How I compared this year's team from last year's was may've been arbitrary, but it definitely wasn't random. There were valid reasons for the decisions that I made in comparisons, and if you don't like or care about it then post somewhere else. knowledge of the word 'random' -2 general politeness of your post: -5 how good your tv really is: -10

Mike Myers is a pretty big hockey fan as is. I don't know whether this is his little idea to promote the nhl or not, but I definitely don't mind. Theres plenty of other sports movies out there.

Unfortunately Ovechkin isn't Canadian

This is going to be a long night for the Bruins. Good for Ovechkin; I love how he celebrates, its really gets the crowd going. THe nhl needs more big personalities like his. And I don't think Fedorov had anything to do with his goals, although he may have a secondary assist somewhere. edit: Fedorov has nothing to do with anything tonight so far.

Thats the only thing I'm worried about, is wanting to have a fresh face, if for no other reason than to better represent the 'equal teams nhl'. But if they go for who best deserves it, regardless of how prestigious said person's history is, then Lidstrom gets it by a long shot. Like I said earlier, hes in a league of his own.

That would be one hell of a first round if this actually ended up being the case. Wings vs Avs with a bunch of old roster players back for one last run (good history behind the series) Dallas vs Vancouver- rematch of last year, and also one of the closest played series from last year (potential "rivalry" series) San Jose vs Anaheim- These two have been at eachothers throats this season, and it would be very interesting to see which team can out muscle the other (and who is left standing)

Yeah, but Al doesn't represent all the ushers that watch over the crowd. The best bet is to do it when everyone is standing up and things are kinda chaotic (ie a goal or a fight or something), and worst case scenario: if you do get caught, you can always ask to let it slide, and by it I mean a $20, and by slide, I mean into his pocket.

His absence only shows how important of a defensman he is to our system. Him not being in the lineup has contributed to our worst streak in almost 20 years. With Lids in the system, we were on pace to tie our all-time regular season points record. Add that little tidbit to the staggering +/- defensive points, shut-down ability and any other general statistics you can get on a guy and Lidstrom is still in his own league for the Norris. In fact, I'm beginning to think the nhl should give out a "Lil Norris" or "Norris Jr." trophy, just so other defensmen have a chance to win something while Lids is around.

So Derek Meech is one of the "hot defensmen" listed at yahoo sports. Can't really argue, especially if you see how many scoring chances this kid has made for himself. At first I was disappointed whenever he was called up (especially with how solid Quincey played in the playoffs last year), but Meech is really showing a lot of potential out there, and I cannot wait to see him with a Wings uniform for 82 games, which, hopefully will be next year. potential d-lineup: Lidstrom Rafalski Kronwall Stuart Meech Lilja/Lebda I may be reacting a bit too soon, but that lineup is making me salivate

So the Wings have been on possibly the worst streak in the past 20 years for this franchise, deserving to loose some, not deserving to loose others; however you like to see it, but if the organization is smart (which I like to think it is), they should be comparing all these bad bounces and injuries to all the adversity they'll definitely see in the playoffs. It seems to me that if the Wings are going to win a game, they're going to have to earn it, and earn 100% of it. This means winning with insurance goals, and not letting themselves give the opposition a chance (whether they take advantage of it within the rules or otherwise). I'm looking at tonight's game as a good example of what we can't do in the future. We let San Hose stay in the game with us the entire time, and ultimately it was a bad call that won it, but in the future it can just as easily be a legal goal that decides it. We need to prevent ourselves from even getting in that position to begin with. Instead of being down 2-1 when the bounce happens, we should've been up 2-0. Now I know its easier said than done, but we have a great team. A GREAT team, no matter how many people think otherwise. We're fully capable of going the extra 10% to prevent "bad bounces" from deciding a game, and we'll be in even better shape when our entire team is healthy (especially Chelios, because he loves getting in the refs faces about bad calls). But this means everyone needs to show up to play ie Hudler, Fillpulla Franzen, LILJA, Lebda, etc, and this rough patch is just the event that should teach them (again, if the organization is smart).

That's exactly what I'm saying actually, and as simple and stupid as it sounds. The Wings played to win tonight, and they definitely played better than San Hose, but they didn't play to completely slaughter them. We didn't have that killer instinct for 60 minutes, and we haven't for a single game this month. Thats going to be key when the games start to matter, and we need to wise up and see that every game needs to be taken seriously for the entire duration, by every player, or we're already giving the other team a chance. When we're on the ball we are the best team in the league. Say whatever you want about all the trades that happened yadda yadda, but we definitely have what it takes. We just aren't using it.

I'm not trying to be optimistic or anything, more or less I'm trying to say that we aren't playing as well as we should be (something we all know, already), but tonight I think its fair to say we outplayed the opposition anyway (and a couple nights in the playoffs last year, also) but still lost. Unfortunately the better team doesn't always win, and we need to take a lesson and learn to prevent ourselves from getting into a position to where the opposition can win on a single lucky shot. In the end its just going to come down to hard work, and its going to be everyone's hard work. Also the 'we're going to be unstopable!' is sarcastic; I'm beginning to think that people aren't reading it that way.

We'll be fine. We just lost for the last time this season.

As much as I would love to see a physical game (especially against the Sharks), I unfortunately think its in the Wings best interest to not play too physical because of all the injuries we already have...
