    Babcock to Change Defense Pairings

What is your definition of bottom pair? Is it someone who plays against other teams' worst offensive lines? If so, then I agree: Kronwall isn't getting paid to play on the bottom pair. If your definition refers to defensmen who will play 8-10 minutes tops in a game, then I have to bring up that Babs is insisting that all defensmen average out to about 20 min per game this year so young guys can develop and old guys won't get worn out come playoff time.

    Ken Hitchcock coming to Camp

I lolled at this. “Hitch phoned me and said, ‘I want to learn, can I come to your camp?,'” Babcock said. “I phoned Kenny Holland and said, ‘He wants to learn, but I want to learn, too -- can he come to our camp?’ But seriously. What are the chances that he takes a coaching spot? I don't want to get my hopes up too much.

    Babcock to Change Defense Pairings

yes! I've been waiting for this for a while! Now the line-up from top to bottom is exactly how it should be. edit: a more substantial link here: http://www.freep.com/article/20100917/SPORTS05/100917044/1053/Red-Wings-coach-plans-new-defensive-pairings

Who do and did you hate more?

The Ducks. Even though Pronger left, his stench still follows that team around. Perry Getzlaf and Ryan are frustrating to play against. They're so skilled but they're also agitators, which makes it twice as bad. First they beat you up then they score on you. The rivalry with the Pens is that of skill. The rivalries with the Ducks and Avs both had a very large element of physicality in addition to skill. If the Pens started sending our guys to the IR with concussions and broken faces, perhaps the rivalry for me will reach Ducks level. The magnitude of the Wings/Avs rivalry will not be reached again any time soon, especially with the disintegration of enforcers and power forwards in the league.

NHL testing new rules and rink modifications

I would love to see the intent to blow rule abolished. The play is alive regardless of whether the puck can be seen until the whistle blows. I don't see why refs should be immune to needing athletic ability to participate in this sport. Its a fast game, so you should be able to blow whistles fast. I would also love a challenge rule of some sort, although its easier implemented in football because they have three timeouts that they can sacrifice. In the NHL there is only one. It would make for some interesting scenarios and bring the coaches' effect more directly into the game with a rule where coaches sacrifice their 1 timeout if a challenge is not successful. There could be some pretty intense moments.

    Lilja Contemplates Training Camp Invitation

If Holland can somehow land this guy in the Griffins it would be monumental for the development of our prospects down there (not to mention the best "depth" signing all year).

The way I see it is if you feel the need to act out on your right to go to some other forum and be a jerk, then the mods here are more than welcome to act out on their rights to be jerks to you and ban you.

Devils fined and have 2 draft picks taken

Is it possible for the Devils to argue this punishment? This seems in no way fair to them. They certainly aren't the first team to circumvent and the NHL pretty much agrees with that assessment based on their looking into Luongo's and Hossa's contracts, as well as the fact that the amended rules go against multiple players' contracts throughout the league (which are being grandfathered in, apparently). If punishments are going out, why only the Devils? If you can't rightfully justify punishing all teams that circumvented the cap (which you can't) then don't punish anyone.

    Next Generation D

Doughty is my favorite non-Wing player and I would go insane if we signed him. Unfortunately LA has treated him well and they're starting to become a contender with him as the centerpiece. It would be difficult to walk away from that.

    Official Detroit Lions thread

I don't expect that many wins out of them, but I do expect this season to be a first in a string of consistently more successful years until the Lions eventually make the playoffs. I just finished reading an interview that Album had with Jim Schwartz. He started talking about Matt Stafford and this is what he said: "Matt is extremely self-aware. Matt would be a very good coach because he right away knows when he's screwed up and when things are outside of his control. In Denver (in the exhibition game), when he took a sack ... second down and goal, I think, from the 9. If it's incomplete, we got third and goal from the 9 -- we still got a chance to score a touchdown. When he takes the sack, it's like third and goal from the 14, and you're not converting. It's probably a field goal. So by taking that sack, that was basically a four-point play. And he came off, and I said, "You've gotta burn that ball. You've gotta throw it away." And he said, "Yeah, I know, but the guy was on my hip and I was afraid that if I switched hands to throw it that I might lose it. And I didn't wanna lose the field goal. So he was aware of everything. He knew right away." I was pretty impressed, and it further supports the notion that the Lions have begun to build a legitimate team. There are still parts missing, but its definitely not the team that walked onto the field 2 years ago, 5 years ago, etc.

Letsgopens has a good group of fans. I post there occasionally and haven't had any beef with anybody, nor has anyone taken any beef with me. Its obvious when someone comes to another forum to troll, despite how good they think they're cloaking themselves. The ones who are genuinely interested in talking hockey (ie Duckguy) are equally obvious. Just be respectful if you go somewhere.
