Easy targets aren't fun to hit.

I like the moves the Pens have made on D, but they still need to find a winger for Crosby, imo. I kind of want Malkin to move up to the Wing on the first line and let Staal center the second line with Dupuis and Cooke. I'm not sure the Pens depth will allow that, though. The biggest weakness for both the Wings and the Pens I believe is in net. Howard is going into the cursed sophomore year and has perhaps the worst rebound control for a 1 goalie in the league, whereas with MAF you never know who's going to be in net: a legit 1 goalie, or someone who will let in 3 fluky goals. Both teams are probably among the favorites to get to the finals, but the favorites rarely end up getting that far. By the way, have you been following the Chicago exodus this summer? I'm not sure how to interpret "I don't see the Wings pulling through this year, because they won't be able to get past Chicago. " or "Pens vs Hawks". Last time I checked Chicago packed up and moved to Atlanta.

Vancouver over Bruins, 4-1 Feel free to resurrect this one in June.

That's so cool. http://www.pucker-up.ca/

If you could create a roster using your all-time favorite Wings players (see: not best players, but your personal favorite), what would the team look like? Shanahan Yzerman Franzen Datsyuk Zetterberg Holmstrom Larionov Draper McCarty Downey Helm Probert Lidstrom Konstantinov Fisher Kronwall Murphy Chelios Hasek Osgood I think this is what my roster would look like, but I'd like to see everyone's. My third line looks just as awkward as my first line looks gorgeous.

Man it still looks weird not seeing him wearing the Star (or the Ovaries). Not that I mind him being here or anything.
-
Bob Rouse. The Nick Lidstrom of Nick Lidstrom.
-
Because Yzerman left the Wings for a position that he would not find here. Now that he has his position (and now brain-child Lightning) in Tampa, why leave it?
-
If you end up with some statistical data to support a "Lidstrom effect", I'd be really interested to see the results.

In the end it all comes down to respecting the opponent. Like many hockey fans, I would hate to see all these consequential rules, fines, and suspensions be put into place to limit the parameters of a hit, but if you're going to play in a league that allows a variety of physical contact you should at least be smart about it and remember that hitting is a way of removing the player from the puck or as a way of intimidating the opponent, not a way to try to deliberately injure the opponent or end his career. If his head is down or he's admiring a pass, give it to him. Just don't target the head.

That's what made the rivalry extra special. The Wings and Avs were the two best teams in the league for the 6 or so years when the rivalry occurred. In addition to the blood that was lost between the two teams, the opponent was so monumental that the victors often earned Stanley Cups in addition to bragging rights. I've asked this a couple times on the threads but would you be willing to sacrifice experiencing the rivalry with Colorado for an extra Stanley Cup and perhaps an arguable defense of a dynasty? As you said, the Wings and Avs were the best teams in the league. These two teams won the Cup five out of seven years in the late 90s. If you were to eliminate the Avs from the league (and with it the rivalry) the Wings likely win at least one extra Stanley Cup. But is it worth it?

Ok so when is the cut-off for roster moves that affect 2011 and not 2010? Is that opening day of free agency?
-
When's the earliest a team can place somebody on waivers?
-
"The goal counts! The goal counts!" That play may very well have been the Stanley Cup winner that year.

This thread was secretly a way to see how many posts it would take for someone to put Bob Rouse into their lineup. Lazerbeam wins

In fairness to Ellis, Wyshynski didn't get an 18% paycut
-
I never really liked Fedorov (and I swear I felt this way before the whole contract fiasco), otherwise he would be where Franzen is I think.
-
Try taking a 98.75% pay cut and see what its like living life earning the national median.

That is by far my favorite interview that any sports' person has ever done. Don't forget the one when he was pretending to ride a stationary also.
-
Its certainly good enough for the East. edit: I really think Crosby and Malkin should be on the same line, and Staal should center the second line.

I guess I never really thought about the stereotypes of women and hockey. My mom was the one to formally introduced me to the sport, and since then I've been surrounded by both men and women who genuinely love the game. There are certainly plenty of hockey-moms, puck bunnies, and supportive girlfriends/spouses, but I'm comfortable saying there are definitely more women out there who care about the sport that they're watching, and not so much the players that are in it.

I like that the color scheme matches the Wings': red, grey/black tones, and whites. I don't like the overall design very much, though. The old English D on the front is nice.

I have the shakes. Friday, August 13th, 2010 How appropriate that today of all days is when I finally crack. Its been months since I've last witnessed professional hockey, and it was a bittersweet moment when I observed an anticlimactic ending between two of my most hated opponents. It was an exciting series, but my heart had died in round two with the Wings. And that marked the beginning. I thought my rations of beer-leagues and you-tube videos were large enough to get me through the desolate summer months, but disaster stuck. I was so foolish not to think ahead. How did I not realize that three weekend camping trips were planned all overlapping my beer-league games? I've gone close to a month without playing a game, and now its taken all my effort to keep from collecting the ice from the fridge just to feel its cool touch. I can only wonder about my beer-league companions. We lost contact after my first expedition. I don't even know if they're alive anymore, or what condition their ration stockpile was in. I don't know if I will be alive either, come our next game this Saturday night. The youtube videos and hockey stories have all been used up. I've survived this long on drawing up elaborate hockey plays on a pile of post-it notes at my employment shelter, but how many plays are left to discover?? There's nothing left of any substance to feed me. I pray to the hockey gods for the strength to endue this unholy heatwave for just another 48 hours. That's all I need. I rest my remaining hopes in this note that someone, anybody can find me and share their rations with me, but my body believes it to be too late. I'm withering away, starved to the bone. To whomever may find this: tell my family I love them, should I not make it to Saturday. Godspeed. Echolalia

I very well may be incorrect, but I know that Matt and co. had planned some Invasion of the Wingsfans to Florida trip sometime around February or March or something. There may be a plethora of us down there when you fly in. It might be worth investigating, but to answer your question: I have only seen the Wings play at the Joe.

Thanks folks, actually the UP and Western Mi would be the part that interests me the most. I just love hearing this guy tell stories.
