    Operation: Curly Fries

Arby's officially changed it so you have the option of curly fries or the sandwich. Mickey said so last night.

Too bad these teams won't be meeting each other in the Finals.

    Bert's role with the team

I just saw this quote from Babs over at nhl.com: "In my opinion, Todd Bertuzzi is one of these guys that everyone says wasn't great defensively, but he's very good defensively," Babcock said. "He played head-to-head against Nash for two games and I thought did an unbelievable job. There's lots of guys playing, but that’s one example of commitment to play away from the puck." I honestly haven't been paying attention, but has Bert been paired up against the other team's top players as a shut-down forward ala Dats or Z any other time this season? I'm of the mindset that Babs is looking ahead to playoff time when historically we've had either Datsyuk or Zetterberg essentially shadowing other team's top players. If he's giving Bertuzzi one-on-one time with players like Nash (maybe some other stars in the future?) it may allow Dats and Z to remain on the same line when the time comes to verse Joe Thornton or Crosby or Ovechkin in the playoffs. Then again, that whole line has really been hauling ass to cover our zone.

11/30 GDT: Red Wings 5 at Sharks 3

Crap, gang. I accidentally came in here and the Wings are 0-4 when I see the GDT... What should I do now? Also, nothing against you personally Hankie (seriously), but the Core LGW-meme is starting to make me embarrassed to represent this forum. I wish it would die.

    If Modano's career is over...

Hudler plays like he is capable of playing. That's how you replace him.
  9. The Jack Adams is one of the most meaningless (or veiled meaning at least) awards. Consider for a moment that Bowman only won it twice. Just think about that for a second.

    LGW's favorite player slewfoots Callahan

This might get ugly. The last game between the Pens and the Rangers had some questionable reffing that resulted in Tortorella calling up Campbell and some other nhl cronnies to file a complaint.

    Tomas Tatar

Tatar is a really interesting player. When I watch him I don't see an elite stick-handler like Datsyuk or a sniper. He's not big enough to be a power-forward and isn't as strong on the puck as many other players. He isn't an elite play-maker as far as I can tell. In fact, from what I've seen he's average to above-average on just about every category except he seems to see the ice incredibly, incredibly well. He's playing the game two steps ahead of everyone else and it results in him in front of the net, wide open for that split second when the puck is there, too. By the time anyone can react its already in the back of the net. I'm very optimistic for his potential because that kind of ability is the most difficult to teach. You either see the game or you don't, and this kid sees the game as good as the best of them. His puck-handling, shooting, power, etc can all be improved to a degree as the game he plays becomes more difficult and that's why this kid might be top-3 in a couple years.

Gorgeous hip check by Dan Hamhuis

Konstantinov used to be an absolute beast with hip checks. That hit reminded me of him.

These next two games should be especially entertaining, what with 1st place being on the line and all.

    Schedule

December is ghastly. I think we have something like 4 back-to-backs in December and we won't be versing bottom-feeders either.

    Nobody at the Joe

Remember the days when the economy was flourishing, the Wings were the new elite team on the block after going decades without any success, and the locals had plenty of time and money on their hands? Boy those days were nice.

    The Grind Line

I've been optimistic that Helm, Abby, and Eaves (maybe?) would be able to take over the reigns pretty well, but looking at these pics reminds me of just how much of a force they were in their heyday.

Even though the hockey world had the misfortune of a couple rehearsals of this day, I don't think it eases the transition any.

Why is St. Louis doing so good?

I didn't realize how pretentious our community was. Last night I would say that for the most part the Wings looked like clueless children out there. You guys are educated enough to know that the score was incredibly deceiving. If Halak played 60 minutes instead of 50, or if Howard looked human for some of those Blues opportunities, the Wings very well could have walked out of that game with 0 points and deservingly so.

    Interesting Stat

The Wings haven't played a whole lot of playoff-calibre teams just yet. I think the rest of the season will be a bit more of a dogfight than the first 10 or so games indicate.

    Stanley Cup Droughts

I always find it hard to believe that the Blues have never won a Cup. They have donned some pretty legit teams over the years.

    Jonathan Ericsson Watch Thread

I have no clue either. I would like to see: Lidstrom Kronwall Stuart Eriksson Rafalski Salei And give them all about 20 min of ice time. I want Kronwall to learn as much as he can from Lids now because it seems like hes going to be top 2 when Lids and/or Raffi retires. It'll be nice if he can compliment his play with some Lidstromesque abilities. Eriksson has really been playing well the past couple weeks and a good deal of that has been due to the fact that he's using his size for once. I think he can really learn a lot paired up with Stuart, and with Stuey as more of a stay-at-home defensman it allows Eriksson to be more offensive. The same is why I think Raffi and Salei will look nice together(at least on paper).
