11/27 GDT: Flames 3 at Red Wings 0

It was a whistle when the puck was never covered, on a play that we would have scored on incidentally enough.

The refs have screwed us out of two goals, now.

You better do that math again

I'm content with just about everything but the score. The boys seemed hungry to win this one and have been having horrible luck. If they maintain the pressure and stop with the retarded defensive lapses, we should win this one.

Echolalia's Game Day Analysis!!!! This is sure to be an interesting game for big Bert, versing the team who chose not to re-sign him in the offseason. Expect him to drive the net harder and finish his checks. You can also expect him to turn the puck over more because his tunnel-vision will be worse than ever tonight. He'll want to prove a point and that will negatively affect his play. Iginla has been on fire the past few weeks, so expect a Lids/Iginla match up throughout most of the game. This will open up scoring opportunities for second and third line players on the Flames now that Kronwall is out. By the way, expect Stuart to play out of his mind tonight. On the offensive side of things, the Wings will be driving the net very hard tonight, hunting down rebounds and making life for Kippur difficult. Keep an eye on Cleary tonight. I'm predicting a dirty goal from him. Special teams continue to be enigmatic tonight. Penalty kill will be so-so, the power play will be a bit better. Still nothing to write home about. Finally, Osgood will look solid tonight, making some tough saves. The ones he'll let it to everyone's relief won't be weak shots, and he'll backstop the Wings to a 4-2 victory.

What are the chances Babcock were to get fired?

In the offseason we lost Marian Hossa in order to sign Franzen. We also lost Sammuelson, so Holland went out and signed Williams to replace him. We also lost Kopecky, so Holland picked up Eaves/Bertuzzi, and Hudler bolted for Russia, so Filppulla was expected to take a bigger role. Franzen is injured, Williams is injured, Bertuzzi is looking like a bad signing, Filppulla is injured, so that takes care of all the replacements, but additionally, Lilja is still out giving us a flawed third defensive pairing, and now Kronwall is out, giving us a flawed second defensive pairing. It is hardly the coach's fault that we are floating around .500 right now.

    Crosby hurting Pens?

Enough with the Crosby media monster.

    Kronwall deserved it?

Anyone can call that either way and have a good argument. Hit to the head, but Havlat wasn't looking up, left the ice before the his vs because of the hit, puck possession vs no puck possession. As being as unbiased as I possibly can I think its a legal hit. Kronwall didn't get suspended, and during this whole war on cheap hits that's going on right now I haven't heard Kronwall on Havlat get mentioned once, so at the very least the NHL and major media think its clean.

Drive the net. That's all I ask.

    Any News on Tatar?

Strong +/- too. This kid isn't even 19 yet and he's holding his own in the AHL, and with plenty of time to develop under a Red Wings' caliber system. I'm salivating right now. The kid absolutely needs to fill out though. He might be able to get away with that size in the AHL but the NHL is a totally different game.

Overall I don't have any real beef with the picks.

Babcock not happy with top line

I'm ready to sit Bertuzzi for a game to send a message. Then when he comes back he can prove to Babs that he's capable of playing NHL hockey with 4 minutes per game. Datsyuk Zetterberg Homer Cleary Abdelkader Leino Eaves Helm Draper Bertuzzi Miller May The Wings have no offense going on so I think is time to go to emergency ZDH line. 5 goals in the past 4 games is disgusting.

    Power Rankings

Osgood has been shaky at the very least this year, and regardless of what numbers Howard puts up, he has a scarlett letter on his chest for being a rookie who hasn't made the roster any of the past four years. If he doesn't get consecutive shutouts, he's doing poorly in the eyes of the media. Especially if the Wings are losing. The first thing people look at is who was in net? Oh, just that kid Howard who has been trying to make the team for the past few years now. Not saying that I agree with it, but I think there's some truth there. I do have to agree with you in saying that its our skaters who have been the weakest link in the chain, and not the goaltending (at least on most nights). The good news is they have steadily improved since day 1 and the new blood is finally showing decent chemistry with everyone else (Bertuzzi is somehow lagging behind though).

The Wings need to get tougher, seriously

Good psychological analysis of tough-guy Laraque. You do know that he has been suspended/fined for his history of cheapshotting 3 times already, right?

The Wings need to get tougher, seriously

The more fights you engage in, fair or not, the greater probability of enduring a career ending concussion or even dying as we have seen in minor leagues. Don't be stupid. I would rather take my chances playing the game and getting a high stick to the face than go balls to the wall in fight with someone. Especially because when the 5 minutes are over, the fight means little to nothing in terms of the actual game.
  19. While we are in 8th place, look how far back we are from 1st. Actually, I'll save you the trouble. San Jose (top team in the league) has 10 more points than us and 3 more games played, which leaves a minimum potential difference of only 4 points. We're currently behind division leader Chicago by the same amount. As long as they keep afloat (which a past 10 record of 7-2-1 is definitely keeping afloat), they should still be in the thick of things once all of Filppulla, Franzen, Kronwall, and hopefully (but don't cross your fingers) Lilja return. The fact that we're as close as we are to 1st place is even more impressive considering how poorly we started. I believe we were 14th in the WC at one point.

The Wings need to get tougher, seriously

I fail to see how being tougher would prevent any of our injuries. In fact, Lilja was a bit too tough last year and we're still waiting to see if he'll ever lace his skates up again.

    This is Great.

I wish enforcer and skill forward didn't evolve to become polar opposites over the last decade.

Kronwall out 4-8 weeks with sprained MCL

All things considered (his knee-injury history, the way he collided with Laraque, etc) I will gladly take a month to 8 weeks.
