What about Toronto? They would jump from wild card spot to division spot and wild card would then go to Philly (or Carolina or Florida or etc).

One thing I noticed at last night's game was that defensively, our team tends to overload to the strong side of the ice. When the puck eventually gets to our defensman who goes behind the net and shoots it up the weakside to establish the breakout/relieve pressure, we have no forward in position to get to the puck. This leads to in-zone turnovers, icings, or out-of-zone turnovers with the puck eventually working its way back to our end. It wasn't every time, sometimes our D had the time and space to look for the open man or let the play develop, but under pressure it was a recurring theme. I don't like the heavy defensive pressure, particularly because our team isn't technically pressuring heavy anyway, just applying a s***ty overzealous swarm defense without actually doing anything productive. We have speedy guys, I think they can handle spreading out even just a little if it will promote more breakouts with puck possession.

Ive more or less mentioned this before and I know some people will disagree but if I could choose a roster to take to the playoffs I have more optimism about the skill on this year's roster compared to the one that took Tampa Bay to game 7 a couple years ago. They've severely underperformed and if Blashill could somehow manage to maximize this team's ability I think they could do some damage in the postseason. I'm not all that optimistic it'll happen, but I absolutely think the talent is there.

The people who progress our society are the ones who aren't afraid to make mistakes. Thus far Blash has been an underwhelming coach, and if he's electing to continue to coach "safe and traditional defensive hockey" he's gonna get burned, because there are many coaches out there obviously better than him at that strategy and several of them have better pieces to play with to boot. Blash needs to pave his own way here and as mentioned above I think that means taking chances other coaches might not be comfortable with to optimize our lineup. At worst we continue losing and still miss the playoffs. At best Blashill redefines this team and his role on it and this roster starts playing to its full potential.

I think he's just making a point that nobody is perfect in their job everyday. Taken in context of what he's discussing it seems more likely.

My classmate from Boston wanted to go to this game so we ended up going on kinda a last minute thing. What a rollercoaster! It was even better sitting next to my good friend The Bruins Fan throughout the whole game. Prob my last game at the Joe.

Nice! I only saw the last half of the third but the Wings looked like they were making chances and playing with confidence. I don't know if that was the story the whole game, but I'll never turn down a shutout victory.

A while back I had suggested moving the water cooler up toward the top of the forum menu instead of at the bottom to encourage more people to check it out. It was met with resistance from Matt and the mods back then but I still feel it would be a good idea. Having just the water cooler up at the top of the forum wouldn't hamper anyone wanting to get to the general hockey discussion thread because that will also be up near the top and visible immediately upon coming into this site, so it's not like there would even be any scrolling required.
