vanilla. by the way, does anyone else have a weird format for viewing threads in lgw, now? alphabet or numbers

Keep in mind that a chunk of Datsyuk's minutes are spent killing penalties, while Crosby, Malkin, and Ovechkin tend to get more powerplay time and less-to-no PK time.

I wonder if they're consciously trying to make this into a Thanksgiving-like tradition of Football, except obviously for hockey, and are currently in the process of gauging how fans will react to having more than one game per day. If this ends up being the case five or six years from now, I'm not presently sure how I would feel about this as it will take the novelty away from a single game per year, but I do like the idea of grilling up some food on a snowy day and watching nonstop hockey from noon to 10 and entertaining every new years day.

Longshot but is it possible Penguins could match what Oilers
Echolalia replied to thegreat66's topic in General
Pittsburgh wins a single championship and all of a sudden "LOOK OUT DYNASTY!!" Anyway, riddle me this Pens fans: what happens if Crosby or Malkin or Staal or Fleury or some other player gets injured at the wrong moment? What happens if player X's elbow grazes a slapshot and a save suddenly turns into a goal against the Pens? What happens if Tavares turns out to be just as good or better than Crosby or Malkin, and decides to take a smaller cap hit to ensure more superstar power and thus a better team? What happens if some other team picks up a late round steal and locks him up cheap and gets 40 goals out of him? What happens if one of your stars has an off year, or even an off game at the wrong time? What happens if that icing that leads to a goal was waved off? What happens if that play was wrongly called an icing and it results in a goal? What happens if your team has to go up against the three hardest EC teams before the Finals? The point is, there are way too many variables that come into play in an 82+at least 16 game year and any one of them could easily knock a team off the Cup. Having been through plenty of the above situations since Detroit won back in 1997, Wings fans have a good grasp on how much luck (for lack of a better word) comes into play in winning a Cup. This year, whether you want to believe it or not, the Pens had the luxury of versing a Wings team with almost half their core battling serious injuries. Last year the Wings lucked out in that we were able to avoid Calgary, Anaheim, and San Jose in the playoffs, all of which are tough to play against and can really physically wear down a team. In the WCF, it was just a matter of picking off the winner (Dallas), who was already fatigued, and taking advantage of an inexperienced Pens team, while we were all completely healthy. The year before we weren't so lucky, having to go through Calgary, San Jose, and Anaheim before being rubbed out in the WCF (Anaheim had to verse the Wild and Canucks before facing us, btw). I'm a firm believer that it takes more than pure skill to win the Stanley Cup. It also takes a fair share of luck, especially in the modern era. This goes for the 2009 Penguins, the 2008 Red Wings, the 2007 Ducks, the 2006 Hurricanes, etc etc). If you don't see this now, I promise you within the next year or two, you will. At that point I'll just say "welcome to the club". Anyway, based on how the league is set up now, what with the salary cap, parity, inconsistent reffing/rules, higher skilled players and bigger bodies to create more opportunities for injury, etc etc etc, I wouldn't be surprised if the league never sees a dynasty again, barring unlikely significant reform. -
The Winter Classic is the one thing that the nhl seems to have gotten completely right, and now they're going to ruin that too.

I think that might be it

Who is supposed to replace Filppulla? -
Sedins to KHL

Beating a dead horse and grasping at straws. The playoffs are over, its time to move on.

When I think of best defensman in the league, Green honestly doesn't come to mind. In fact, if the media didn't hype out his offensive knack (which don't get me wrong, is definitely impressive) I wouldn't even know whether he was one of Washinton's top defensman or a 5th/6th dman.

Top Ten Players in the Playoffs from the Hockey News
Echolalia replied to 40#1Fan's topic in General
I'm so glad the Wings have Zetterberg and Datsyuk -
The Wings have enough scorers and not enough caproom. I would rather focus on securing either Hossa or Sammy/Hudler/etc, and if Holland does want to pick up someone in the offseason, make it Bowmeester or a wily energy-bringin' veteran.

There's no way Helm can replace Filppulla. They play two completely different styles. Filppulla is a playmaker with a good offensive hockey sense, while Helm is a speedy grinder who creates his opportunities on turnovers and extended pressure. The Wings will need a combination of both if they expect to make another deep run.

35th place. I think I improved from last year. By the way, thanks a bunch for doing this. I always look forward to it.

I like the new Pens' logo, as well as the blue and white color scheme. Especially more than the pointy 90's logo. I don't know if anyone has ever seen some concept art for logos throughout the league, but if the league picked it up (even though its blasphemy to change O6 logos), I would think it was one of the sweetest logos in the league. http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_r8tWGVHrjGI/SHPr...chicagologo.png Its so well thought out. It loses the old Indian head that apparently more people are having problems with because America has to be politically correct, now, but it still retains some features of the Indian head. That and the hawk just looks so badass. Anyway, I have to say the Ducks' current logo is the least appealing to me. I wish they stuck with the old Mighty Ducks logo.

Yeah, and it always looked like one of the yip-yip's in your avatar (the one on the right) was smoking. The person below me thought the same thing.

If you are referring to the "couple" that's ambiguously thrown in there a couple sentences earlier, I would hardly consider that the premises for the time period that he is referring to, especially in the context that it's used. I'm simply asking for clarification on the timepoints that he used to gather his statistics. Instead of volunteering to jump in as a third person and pointlessly attacking me, your time would have been more productive with just giving me an answer, but being an ass is an option too, I guess.

Instead of simply stating "fact" in hopes of proving your point, how about you back up your argument with actual substance. Pointlessly throwing "fact" around might win a debate in a Pens forum, but we're used to support and substance here, so if you plan on trolling here for a while (which I assume will be the case, based on the fact that we're already 5 days into the summer and you're still here), learn how to defend your statements. Who knows, if you properly defend yourself long enough, people might just be willing to take you a bit more seriously. I'll give you an example of supporting an argument by retorting: Hossa had 10 points in 12 games with the Penguins in the regular season for a ppg of .83. Because the Wings don't have Crosby, one would assume based on your "argument" that Hossa's ppg would go down. Surprisingly, this is not so . Hossa's ppg was at .96 this year, which is significantly higher than when he was playing on the Pens. In the postseason last year, Hossa's numbers were almost identical to Crosby's, which is often the case when two players play on the same line. As many people have already tried to explain to you through your "fact" throwing, this trend continued in this year's Finals. Both players only had three points. So instead of saying Hossa is nothing without Crosby, it would appear that the argument could be made that Crosby is nothing without a player who actually knows how to score goals (6 goals throughout the entire playoffs last year, with the majority of his assists on Hossa's goals. This year, 15 goals is much more impressive, but when the Pens get around to versing a team that actually knows how to play defense, only 1 goal in 7 games, and only 2 assists). Granted, Hossa did have a bad year offensively this postseason, but I still feel that enough has been said to refute your "fact". Actually, I could have just saved a bunch of time and said "Hossa makes Crosby look better than he actually is. Fact." and called the debate a draw.

Its better than snorting regular coke, I suppose. I definitely AM going on vacation soon, and I'm so excited! Torch Lake next weekend, followed by Sterling State Park 4th of July weekend, then Aloha State Park in the end of July. Too much fun! edit, crap! The person below me plays inline hockey at the Ferndale rinks.
