Get rid of the instigator rule, the trapezoid, readjust the conferences to promote more long standing rivalries (ie detroit and toronto), and cut the fat ala Panthers etc, increase commercial deals to make the nhl more mainstream, possibly cutting a deal with nascar or nfl to promote the nhl during commercials to reach out to southern citizens, wheras the nhl promotes nascar or nfl to northern American/Canadian cities. Fix the schedule to make every team verse eachother twice year (one home one away), give the refs more incentive to make better calls, encourage players to treat eachother with respect on the ice, the list goes on forever

I'm willing to bet that Zetterberg is being primed for captaincy

I don't really think that a lack of defense is what brought us down last year. Sure we didn't have Kronwall or Scheider, but those two significant, series changing goals came off of a deflection from Lidstrom's stick, and a misplay by good ol' Lilja. Both freak things. However, if we are going to pick up a defensman, I would be all for trading away Lilja instead of some draft picks, if at all possible. And I do agree with most in that we could definitely use some size and/or some reliable scoring up front. Preferably scoring though, because the Wings held their own pretty darn good last year when it came to hits.

Well we are a pretty damn good team. Ottawa is giving us a run for our money, but as of now we have the best record. And i think its worth mentioning that I will flip out with excitement if the Wings verse Ottawa in the finals this year. That would be such an intense series.

Although I agree that Z still has some growing to do, I'm not sure if I would go so far to say that he will end up leading the league in scoring this year. But he really has come out flying, and I though this 'streak' would end by now, so who knows? He sure as hell has been playing like he wants that award, and I know that it isn't impossible by any means. It will be a pretty tight race.

Is there any more to this topic? note: i didn't post this thread, despite my being the first post in the thread

I wish he would consider joining the Wings. I think we're his greatest chance at another cup, at least

Imagine if everybody's heads were shaped distinctly like pears

Haha, "Mike Babcock's 200th win, do you get him something?" Cleary: "The puck" apparently the news hasn't gotten out

this is crazy

http://tsn.ca/nhl/news_story/?ID=225259&hubname=nhl this could be interesting...

If something of a problem ends up coming from this, then the nhl would surely get involved. It would be catastrphic for the game if all the players that people go to see don't play for half the season Besides, its really risky these days because all the teams are so close together. Alot of teams are going to miss the playoffs this year by one game, most likely one goal. You need your best players out there to get to the playoffs.

The 01-02 season was destined to win with all that firepower

I never thought about Chelios as commish....

This and your previous post are some of the most solid I've seen lately. Couldn't agree more

Why was that goal counted? There was a Nasville player interfering with Osgood in the crease. edit: Zetterberg has the most shots of any player in the league, I believe, and he also has second most goals scored.

That is exactly my problem, and the fact that there are other, more exciting things that are happening on any given night, and they're always second to "Crosby's Pens Win Again!" I never said that I had a problem with Crosby, but I do have a problem with how the media is handling things, and if its "exploitation" to get the nhl in a better position, they really are screwing their chance up badly by making such mediocre news headlines over more exciting things in the nhl. I'm not saying don't use the kid at all, but at least use content that people care about, and not "Crosby Plays Goalie During Last 10 Minutes of Practice" or "Brave Crosby Plays With Sore Toe". He is a hockey player, not a deity, and even though he is good, he isn't that good.
-
What about Teemu Selanne? He had the hottest rookie year in history and he didn't get this much publicity for his rookie year. What about all the players that are better than Crosby? Yes hes a good player, but when I see headlines that say "crosby leads Pens to victory over 'insert team here'" when he has no goals, no assists, no penalty minutes, or any plus minus in that game, I'm pretty sure hes getting credit where he doesn't deserve any. And you can't tell me that because hes getting headlines concerning him playing with a torn toenail or a broken pinky toe or whatever that hes considered the best player in the league. If you don't play under those circumstances then you're going to get it, but only Crosby is being publicized. In fact, I just read an article about how 'versatile' Crosby is because during practice he was goofing around in net. Tell me, what hockey player hasn't tried his luck in net during practice? Also, how is this national hockey news? Just because hes a good hockey player (and Im definitely not saying that he isnt) doesn't mean he deserves all this media, especially when about 40% of it has absolutely nothing to do with him doing anything productive for anyone.

A couple days ago I said to myself "between Cleary and Hudler, whoever gets a point first will earn a roster spot on my team." Cleary scored first
-
his talent definitely doesn't warrant the amount of publicity he is getting, or the credit that should belong to the Pens as a whole, and not him as an individual.
-
That just means that Minnesota can't officially use it for marketing. It doesn't stop people from saying on the streets what 'hockeytown' really is. The point is, though, we never really crowned ourselves the best city for hockey, it was just a marketing gimmick. thats it. and now, for whatever reason, people are trying to take our gimmick away, as if it was a title or something.
-
What exactly is Lemaire trying to do, because he sure as hell ain't trying to punish us for that "attack". Oh yeah, lets suspend Dom for a game, and force the Redwings to put the hottest goaltender in the league into the next game- that'll show em!

Didn't we have about 60% of the votes, too?
