I'm guessing you didn't see the playoffs either. Schneider, Markov, and Bertuzzi weren't the only ones out there hitting. Dan Cleary rattled Phaneuf. Datsyuk knocked someone on his ass. A couple times, actually. Zetterberg was rushing into the corners with ferocity. Lebda was hitting. The Paintrain was giving out free tickets. Chelios was dishing out some good hits. Everyone was being physical and not letting themselves get intimidated. Do we have an overtly physical team? No. Do we get into fights regularly? Not by any means. Can we hold our own with the best of them if the time calls for it? Theres no doubt.

You can definetly vote more than once, i just did for a second time. Although I think it may be limited to once a day

204, we cut the deficit by 100. keep up the good work

I have to hand it to them; those kids have some of the greatest spirit i've seen this past decade. They take what they get and fly with it. I just hope it doesn't let up now that they're getting more minutes

He says that but its really that he can't aim

Oddly enough that doesn't eliminate any of the top prospects for him anyway

http://sports.yahoo.com/nhl/rumors/post/Li...F?urn=nhl,41459 Interesting that they listed Detroit first (for whatever thats worth), but what do they mean by "good sized contract"? 6+ million? 4+ million? I think we'd take him for 4 million but I don't know how much farther we'd go...

The first star of this game goes to Fernando Rodney Second goes to Jones Third goes to whoever hit that line drive

That double play really saved us. Why didn't Leland just keep Zumaya in?? A couple 1-2-3 innings and were done.
-
The Hawks? Really? They haven't given us "trouble" in 2 years. If anything, they bail us outof trouble. I'm interested to see how the Avs will play this year. They were the hottest team to close the regular season last year, and they have gotten much better since then.

I expect this is going to cause alot of debate. Perhaps you didn't see the playoffs last year

Grigs isn't supposed to be lazy and suck...

Hes working with Cheli's trainer?? That kid is doomed.

Yeah, I'm trying to rank up to 100 but after the first 20 it gets quite difficult.

http://sports.yahoo.com/nhl/rumors/post/Ma...F?urn=nhl,43564 Although I'm absolutely positive the Pens aren't going to win the cup this year, I'm still not sure how I feel about Markov joining up with them...

pssh. Pens schmens. The Rangers will kill them. So will the Sens.

Hilarious NHL billboards (response to Dallas)

Depending on how well he does in the training camp and the first few games etc, its my understanding that he could have a permanent spot somewhere on line 1 or 2, or he could end up being a 13th forward type. But don't quote me on that.

With the 07' 08' season almost upon us, I thought it would be fun to rate and compare this year's teams. Unfortunately not all of us are up to date on every team so I'm kinda hoping this becomes a team effort and many people contribute here and there to what they know, and as always, debating other people's opinions are quite welcome. So out out of a maximum of 5 points and a minimum of 0, lets have the categories go as follows: Offense (rate the teams' overall offensive ability) Defense (overall defensive ability) Goaltending (both no. 1 and 2 (and 3), and their skills in the crease) Physicality (laying the body; not necessarily getting penalties) Powerplay (self explanatory) Penaltykilling (self explanatory) Clutch (How good does the team do under the pressure of dwindling minutes) Coaching (Is the man behind the bench leading the team right?) Detroit Red Wings Offense: 4 Defense: 5 Goaltending: 4 Physicality: 2 Powerplay: 4 Penaltykilling: 4 Clutch: 5 Coaching: 5

The difference between Lidstrom and Lilja is the plethora of Norris trophies, Stanley cups, the 'C' on his jersey and a handful of other awards, and even with his bad pinch, Lidstrom's game isn't whats in question. Lilja is not as good a defensman as Schneider. Schneider had twice the +/- that Lilja had, and if I recall correctly, Lilja didn't even play the entire season as a full-time Wing, although I may be mistaken. Lilja was the forum whipping boy last year for much of the regular season, and for good reason. Yes he has improved (I was quite shocked for the most part at his play in the postseason), but its insane to consider him a better defensive player than Schneider.

The margin of difference between our defense and the Ducks, imo, is on such a small margin that there won't be any noticeable differences on the ice. Someone could scrape up an argument for either side. nice pun I agree wholeheartedly that its too soon to be giving our young stars the trophies just yet and also that we need a top 6 forward, but I have to disagree with you in that we can replace Calder, Bertuzzi, and Lang for the most part with younger guys. Hudler had proven to us that he can score given the right ice time, and Franzen (although hardly a reliable scorer) is continuing to look more comfortable deep in the opposition's zone. As much as I hate Sammuelson, I believe he will pick up the slack, and Grigorenko will be fighting for a spot on the lineup, so its in his best interest to fulfill his scouting reports in that he is a goal-scorer and play-maker. Which, by the way, on a Russian prospects site, Grigs name was rated up there with Malkin's. You're kidding, right? Wasn't it Lilja that turned the puck over to Selanne of all people, right in front of our net, of all places, in an overtime Western Conference Finals game, of all times? He may've cost us the Stanley Cup

The wings did the best in clutch situations last year, and besides I want this to be a thread on predictions for the upcoming year. But not just for the wings, any team out there. St. Louis Blues Offense: 3 Defense: 2 Goaltending: 3 Physicality: 3 Powerplay: 2 Penaltykilling: 2 Clutch: 1 Coaching: 5 although we're arguably the better team, I sense the Blues may end up giving us some difficulties this year. If they keep rebuilding and add a couple veteran players between this year and next year we may just have a little fun in the Central division. Besides, Paul Karaya's best games are against the Wings

...well the Kings weren't going to make the playoffs this year anyway

Its easy to be a positional goalie with the defensive line up he has. Most of the shots that opponents get are from the outside and with a lot of traffic to block prime shooting angles. He didn't look so good in game 3 when his defense didn't show up.
