This is an unusual thing to come to a forum to request.

So does anyone else hope Lidstrom comes back next season?

If he can keep playing like he is now. The guy still has it. -
All I'm gonna say is the Wings better come out of the gate inspired for this one.

Its crazy watching him out there. Its like there are brief moments when he's like "I know the objective of this game is to score goals, but first I'm going to see what I can do to make this guy as humiliated as possible." *Deke deke deke deke deke deke deke* "Oh look, Zetterberg's open, maybe I should pass it."

Not even just a little bit?

"We respected the other guys a lot more than they do now."

Mickey Redmond has been saying this for a while, too. -

TBs special teams are going to kill them in this game.

He takes Selkes, Lady Bings, and Stanley Cups. But seriously, if you're going to scoff off a player's tendency to get injured it makes it that much easier for me to scoff off your prorated stats. Hell, when it came to skill Eric Lindros was one of the greatest, but he won't even be inducted to the HOF due to a certain consequence of how he played.

If you continued you'd notice Eva is willing to pull up stats from previous years (despite this little quote: 'Because it's a "Who is better RIGHT NOW"') when he can find data to support his argument. I've noticed that the crux of most of your arguments, Eva, is prorated stats. See: data that doesn't actually exist. Anyway, up until last season when the team was decimated with injuries and fatigue Datsyuk has continuously ended the season with more points than Zetterberg. For what its worth Pav's +/- is usually higher and he had twice as many hits last year as Zetterberg (yahoo sports just started keeping track of the stat, there might be more data from previous years at nhl.com or something). Dats not only beats Z in takeaways but he usually beats the entire league, and by a sickeningly wide margin. Zetterberg has also never registered an 80 game season in his 7 years of being here. If you want to look at what defines a complete player, you can't ignore the fact that some players regularly sit games out due to injuries, while others either through the way the see the ice or play the game continue to avoid missing ice time. Granted, Z is only sitting out about 4 more games/season than Dats, but its worth considering when talking about what defines a "complete player"

I had a nightmare about the Blues winning the Cup this year. So far I'd say mine is more realistic.

This thread is getting loony.

The Central has been more competitive than most people realize these past two or three seasons. I remember a couple years ago late in the regular season looking at the standings and being shocked that all five teams still had a strong chance of making the post-season. Its tough to say which division is toughest, especially this early, but I've always considered the Central as being up there for the past two seasons or so. Edit: I just looked it up and 2008-2009 four of the five Central teams made the playoffs with Nashville being three points out. Last year St. Louis and Columbus both missed the playoffs. St. Louis was 5 points out and Columbus was a bottom feeder.

I'm looking at these replays and I'm seeing contact with the shoulder, but it looks like the brunt of the hit is absorbed in the head.
-
Hmm lets see. East/West hit, not North/South. Check. Contact made directly with head. Check. What's the confusion? He's also gonna get a suspension similar to Doan's. Bank on it.

I think football players on average have harder hits, because it seems that they have more hits where players collide head-on into each other. Those type of hits where two players are traveling into each other on the same axis result in the summation of their vectors, in this case momentum. Most of hockey's hits aren't into each other on the same axis, but rather perpendicular (like checking into the boards) or they are on the same axis but traveling in the same direction, so only the difference in vectors is taken into consideration. However, the open ice hits where two players collide occurs at a faster velocity than football (feet will never compete with skates when talking about speed) so the momentum and thus the hit of the player will carry more force.

I mentioned this a few pages back but we currently have 5 players that are shooting at least a point per game right now. Franzen, Datsyuk, Zetterberg, Bertuzzi, and Lidstrom.

I said this in the GDT but Ken and Mickey hit a pretty nice harmony at the end of their "scores!" and "bingo!"

I'm willing to give Modano some more time to gel with the third line. The guy has played his entire 20+ year career with one organization, and while personnel and coaches have shuffled in and out of the Northstars/Stars, this is the first time in his pro history that he's adjusting to so much change over such an immediate period of time. I'm talking team, teammmates, environment, coach, offensive and defensive strategies, etc etc etc. He's still not playing Red Wing hockey quite yet and I don't know if benching him or putting him on different lines will fix that any quicker than keeping him with Huds (who's looking a lot like Jason Willaims lately, actually) and Cleary. I expect the second half of this season to be pretty productive for Mikey.

I just want to point out that the Wings now have five players that are performing at at least a point per game right now.

Finally the offseason is over. ...wait a minute
