

    Will Brunner be back?

I'm impressed with his desire to improve. He's steadily been getting better with defensive positioning and back checking, and has been getting stronger on the puck as well. I think he's an investment worth hanging onto. I hope he stays in Detroit.

    Hell Yah Wings

We lost experience and top-end skill over the past few years, but we have more than made up for that in pure hunger and heart. This is a young team with a lot to learn, but they play to the last ounce of their being, and that is something that the Wings have lacked for a while, now. Even Zetterberg and Datsyuk I think played with more passion this year than the past few years. I'm excited for the future.

    Jokes, know any?

awesome thread idea A business man was having an affair with his secretary, and one Saturday afternoon he was over at her place.Things got a little frisky and after the deed was done, both the man and the secretary fell asleep. A few hours later the man wakes up in a panic and instructs his secretary to go find his shoes, and rub them in the grass and dirt outside. Confused, she obliges, and the man puts his shoes on and drives home to meet his wife, who had been waiting for him in the living room. "Where have you been??" She asks accusingly. "Wife, I cannot lie to you. I've been having an affair with my secretary. We made love all afternoon." Looking down at his shoes, the wife responds "You filthy liar! You've been playing golf!"

Danny DeKeyser suffers broken thumb, out for playoffs

He can still skate with a broken thumb, so his legs and energy shouldn't be a problem, but I'm with you on the timing, stick handling, etc. Anyway, I don't know if we should read too much into that article. It just said Dekeyser is hoping to get back earlier than expected (which we technically already knew). There's nothing from a medical professional about him coming back sooner or healing quicker than expected.

    TSN Feature on Kronwall

I'm so happy to have been a part of that chant. That was the most fun I've had at a Wings' game, and the Joe was rocking all night long.

is our draft position number 17?

For playoff teams the draft number is organized by when you are eliminated from the post season. The Cup winner will be 30th, runner up will be 29th, Western Conference and Eastern Conference Champion runner ups will be 28th and 27th etc etc etc. edit: we are currently slated for 17th this summer

Do We Really Need a New Stadium?

I wouldn't count on it. Corporate names exist to help alleviate the cost of building a new arena. Using your own corporation kind of defeats the purpose, because you're still paying with your own money.

    Leaving a job.

I will be leaving my job at the end of the month to start medschool, and the people that I work with are all really awesome and we have developed into something of a family over the last year or so. We goof around at work, tease each other, help each other out, support each other in tough times, grab dinner and drinks, movies, etc etc. These friendships are worth hanging onto, so I will make it a point to keep in touch and meet with them whenever time permits. I can't help but think about how I'm going to miss seeing everyone on a daily basis, but at the same time, this job (while fun and stimulating) will not provide me with the opportunities that going to school will, so its in my best interest to leave. Besides, going to school (or in your case a new job) will be a new setting with a whole new group of people that you can befriend. I didn't know you had aspergers, Duck Guy!

Do We Really Need a New Stadium?

What better place to play a home game
  18. I was there too! I have never heard the Joe that electric in all my years of attending games. I wish I could watch the game again on TV to see how much of our screaming translated to FSN or NBC. I cannot speak at all right now with how hoarse I am. What a night!

Abdelkader suspended 2 games for hit on Lydman

I agree. Weber should have been removed from that series for at least two games, perhaps more. But we aren't discussing Weber's actions from last year, we are discussing Abby's hit from last game, and that one they got right. The Wings aren't given a free pass because the league fell on its face with the decision to not suspend Weber last year. Everyone on the ice still needs to be accountable of how they play.

Abdelkader suspended 2 games for hit on Lydman

They got the call right. I don't think it was a malicious hit, but it was careless, and the league is really trying to remove contact to the head from the game. They let this one slide and that message goes out the window.

Brian Lashoff to take Dekeyser's place in game 3

I think Lashoff will replace what we lost in DeKeyser the best. Both are shut-down defensman who can block a shot, with smart outlet passes to boot. The youth movement was coming sooner or later. Why not embrace it fully?

Attended Griffins vs. Aeros game last night.

please do! The only times I've seen Jurco play live he didn't impress. I'd like too see what this kid can do when he's playing well.
