How many rinks have you been to so far
-
From what I've read through the forums I don't believe there are many folks who think Zetterberg is completely healthy, myself included, although its a bit confusing that he wouldn't be resting if he wasn't 100% considering how conservative the Wings have been this season with regard to injuries. Having said that, Franzen and Nyquist are also both in cold spells, and when nobody on the line is taking charge, everyone's going to suffer all the more because of that. But like you said, Babcock can hardly break the lines up, because production has been solid throughout the other three lines, and at the very least the Zetterberg line hasn't been a liability defensively, so if Z, Nyquist, and Franzen can break even, Babcock still has two (sometimes three) other lines to carry the offensive burden, at least for now. Perhaps when Abdelkader comes back he can be put into that line to get a spark going, or if Zetterberg is injured perhaps the team will be more inclined to rest Z up at that point.

I'm curious why you ranked the Wings so low compared to the Western Conference teams.

I think the glory of the name usually follows the glory of the individual after a successful career. If Konstantinov was a soft lanky defensman who only played 10 games in the NHL, our heart-rates probably wouldn't rise today when we hear his name. Similarly, if Abdelkader had a career of taking down NHL heavyweights with one punch, and scoring goals, and wreaking havoc in the playoffs, I think his name would mean something quite different than it does to us now.

The article I read says his grandpa was from Jordan. A buddy of mine who went to high school with him told me he's Lebanese. I don't know for sure, but it's still a cool story behind a unique name.

Abdelkader comes from Abdul Qadir, which was the name of his grandfather before it was Americanized.

Everything about this sentence is blowing my mind

Good lord. I get they're fast, but how do you give up a 2 on 0 in a professional league

Well I never

Jolly good show chaps. Capital work. That Mr. Datsyuk makes me think my monocle is in want of cleaning.

Do we need a trade to get our offence going ?

If Morin can't break the Blackhawks lineup, I don't think he'd fare much better in Detroit. -
This is Mantha's first experience playing against men. Its going to take him a while to adapt to not being the strongest guy on the ice, where he could overpower the opposition to a 50 goal season.

I don't know if he's just been hot or if its the way he plays (seeing as how our sample size of the guy is so small), but he always seems to be in the right spot offensively. Its not like the goals or assists he's contributing are awesome shots, or dekeing out a defender, or threading a needle for a tape to tape pass. He's just there. And then all of a sudden the puck is there with him. And then all of a sudden the puck is in the net. Not that I'm complaining. Its awesome to see someone who just may know how to play effectively in the grimey area in front of the net (it seems like all his points have come from within 5 feet of the net), and in the mean time, you can see his confidence is soaring out there. Every game he looks better than the game before. I'm super excited that this signing is finally looking like its working out.

You know, at first I was thinking there's no way in hell the Oilers would want a player like Kindl on their team. And then I look at Justin Bourne's systems analyst of how Justin Shultz, the pariah that the Wings supposedly missed out on a few years ago plays in the defensive zone (link here: http://www.thescore.com/nhl/news/648986), and I start to wonder whether even Kindl could be a difference-maker there. At the very least Kindl knows how to play positional hockey. Anyway, it also makes me wonder whether Shultz would even be in the lineup if he was with Detroit. Babcock doesn't exactly have a reputation for tolerating defensive gaffes. Although I'm probably being overly critical of Shultz, seeing as how I'm basing the majority of his defensive ability on this one play. I don't watch the Oilers so if anyone who has more experience with how he (or they collectively) play, feel free to chime in.

The Wings are 4-1-0 against the West this year, all against teams currently in playoff positions. Their only loss came against Anaheim at the beginning of the year.
-
For as many goals as Nyquist has put up this year, it seems like he's invisible if the Wings aren't on the power play.

lol that reminded me of this:

Do we need a trade to get our offence going ?

I don't know, and I don't really like coming up with a proposal because I have no idea what the Coyotes are asking for in real life, or what Holland has already offered and been refused. I guess if I was the Coyotes I would be looking for young talent and picks, but also wanting to replace the loss of Yandle with someone who can play nhl defense right now. The Wings also might have to make room for Yandle's caphit (I don't know for sure I'm on my phone so scrolling between here and capgeek isn't convenient right now), which means we would have to move a higher priced piece if that's the case. Pulkinen could be their young goal-scorer, one of Oulette, Jensen, Marchenko, Sproul, because we don't have room for all of them, and I do believe all of them are capable of having NHL careers. I would be willing to move Ericsson, Kindl, Quincey, or Lashoff, although the Coyotes would probably want Ericsson or Quincey to help fill the void left by Yandle. Anyone from our bottom six I could also part with, because we can replace them easily enough. Some combination of the above. Maybe Pulkkinen, Ericsson, and Marchenko. I don't know if that's sweet enough to move Yandle, though. -

With how poorly the Coyotes have been doing this year, I wouldn't be suprised to see some parts moved (including Yandle) at the deadline. And I would be willing to move several pieces including Pulkkinen to bring Yandle in. -
Yeah, there's a bunch of buildings in Detroit that are without power at the moment... http://www.mlive.com/redwings/index.ssf/2014/12/detroit_power_outage_derails_r.html#incart_river

Thanks! So according to capgeek, Pulkkinen is the only one who loses his waiver exemption status next year. Additionally, Ferraro, Callahan, Aubry, Miele, McCollum, and Porter are currently not waiver exempt. Does this sound correct? -

Is there a website that I can go to which will show me when our prospects are out of minor league options and have to go through waivers to be sent down? Or do any of you happen to already know? -
