Take a look at the replay from the goalcam. Its probably best to go to youtube to see it so you can fullscreen it at a high resolution. Anyway, when Hanzal shoots the puck you can see that the puck looks like its going to end up hitting the goalcam, but Howie gets his blocker over and the puck drops to the ice before it goes in.

While I agree that Howie should have better controlled his rebound, I fully disagree that the second shot didn't matter. I'm seeing Howie stop the puck with the inside of his blocker, positioned directly between Hanzel and the net.

The Caps have no composure. They aren't even thinking about setting up a play, its get the puck and shoot it as soon as possible. Kudos to Montreal for keeping them on the outside, but the Caps are really making it easy.

The issue for me in this case isn't how much a team travels, but the fact that Montreal is the only team in its time zone. That means continuously having to adjust to games at different times than what your biological clock is used to and for a team that far East versing teams that far West, that's a big difference that's sure to affect play. At least how its set now, many of the games that a team plays are within their own time zone, so no adjusting schedules and getting used to jet-lag for a good percentage of the season. That concept flies out the window with this set-up, and disproportionally so with some teams.

He's forcing the play too much, I think. He knows he's a scorer who isn't scoring, so like any nonscoring scorer will do when their scoring core is sore, he forces the core to overscore, of course, which as we all know is a poor way to try to score. When he starts putting them in, the floodgates will open.

I think the more concerning stat is out of the past three opportunities to eliminate a team from the playoffs, the Wings are 0 for 3.

quick question: Later in the game (I forget which period), all the fans in the arena suddenly stood up and focused on something that appeared to be happening in the corner of the stands, possibly upper lower bowl. Did anyone get a good glimpse what was going down? If it was a fight, who won?
