Don't worry Vega21... I mean Crymson.... I'll keep your secret

I'm kinda surprised by these allegations that Grigs is out of shape and is giving a lack-luster performance. All his scouting reports say hes known for his hard work ethic and (prior to the accident) his ability to function exquisitely at fast paces, including taking and receiving passes, and shooting. He averaged a point per game in the prospects mini series, and i believe he has two points in three scrimmages now. Maybe he is out of shape and isn't giving it his all, I really don't know. I haven't been at the camp, and I'm not the type to make excuses for other people, but I'm kinda under the impression that this blogger may have a bit of a bias for whatever reason.

I'm kinda iffy about Sopel. Apparently he has a problem with turnovers, and we just got rid of Lang.

How are you guys keeping up with the score?
-
They did have us up against the ropes. I remember thinking to myself that we can't keep playing how we're playing through the first 2 games or we're going to loose. They were in our zone like it was a powerplay through much of those games. In the end, though, I don't think they beat themselves, but rather weak goaltending did.

I'm not particularly one for critiquing players in games I haven't seen, nor am I one to make excuses for a player who may be performing below their apparent ability. The bottom line is he has a chance to make the team when training camp starts. If he brings it there and is as good as everyone says, he'll be on the team no problem. If he is out of shape or whatever else the problem might be, then he doesn't deserve to play for the wings, cuz he'll just be slowing the rest of the team down. In any event, we'll see how good he really is in 3 weeks.

I must see a youtube of this. What can you do for me

I dont like how they hug the body. But it must be worth the .08% average skating speed increase.

I think the real question here is how hasn't Robert Lang proven he's a leader? And on that note I gladly give my vote to Cap'n Lang o' the Blackhawks
-
Apparently Eriksson is the real prospect we should be looking at. hes averaging a goal a game

I've used 30-50 dollar sticks my entire life and am quite content with that. i really can't see my skill level improving an extra 150-200 dollars worth by using a different stick

I remember hearing (or reading) somewhere that Grand Rapids isn't really going to be an option for Grigs. He either makes the team or will return to Russia. Of course I could be making all this up...

We can't sign that tyrant! He'll get so many penalties and suspensions with that rowdy attitude! What the wings really need is a good aged veteran whose winding down.

Thank God. And with this being the year that Pronger starts going downhill (at a very rapid rate, I might add), the Wings will have little problem shoving them aside to win the cup. Bertuzzi and Schneider won't be invited to the after parties. Getzlaf, however, will be invited.

I think its his way of saying "I want the Wings to pick me up!"
-
What team do you think is going to give the wings the most trouble this year? I think Anaheim is a shoe-in, for obvious reasons, but I'm willing to bet the Blues are going to give us some trouble this year, also. I believe we split the season with them last year (plus or minus a game or so), and they've only gotten better since then. Thats not to say we aren't the better team overall, but I think they're in a position to fight some victories out of us if we don't take them seriously.

Tis fine. And I agree. Where I disagree though is that its a huge problem, and I think thats as close to each other on the subject that we're going to get

My original response was in reference to our physicality, and nothing else. When you responded to my original post by "But we didn't hold our own, hence we didn't win the Cup", I took that as "we weren't physical enough, hence we didn't win the cup", as I was talking strictly about our physicality when I said we can hold our own. I support my arguments regularly and I also didn't say anything about "panic-mode". I believe you're mistaken me with someone else (which actually has been happening a lot, lately). I agree wholeheartedly. However, the whole point of checking someone is to (a) separate them from the puck and (b) intimidate them for future occasions. The only thing a "huge" hit gives that normal "Lebda taps" can't give is a bigger ego, and is really irrelevant to the game if you aren't going to be intimidated. Any type of decent check (not necessarily the "Pronger" checks) can achieve the first point, and we proved in the playoffs last year that we aren't going to be intimidated. Yes it would be nice to have a "big hitter" or an enforcer on the team, but I think they achieve a lot more in inspiration than anything else. imo to have a big hitter for big hits' sake is an irrelevant luxury in the new nhl.

In Yahoo answers someone asked a question about if you've ever been to an arena besides from your hometown, and what the experience was like. The best answer was chosen to this fellow, and his response: "Now to answer your question- I've been to the Joe Louis Arena to see a Red Wings/Stars game when I was in high school. I was the only person in the entire building wearing a Stars jersey, yet was not harrassed for it. In fact, the section I was sitting with spent the bulk of the game talking hockey with me. I enjoyed the game and the arena in general. It was the only time I saw Yzerman and the Wings play live. Great stuff." Give yourselves a round of applause guys. I love reading stories like this

I don't believe the wings became physical because Markov or Bertuzzi was on the team. They were physical because they had to be to survive in the playoffs. Markov didn't dish the first hit out. Bertuzzi didn't either. Everyone came out hitting at once, and everyone was taken completely by surprise from the Flames to the media. I'm sure Babcock gave a huge spiel about how the wings need to play with physicality if they expect to go anywhere. And they did. Furthermore, the Wings didn't loose the playoffs because they "weren't" physical. Actually I believe we outhit Anaheim in that series (but don't quote me on that). We had that series in the bag, anyone will tell you that. We were up 2 to 1 in the series, almost 3 to 1, but they got a fluky goal off of Lidstrom's stick (not related to physical play, mind you), and a fluky fanned pass from Lilja which happened to fly right to Selanne right in front of our net (also unrelated to how physical we were playing). Someone else mentioned that our special teams sucked. That also killed us. We gave up numerous 5 on 3 advantages which could've easily put the series away. We never capitalized. Simple as that.

My old coach was actually a financial advisor for many of the wings, and he lived a couple houses down from Stevie. Well at our end of the year party our coach told us all to bring something that we would want autographed by the captain, and even though we knew it was coming, it was still kind of hard to believe that Yzerman was actually going to be at our hockey party. Sure enough we were all downstairs playing pool and our coach comes down and says "Guys, I'd like to introduce you to someone." Stevie was right behind him. Hes a really nice guy, signed all our memorabilia and told stories and whatnot, but I have to say he seems like a really shy guy in real life.

How did we loose 50 votes in a matter of hours?? They're unstoppable!!
