Yeah I pretty much just said that but whatever, an analysis of the obvious and clearly-stated is still an analysis I guess. But you still ignored a couple questions that I posed to you at the end, and I'm interested in hearing your response, or anyone's for that matter.

Most of us aren't (and haven't been) taking issue with Crosby himself, at least when it comes to skill. I can easily admit he's a talented player and is capable of doing stuff most other players cannot. My issue is how we're being spoon-fed every little thing that he does, whether its warranted or otherwise. Not only does it rub a lot of fans the wrong way, but it also undermines many other players' abilities, such as Scuderi who did a similar feat in a much higher pressure situation in last year's finals. I tried looking for Scuderi's name in postgame reviews on a couple sites so I had a name to work with in my last post but I couldn't find one. Meanwhile, NHL.com has like 5 videos on Crosby lying across the crease, his history of playing goalie, his mentors at playing goalie, what his opinions are of the moment it happened, a play-by-play, etc. Can you honestly say that that play is worth all the hype that its getting? And if so, wouldn't you agree then that many other players who have done this in the past (it turns out this blocking shots in the crease thing isn't all that uncommon) should have similar publicity?

Red Wings VP Jimmy Devellano on Fan 590: Wings fans should lower expec
Echolalia replied to kook_10's topic in General
I wonder if this is a publicity stunt to fire up the team, or maybe even the fans? -
Okay I just checked it out and based on how everyone is like "well it IS good" I was seriously expecting some badass save that demonstrates agility and awesome reflexes or something. I was even ready to acknowledge that Crosby seriously is elite and it doesn't surprise me that he is capable of such a feat. What I didn't expect was Crosby lying down a half second before the shot was let off and just lying there. Like others have said, Z and Lids have done this before, but what about last year in the playoffs against them? The defensman's name escapes me, but someone on the Pens' team bailed out Fleury unbelievably and kept the Wings from winning the Cup in the waning minutes of Game 6 (I believe). This save is getting more publicity than last year's Cup-saving one. Anyway, with how far out of place Fleury was, find me an nhl player who won't sacrifice the body in a similar manner and I'll randomly pick one of 30 nhl coaches out of a hat that will tear that person a new ******* for not doing their job.

This is a good slogan. I give it the E_S_A_D approval!

Thank you kindly you did a stand up job. And its nice to see the Wings shining in adversity and getting the team back on track. It sounds like work still needs to be done to get to what fans expect, but a shutout is definitely a step in the right direction.

I missed the entire game so I need a 5 minute recap including the strong points, weak points, players of note, and such. Thanks in advance.

I would rather have a Sakic jersey than my choice of about half the Red Wings that have come through the system.

I have a napkin with the "Camel" cigarettes camel on it that Osgood signed at a bar/grill many years ago. And I have a rare 80's t-shirt with a caricature of Yzerman that he signed at a hockey party for my midget team. All the other signatures I have aren't authentic. Edit: Wait, I also have a signed Holmstrom card. I always forget about that thing. Another edit: Quick story that will leave many people here hating my guts. When I was younger my grandma gave me an old "heirloom" hockey stick that my Grandpa had when he was younger. He managed to get signatures from the entire Red Wings team from the 40s or 50s. I don't know the exact year (he died before I was born, and Granny isn't a fan of hockey), but it was old. Anyway, one day I was playing street hockey with a bunch of guys at the corner, and it was a good turnout. I'm talking 16 people and two goalies for two full lines of 4 on 4 hockey. Well I broke my stick battling in the corners, and the only thing I had as a "backup" was that antique stick. So I skated back home, grabbed the stick from my basement, and skated back to the park. Over the course of two to three games the thing busted, and now its remnants are in a garbage dump somewhere. To this day I can't believe how stupid I was.

A 3rd pairing defensman that none of us will think of from a team needing offense and speed. We'll trade Lebda and some no-name prospect.

Hope this doesn't hinder his 80 goal season.

Interesting. I have to admit I didn't think Leino seemed to be struggling all that much out there. I noticed him backchecking strong, fighting well in the corners, and he had a number of opportunities to score but the puck didn't seem to bounce right for him. I wonder if this is more of a move by Babs to let everyone know they need to play with desperation if they want to win. Maybe he thinks Leino needs to take it to the next level with Franzen and Filppulla out, and is getting on his ass right away to see that it happens. In any event, I am surprised to see him out.

Ozzie's Painted Mask - 05/06 Season - Never Game Worn
Echolalia replied to sureWhyNot's topic in General
Man I wish that would see some ice time -
I'd rather focus on defensive lapses than shootout issues. We let in at least 5 goals in a game four times this year already.
-
I think he's a better stick-handler than both of them. He's capable of dangling, deking, through-the-leg s***, etc.

I thought someone discovered that there were actually 50 seconds in a minute and 50 minutes in an hour.

A couple years back I mentioned that I've been incredibly fortunate to have the Wings play so well for so long (my entire watching life), so even after following the team religiously for 15 years, I still didn't know whether I was a bandwagon fan or not, because I never saw them struggle. Anyway, while this season so far has been dismal, I still find myself looking forward to games as soon as the previous one ends. Apparently I'm a masochist (which would also explain my scholarly endeavors). Short answer: I'll never stop watching.

You really have been away from the boards a while...
-
Datsyuk really needs to invest in some thicker skates.
-
He's not injured, he just needs an excuse for letting in 5 goals.
-
Thank God we got that one off our chests. The important thing for the team now is to realize that the wins aren't going to just pour in now. They need to keep at it.
