Heck, with Huds back in the lineup, we could get rid of Datsyuk and Franzen and still be overwhelming favorites to win the Cup. What's he good for these days, 300 points? 350 if he plays a full 82, I bet.

TSN: Forsberg Almost Joined the Flyers at the Trade Deadline
Echolalia replied to a topic in General
Dammit Forsberg! You piss me off when you sign in the offseason after relaxing on an injury for the year, and the one time that I would have approved of you signing with another team to play in the playoffs, you decide "nah." -
I didn't overlook it, although we have differing opinions on it. I feel like a delayed penalty is essentially a powerplay in that its the only time you can safely pull your goalie, thus you have a legitimate man advantage. If you score on that play, it is a result of having the extra attacker (unless they score just as or just after the penalty is observed). If they were to continue onto the actual powerplay after scoring, I feel like the crimes in many cases wouldn't justify the punishment. We're now looking at the possibility of scoring two goals on a single hooking or tripping call. This system also punishes those teams who receive powerplays without the opportunity of a delayed penalty chance (the other team has possession when the play is called, there is a scrum along the boards where everyone is batting at the puck, etc). I also don't like the idea of selective opportunities to score two goals instead of one based on whether you had the puck at the moment the penalty was observed.

No thanks to those. The faceoff dot icing rule is just really awkward. Icing in itself is already confusing to non-experienced fans. As for icing on PK, that would create a lot of stoppages in play and I don't think the fans would really want to dull down something as potentially exciting as a powerplay by throwing three or four icings into a two minute period. I don't know if I agree with the powerplay even if you score with the extra attacker rule either. What bothers me is that besides for the icing rule (which some may or may not claim needs to be change), none of these rules that are being tweaked seem like they even have issues that require tweaking. Why not keep the game the way it is?

I think he'll be getting a pay raise that the Wings won't be able to afford.

what a weak goal to let USA back in it.

Welp, we got Leino for nothing, and we traded him for nothing. I guess we broke even.

The whole Chicago chanting "Detroit Sucks" all the time makes me think of the "rivalry" between brothers. The older one is obviously better and has done more with his life, and the smaller one is incredibly envious and tries to be like him. Meanwhile the younger brother thinks they're rivals and insults his brother behind his back all the time. Of course the older brother has no clue that they're supposed to be rivals, and just goes on with his life.

Nothing will prepare you for Red Wing hockey like throwing a bunch of undersized players with no gritty support into a North American rink full of goons wearing the opposite jersey!

http://detnews.com/article/20100610/METRO/6100379/Palace--Ex-staffers-stole-trade-secrets Apparently when Wilson jumped ship and joined Illitch's team he enticed a few Palace employees to tag along. I guess they also brought some confidential business-sensitive stuff along with them, breaching the Trade Secret Act. There's a small paragraph in there, though, about Wilson inquiring on behalf of Olympia of buying PSE and the Pistons. Also: I guess this isn't really hockey related, sorry if it must be moved to the 'Cooler.

I think the Wings and Sharks will be the WC safe choices. I also think LA will take a step forward and really give teams problems. In the East, the Pens and Caps are the dominant teams. I expect New Jersey to stay near the top of the standings as well, especially if they can retain Kovy. But with a couple months of trading and signings, followed by eight months of physical, grueling hockey, who knows where everyone will end up.

Can someone photoshop Langface, Crosbyface, and Doanface into a picture where they're all screaming at Godzilla or something? Or better yet: photoshop their faces onto three different Godzillas wreaking havoc on a city.

Would a real gritty fighter help or hurt this team?
Echolalia replied to babygorilla's topic in General
It might be hopeless, but I think this is the most cordial enforcer debate that LGW has ever seen. -
Holland said that they are leaning towards drafting a forward, preferably with some scoring touch, with their first round pick. http://www.prosportsdaily.com/comments/ken-holland-is-leaning-toward-drafting-a-forward-in-the-first-round-375241.html

Why has this not been photoshopped??

They have their fun now, but when half their team disappears between now and October due to cap issues you'll know you'll have the last laugh.

I was more interested in Sesame Street and applesauce in the mid 80's My old man introduced me to hockey in 95 or 96, but I think he prolonged my exposure to the sport because of my mom's hatred of violence and the fact that we had Probert. Just a hunch though.

No way we can afford him.

I'd rather cheer for Pronger than Kane.

Cleary's value to the team is higher than anybody's that we could potentially trade for, imo. He's coming off an injury-filled season and his stats (and value to other teams) will reflect that. He's also a player that had developed a bad reputation in organizations not named The Detroit Red Wings. Thus other teams aren't going to want to part ways with much. I say hold onto him and lets see what he can do this year when he's (hopefully) healthy for 82+ games. He seemed pretty optimistic in his last interview about next season.
-
He is amazing at finding those small holes that open up right in front of the net for just a moment, and that's all he needs to redirect a shot into the net. He has a great eye for how the game unwinds. I'd like to see him build up some more muscle because those holes are less common in the NHL, and the punishment for getting caught in them is a bit steeper. I'm excited about Tatar, to say the least.

Pssh .875 is a lot for someone who can only score 51 goals. I mean, he's technically worth it, but he'll have to take a Red Wings' discount in order to show his loyalty.

Who knows how many Cups the Wings would have if he didn't get in that crash.
