Prospal for Sammy and a prospect Hossa for a helluva lot, including but not limited to Franzen, Hudler, Lilja, draft picks and/or prospects. Then bring up Quincey for a full-time role.

According to yahoo, the game is also on FSN... can anyone validate this?

Not that I'm too worried about this slump (as we are 8 points ahead of 2nd in the league with 2 games in hand), but if I recall, the '02 slump was at the end of the year when Scotty was resting our top players for the playoffs... Today's slump is because we've sucked.

well then by difference of opinion, i think he's about done. i actually did get it from a song entitled 'echolalia' but its from a band called The Snake The Cross The Crown oh, and it refers to the repetitive mumbling that babies or mentally disabled people do. Echo= repetative, lalia=jargon

Deal. I would just rather prefer someone like Hossa, or if our future is an issue, someone like Prospal, who would be a bit cheaper.

The whole point of the Sammy/Feds comparison was to emphasize my point that I think Fedorov is useless (as Samuelson is also useless. Look around other threads, I bash him as much as anyone). This isn't a "who would you prefer" thing, this is a "neither are good, lets keep both of them far away from the Wings' playoff mission" thing. Besides, if you want defense, why not trade for a defensman? If anyone in the entire league were on a better team, their numbers would most likely be better. Thats such an objective argument it has no merit whatsoever. (Why not pick up Anson Carter? His numbers would be better on a high caliber team like the Wings.) So instead of picking up Fedorov, why not get someone like Prospal, who plays for a way bad Tampa Bay Lightning, who, despite playing for a horrible team, is still producing constant offense.
-
No matter how you want to analyze his numbers, they aren't impressive, and they definitely aren't the make-or-break x factor the Wings are missing. I don't want to get into a Feds/Sammy comparison because I made it simply to emphasize my point that Fedorov is useless. We need someone who has proven this year, not 5 years ago, that he can score, and is a player that we can rely on in the playoffs. Fedorov is not that player. He was half a decade ago, but he isn't now.
-
Last time I checked Sammy had better stats across the board then Feds, and also didn't have injury problems (a common problem for most washed up players). Now, I'm not saying Samuelsson is good; I want him off this team as much as anyone here, but I think bringing Fedorov back to Detroit would be a huge waste of prospects and/or draft picks. He has nothing left in the tank, he's had nothing left for a while, and he's getting progressively worse with each year. If we want to bolster our team up, lets get someone who can actually produce what we need, not sell tickets for the 90's diehards to reminisce.

How much revenue could this possibly attract? The only people who are close enough to see whats on the jerseys would be in the first two rows off the ice, and I'm willing to bet they won't be focusing on what Honda's latest toy is. And this would discourage me from buying a jersey, thus decreasing nhl revenue, from me, personally.

"This isn't the last of the Coyotes, Datsyuk!!! Mark my words!" also, we should do this on a regular basis with the frozen pictures.
-
Please no Fedorov. Seriously, what can he possibly do that Sammy (oh god) can't?
-
Because as someone else has already said, it was only one game, and I believe his career record with the wings only has one win. In addition, he's been playing in low pressure situations, acting as a relief when were already down by three goals, and coming in as the starter only when we're already amidst the longest loosing streak in a decade. He definitely played well tonight, but why risk destroying something good in Jimmy by putting him in number 1 too soon, when you can play it safe and have a perfectly solid, proven (although many will argue this as of late) goalie to take the helm, or at the very least, split the season with

Yeah, even though we've lost 6 in a row (btw, this loosing streak accounts for 30% of the entire year's losses for the wings), we're still 8 points ahead of second place in the league (Dallas), with two games in hand. Not just any team can pull off a 6 game loosing streak and still be clean favorites for the President's trophy in the middle of February. But yes, we need Cleary badly, and the projected date of return should be right around the time playoffs start, but I wouldn't be surpirsed if he didn't return until the second round, as tentative return dates are usually pushed back.

I'd be more comfortable with Howard starting off in a backup goaltending position, rather than jumping right into the number one spot
-
Quincy needs a permanent spot on the Wings now.

I definitely agree, although I won't agree that the nhl isn't trying to do something about it. We had the shootout challenge in the allstar games this year, and the whole point of it wasn't necessarily to score a goal; it was to make the attempt as beautiful and show-boaty as possible. Unfortunately, most players didn't get exactly what was being asked, or they were too timid about performing in such a way. Anyway, players like Ovechkin stood up to the challenge and brought a little personality to the shootout, and those are the players that the nhl is trying to market. We could just use more of them.

fix'd I like that; very clever.

I don't think I like those lines very much. As odd as it would be to have Kopecky on the first line, I think he's really been one of the few players actualy showing up to play lately, and as Datsyuk is primarily a playmaker, and Homer is primarily a front-of-the-net guy, I think being on a line with those two would be good for Kopecky, especially with how hes been playing recently. Move Franzen to the second line as a 2nd Homer-like player, with Filpulla playing a Dats-like role for Zetterberg, as I see Filpulla more as a playmake than a scorer, anyway (alot of people have been complaining about his decisions to pass instead of shoot, much like Datsyuk during his earlier years). Zetterberg ofcorse plays the scorer. Samuelson can get the priveledge of playing the leader of the third line, and maybe he'll actually be of some use down there. Checking line is Maltby Drake and Downey. Datsyuk, Holmstrom, Kopecky Zetterberg, Franzen, Filpulla Samuelson, Hudler, Draper Maltby, Drake, Downey Ellis I know it looks unorthodox, but if we're going to fiddle with the lines to this degree and amidst a loosing streak, lets get creative and see what happens. We should be playing desperately against the Stars, anyway.

I'm ready for Kopecky to take his place in the lineup, and put him on the table alongside Sammy and Lilja for tradebait.

his grandmother

I'm about ready to bring up the entire Griffins team with the way we've been plaing
-
You're all crazy.
-
Well okay, but I think my girlfriend might get a little irritated every time we watch the game
-
Yes! The "Datsyuk Says" advertisement line! Datsyuk says, "Shoop ot Ookeytoon Outentics! Buy my Merchindisse!"
-
Yes, he has gotten alot of points from being alongside Lecavalier, but when Vinny L. stopped playing a couple weeks ago, Prospal was still putting up numbers. I also believe he was put on the second line, and was producing there, also. We have an excess of playmakers, and not enough shooters. This guy clearly can shoot, so lets pick him up for cheap (probably the most efficient trade for us out there), and put him on a line with a couple playmakers. He'll fit right in. Also: did anyone see the celebration at the end of that video? Aren't there alot of people on these boards that want that kind of energy and personality on the team? I could be wrong, but I think i remember reading a couple things relating to that recently
