Only Danny Markov would purposefully take a shot to the face. Edit: speaking of Markov, he apparently tried taking on 4 police officers recently http://network.nationalpost.com/NP/blogs/postedsports/archive/2010/04/04/former-leaf-danny-markov-arrested-for-drunk-driving-in-russia.aspx

I think The Wayne Jetskis, my intramural team has that beat

No joke that's actually the name of my beer league, but I don't know how we got the name. I joined halfway through the season. I do hear "Go Nads" all the time though. Back when I was in bantam hockey, our team was deciding on a name that would fit well with the ol' powder blue jerseys and some kid suggested that it would be hilarious to be something that has absolutely nothing to do with blue. The first thing that came up was "Camels" and it was instantly a unanimous vote in support of. Now, apparently this is a derogatory term for Middle-Eastern folk and this was right after 9-11. Despite our Coach's best efforts to try to convince us to change it without corrupting our minds with more derogatory terms in a sensitive time period, he was eventually left with the responsibility of explaining to all the parents why we were the Camels.

Percentage of starts next year for Howard and Osgood
Echolalia replied to SouthernWingsFan's topic in General
As far as I'm concerned Howard needs to prove that he can be number one again next year. Sure he was lights out this year, but when the summer is over its a whole new season and his stats from a year before mean jack. Fortunately this is also the case for Osgood. This year he sucked balls, but its not "this year" anymore an he has an opportunity to steal number 1 back, if for the last time in his career. This is the mindset that Babs needs to instill in Ozzie as well as in Howie, and to do that, I think for the starting stretch of the season, Babs should split starts right down the middle. If one goalie starts sucking, skew the start % to 60-40, or 70-30. If they both play well, keep the competition going. They don't get a free ride to number 1 and that's the way it should be. -
Because those 16,000 fans are represented by a single screen to NBC ie 15999 less opportunities for cash. Additionally, that 10 dollars the arena charges doesn't go to NBC, it stays within the organization. I don't think its too much to ask for a fee to make up for lost ratings, but they NBC needs to meet us in the middle. I think a good idea would be to broadcast from both the arena where the game is held, and the away team's arena to present the game, the rabid fans, and look like the good guy for allowing the game to be televised elsewhere.

I think its just NBC who has their panties in a knot about viewing rights

I heard that he had an interview with Columbus recently.

What, exactly, is your definition of parity? Last time I checked the 16th seeded Habs were on their way to the ECF after beating the Presidents trophy winners and Stanley Cup Champions.

I've joined a beer league and have continued to play outdoor hockey. I also have been seeing more of my friends

I'm interested to see how Osgood responds to not being the number-one anymore. Perhaps the lowered expectations and less work will help out his save% and GAA. Then again, he is getting older. Reflexes are kind of a big deal with goaltending, and it was something that was always off this year.

SJS/CHI: 4-2 PHI/MTL: 4-3

Didn't you used to have an avatar? Edit: speaking of postcount, this is number 4000 for me!

Glad to hear that you're better, and I just have to say: I JUST learned about rocky mountain spotted fever in my microbiology class and its cool to get a real live anecdote of what I was just studying Unfortunately at your expense...

Perhaps, but I think an argument could be made both ways when referencing depth. The team was incredibly stacked so Huds was more likely to have strong support around him, thus put up more points. At the same time, because the team was so stacked, Huds wasn't a top 6 forward, nor was he getting top 6 minutes. Next year he'll certainly have more opportunities to score and make plays than two years ago, but he needs to be more of a leader on the ice as well. Having said that, I still think 70 points is doable.

Anyone notice how depressed Doc sounded after Montreal won?
-
Last time he was with the Wings he was 3 points shy of 60. I don't see how Hudler getting 70 points is any less realistic than Datsyuk hitting 100. Both goals are difficult, yes, but also possible given their skill level.
-
I'm not looking to point the blame on Crosby or Ovechkin for their losses. A defensive-oriented team like Montreal is going to put all their resources into shutting those guys down. At that point the best that either of them can do is make it as hard as possible on Montreal to contain them. But when that happens, other players need to step up and take advantage of the fact they aren't versing Montreal's top defensive line. Nobody on the Pens or the Caps stepped up to the plate when they needed it the most.

Its too difficult for me to believe that a league that can't seem to get anything right and is run by one of the most incompetant men in the world is successfully pulling the strings to a giant conspiracy without any particular aim or benefit, or anyone ratting them out. I think that would be giving Bettman too much credit.

As much as I love Datsyuk's play (and I voted for Pavs), Stamkos's goal is just beautiful

Regardless of how many trophies the Wings win, or how many all-star players pass through the rosters, nothing really sucks me into the game quite like facing a hated rival, and I'm sure many will agree with me. Fortunately I was able to experience the glory days back when Yzerman, Shanny, and the Russian Five were constantly pitted against Sakic, Forsberg, Lemieux, and the rest of the Avs. Even looking past the fights that occured, when the Wings and Avs faced each-other it was like an unstoppable force hitting an immovable object. Through that span the Wings earned three Cups and Colorado won two, and in most cases, the teams ended up playing against each other for the right to make it to the Finals each season. If we were to assume that the Wings would have gone on to win the Cup had Colorado not been in their path for the years the Avs won, would you be willing to sacrifice the rivalry that developed between these teams for a couple extra Cups to the Wings' history? In other words, do you think the memories that resulted from being involved in such a rivalry are more valuable than an extra Stanley Cup or two? Finally, do you think that any rivalry, perhaps not as heated as Det/Col (ie Pens and Caps for instance) is worth sacrificing an opportunity at a Cup to experience?

If this year was the league's response to the horrible too-many-men noncalls from last year, one can only hope that next year's resolution includes cracking down on diving.
-
I'm still confident that the Wings have this series. I wish I could say "yes" I'm nervous, but I'm really stoic about this match-up and have been since Game 1.

This is all nice and logical, except we're still talking about Williams here...
