Hopefully he doesn't join the list of defensman who we lost to freak accidents.

There's nothing like solving a minor problem like being a major ******* to complete strangers. I'm not sold on Homer playing off the first line. He was going through some tough pain throughout the end of the season last year, so he wasn't anywhere near 100%. Hopefully he can turn it around, because he really is the best in the business. If we somehow end up picking up Prospal I like the following: Datsyuk Zetterberg Homer Prospal Franzen Fillpulla Leino Draper Cleary Eaves Maltby Helm

Because this sounds so much better

I believe if a player is put on LTIR, the days that he is on IR do not count against the cap. So if a player is getting paid 2.5M/season and is on LTIR for 35 of 82 games, then 1.065 of that 2.5 should not count against the cap. 35/82= 42.6% 42.6% of 2.5M= 1.065M. At least that's how I understand it. Someone more educated on the matter may very well prove me wrong.

While he has a history of under-performing, Eaves is easily capable of putting up top-six numbers. Having said that, being a top-six player isn't what Holland was looking for in this signing, and shouldn't be expected. Holland wanted a defensive forward who can ease 3rd and 4th line liabilities from last season, as well as strengthen our penalty killing. That is what you can expect from Patrick Eaves. The fact that he shoots right, has top-six scoring potential, and comes at league min are all bonuses.
-
Although Eaves' numbers have been below expectations, I feel he could've signed for more than 500k somewhere else (buys into the team philosophy). He plays both ends of the ice well, and has an all-star work ethic cast around him, including Dan Cleary, who walked his exact path years ago. Its like he was meant to play here. Hopefully he takes full advantage of the opportunity.

BAM right here

And it seems you are under the impression that picking jabs on other people is cool, especially before reading their posts to check the facts. Look over my last post and you will see that I said he won't be signing with the Wings because the above situation that I proposed is the only way to have a complete roster with him in it.

Sportsnet: Hudler awarded 2 year deal 5m total; Still KHL bound
Echolalia replied to DatsyukownzU13's topic in General
This "Hudler doesn't deserve that kind of money" argument is getting old. Nikolai Zherdev, cap hit: 2.5, 58 points John Madden, cap hit: 2.939, 23 points Nick Boynton, cap hit: 2.95, 21 points Niclas Havelid, cap hit: 2.7, 19 points Mike Knuble, cap hit: 2.8, 47 points Brendan Morrison, cap hit: 2.75, 31 points Kyle Calder, cap hit: 2.7, 27 points Todd Marchant, cap hit: 2.518, 18 points Patrick O'Sullivan, cap hit: 2.925, 43 points Alexander Frolov, cap hit: 2.9, 59 points Erik Cole, cap hit: 2.9, 42 points Mikhail Grabovski, cap hit 2.9, 48 points Matt Cullen, cap hit 2.875, 43 points Blake Wheeler, cap hit 2.825, 45 points Wojtek Wolski, cap hit 2.8, 42 points Dan Cleary, cap hit 2.8, 40 points Antoine Vermette, cap hit: 2.763, 41 points Owen Nolan, cap hit: 2.750, 45 points Tomas Plekanec, cap hit: 2.750, 39 points Kyle Turris, cap hit: 2.696, 20 points. In comparison, Hudler was awarded a cap hit of 2.875 for a 57 point season playing primarily on the third line. Based on his current trends and the trends of every other hockey player in history, he has yet to hit his prime, which means that 57 points will most likely get higher, especially if he is promoted from playing with Sammuelson and Cleary type players, and starts working with Fillppulla and Franzen types. Out of all those players listed above, only two put up better numbers than Hudler. One gets paid more than him, and the other one is rumored to have demanded a 4+M contract and will most likely end up in the KHL. All the other players have put up equal or less points than him, and for around the same cap hit. -
When I see the title of this thread I think "too many cookies" and then I think to myself, "no way."

There's no other way for it to happen. The Wings have around 3M total to sign two players, assuming they trade away a defensman like they said they would at the beginning of the year. To sign Zherdev at 3M we would have to rely on Meech as our 12th forward. And in order to get .5M from Lilja being on IR, he would have to sit out 40% of the season (which means Meech is going to be needed on the back end. At this point you might as well have Abby play full time, but then you can't afford Zherdev anymore. This is why I don't think its likely that Zherdev comes to Detroit. Prospal, however, is a different story because regardless of where he ends up he is still going to be getting paid from Tampa Bay because they bought out his contract. He is in a position to make close to 4M a season with only having around a 2M caphit. If he wants to win a Cup, these next couple years are far and away his best opportunity at it.

I didn't know Paul Stastny was American

I haven't facepalmed myself yet, but its been suspiciously long since something stupid has happened. Everybody needs to go vote in the adventure thread! I'm waiting on votes to get the story going! You and 55fan are the only ones participating. Right now the vote is tied between Natilie and Zombie Carrier Pidgeon. good god i did it again The person below me will find the adventure thread and vote!!!

poison ivy because I'm immune. I did get swimmer's itch at the beginning of the summer, and this past weekend I experienced my first leech. Swimmer's itch or leech

All my threads die really quickly though. I had high hopes for the Echolalia adventure thread and Behind the Wings Fan, but alas it wasn't meant to be. I would definitely have a blast hanging out with some people from the forums. Everyone seems fun. I don't really enjoy football all that much, but I blame the Lions more than anything for that. The person below me ABRA CADABRA YOU'RE A TOAD!!!

(Edit) If we trade Lebda, that gives the Wings about 3.179M to work with to sign two forwards. Zherdev/Prospal for 2M(discount) and a 4th line grinder for league minimum to 1M to put us right up against the cap. Keep Abby in Grand Rapids to develop for another year. Meech plays as a 13th forward/7th defensman.
-
I don't think the Wings would be able to afford anyone else if they signed Zherdev. He made 3.25 last year (2.5 cap hit), which is almost exactly what the Wings have in cap space right now. Our cheapest route for a 12th forward is most likely Abdelkader, but with him in the lineup, Zherdev would have to agree to less than 2M.

iiiiiiinteresting....

I honestly have no clue, and its not necessarily a negative thing that Prospal went out and scored a couple that game either. I'm just looking at all possible worst-case scenarios.
-
Does anyone know of the type of relationship that Prospal and Babcock had while they were in Anaheim? My only concern with Vinny is from his little outburst against Torts last year. That strikes me as a potential problem, but if he and Babs already have a good history I don't think Prospal will have as much a problem buying into the system.

I haven't been to a zip-line course, per se, but my friend and I when we were younger made our own "zip line" from the top of his tree (about 25-30 feet up) to the bottom of another tree (about 8 feet up). We didn't have any actual zip-line equipment because we were both too poor to afford anything like that, so we just tied a rope to each of the trees, and got another rope that would move from point A to point B to hold on to. We held the mobile rope to the "zip-line" with a pad lock to cut down on friction. He went first because it was his yard and it worked perfectly! We tied the rope into a loop at the bottom of the mobile rope to stick your foot into, and because this was the site of contact, you tended to lean backwards with your feet leading the way down. I went next, and it was a total blast. My friend went again after me, and the second he applied his weight to the rope and committed himself to the zipline, the padlock snapped in half. Because he was already leading with his feet forward, he ended up falling backwards and landing clean on his back 25 feet down. At first it was quite scary, but after he got up and got the wind back in him, it just became another one of our stupid misadventures. the person below me notices that I frequently forget to add 'the person below me' statements to my posts

I know penalty minutes is not a solid indicator of physicality, but generally there is a correlation: Grier only had 9 more penalty minutes than Hudler last year. That tells me that Grier may be capable of playing very physical, but he doesn't seem to be doing much of anything. Either that or he is the cleanest big-body the league has ever seen.

Obviously Prospal is on the top of my list, but I wouldn't mind seeing Bertuzzi come back for a year either. I do have a horrible feeling that if we end up signing Bert he's going to spend a big part of the season injured, though...
