As bad as it is to have to rely on only one line for all your scoring (especially with all the hype surrounding much of the rest of our team), I am really really comfortable with our position. Unless Bettman changes the schedule midseason and has us playing central teams for the rest of the year, its safe to say we'll make the playoffs, or, more importantly for my argument, the trade deadline. We have plenty of money to afford a top line scorer for our second line, even if he only stays with us for the rest of the year. If we can get a top-notch player at the deadline (and we really have very few things keeping us from doing so), we can use this person as a catalyst for scoring on our second line, and hopefully (expectedly), the rest of the second line will pick up their scoring due to the Good Players Make Less Good Players Better Law. Of course thats not to say that we don't have a problem with our scoring, but I'm looking at it as a temporary problem at worst, which, regardless, should be solved by the deadline.

I could care less if we resign him next year so long as he helps us win a cup this year. As of right now we have 5 million to go toward the deadline and incentives Hasek most likely won't be getting. We definitely have the money.
-
I wouldn't mind seeing Prospal
-
by the way, does anyone have either of those Downy fights posted online yet?
-
Pick up Hossa at the deadline for whatever it takes. The wings really need to make a move this year.

Sounds like someone has Ozzie and Leclaire on their fantasy team

this thread was made more because the gdt for the game was getting really messy, really fast. There was a lot of innapropriate arguing, especially around Hasek, and this is place to discuss it civilly (ie debate). this isn't a GDT, this isn't a Hasek vs Osgood thread, this is a "why the wings lost thread" First of all, Hasek did not play a bad game last night. 3 goals were let in on 29 shots; two on the power play. Despite popular belief (which I have no idea why is popular belief), not all of Nashville's goals were scored off rebounds. Only one was scored off a rebound, and it was from a slapshot from the point, a shot that usually results in a rebound of some sort, especially when there are people in front of the net. Hasek made the initial save, and the defensmen failed to clear the puck from in front of the net, thus resulting in a goal. The other two goals were as I've said before, one-timers from Pred forwards wide open within 15 feet of Dom. Both shots were very good shots that nobody can save without a good amount of luck. Both of these goals I also blame on the defensmen. you dont even leave a forward wide open in front of the net. Why the wings lost was because of a plethora of reasons. First of all, we didn't capitalize on our endless powerplay oppurtunities, including a couple 5 on 3s. We were weak shorthanded, with 2/3s of Nashville's goals resulting from powerplays. We were outhustled in every way. Every way. The refs obviously didn't help, but the calls went both ways, and only one team saw the opportunity. Keep it civil, kids.

rrom original post: "Keep it civil, kids" no, I created this thread because alot of people were arguing this subject in the GDT, and they were mixed pretty well with random GDT appropriate threads, essentially creating a negative environment to debate anything. This was also not appropriate to put in the "hasek vs osgood" thread, as i clearly stated in my first post.

Osgood is the better goalie as of all 20 something-odd games played this season. He may not be better all-time, but he is playing better now, and nobody can argue otherwise and be taken seriously. To those who say Hasek should remain number 1 for the immediate future, answer this question: why not play Osgood as number 1 for the immediate future, as he is currently fifth in the league with 10-1, with THE BEST goals allowed average in the league at 1.65. So, why not?
-
Only one goal came off of a rebound, what the heck were you watching? Two goals came off of one timers from guys wide open within 15 feet of the net; excellent shots, by the way. Oh, and two goals also came from power plays. Notice how Nashville won? because WINGS DIDNT CAPITALIZE ON COUNTLESS 5 ON 3s and 5 on 4s, not to mention the wonderful defense we had
-
I won't deny that Hasek has been playing poorly this season, but I disagree that he sucks tonight. He has 27 saves on the game out of 30, which statistically isn't "sucky", especially when 2 goals were power play goals. and only one goal was a result of "lack of rebound control", but what about the defense whose job it is to clear out any rebounds from the initial save? Why don't they suck? Oh, and because Mason played better than Dom that warrents Dom sucking? So every goalie who lets in 3 goals sucks? Every goalie who looses sucks? Oh, and Nashville as of right now has a better chance of getting into the playoffs than half the Western conference. You must say much more if youre going to convince me Hasek sucked tonight.
-
Holy cow. Too bad Hasek sucks, or it would still be 3 to 2 edit: oh wait
-
To those of you who think hasek absolutely sucks tonight: do any of you actually care to support your statements?
-
haha you gotta be kidding me! a one-timer from a forward wide open 15 feet in front of the net, sniped out top corner. Tell me, who does stop that who isn't superman? he should've been covered by a defensman.
-
Holy cow, apparently Dom has become the new whipping boy. 21 saves as of the second intermission, btw.

I want to see a highlight reel fight for Downey that directly secures his job on this team. Oh, and Homer and Lids are on my fantasy team, so anything they could contribute would be appreciated.
-
another favor to those out there: does anyone have Osgood's rankings for any significant stats compared to those all-time? I know there are a couple that he is closing in on, but I would like a compilation of as many of his "good" stats as possible. Wikipedia let me down.
-
Tootoo better watch himself out there, Downey has made it his personal job to take care of those who take liberties on our team. That said, Tootoo, be sure to trip someone up while big D is on the ice
-
Sounds like an all around good experience. I've been meaning to take the trip down to Cheli's Chili, but I always seem to have better things (absolutely nothing whatsoever) to do
-
Thanks for all the feedback guys, although I didn't mean to hijack this thread. I went to a Tigers game in Chicago this past August and although I'm not that heavy of a baseball fan it was the most entertaining experience that a sports game has given me, and I've been to playoff home games for the Wings. So I feel its time to head to Chicago to support the ol troops. Theres nothing quite like being an underdog, I must admit, although apparently I may not even be an underdog at Chicago
-
Grigs will play next year
-
Even when Drake is 100% - Why not Downey full time?
Echolalia replied to stevkrause's topic in General
Aside from the -6, those numbers really don't help the argument, but I must say I'm more entertained when Downey is out there -
Apparently everyone who frequents this forum was elsewhere around 10:00 pm last night. I really want to hear what was said, although I'm almost positive that its the same old, "im doing everything I can to maintain a positive look on life and get back out onto the ice"

It will be good to hear from him

It appears the 70/30 60/40 has suddenly turned into a 50/50 I'm officially a first line sniper. Take that all of you who have less posts than me.
