GDT 2/26 GDT - Red Wings 2 at Canadiens 1 (OT)
Echolalia replied to MabusIncarnate's topic in General
*stops in to say hi* Sup guys, go Wings! ...Where'd all this confetti come from? -
I can't speak for everyone but I wasn't pissed at Sammy last year for being injured, so much as I was pissed at Holland for signing him. And I was pissed about the signing mostly because I didn't think Sammy had anything left in the tank that our prospects couldn't beat. Last year there was no way to validate my hypothesis so I didn't really have any beef . This year Sammy has been abysmal despite being healthy; much worse than I was even expecting. All in all I think the flak Sammuelson gets is warranted. Weiss has also sucked this year, although it seems like he's been trying to adapt to being a Red Wing with a sports hernia (or whatever he had, I'm too lazy to fact check). Taking that into consideration, the bad numbers seem somewhat justified. The guy is in the prime of his career and has a proven record of being successful so I'm willing to see what he can do to close out this season with a (hopefully now) healthy body and get us into the playoffs before I cast any judgment.

The Islanders just got that much more unbeatable to the Red Wings.

Its definitely not written as fact, but if you want to interpret it as fact there's probably little any of us can do to convince you otherwise. It was also written in July, not after the first round of the playoffs ended, and the thread link that you posted demonstrated that many of us at LGW also took the tweet by HSJ to be rumor and not a very valid one at that. Helene St. James was attempting to fill in the blanks and its sloppy journalism (although its tough to call anything tweeted as journalism). I don't believe she (or anyone) has published any references or quotes from Holland or any Detroit Red Wings upper management which suggests they passed on Bobby Ryan because of laziness, lackluster performance, or any of a handful of reasons we can speculate on. When it comes to rumors like this or any type of sports journalism, sometimes its best to ignore what the author of the piece adds in, and just sift through for quotes directly from Red Wings staff or other official personnel. I can't tell you how many times I've read an article with a certain slant on a story, only to find out that it was entirely embellished or interpreted or what-have-you by the writer of the piece, and the athletes', or coaches', or general managers' words were taken either intentionally or unintentionally out of context. Unfortunately there's a lot of slant forming that occurs here and on other forums as well, sometimes from otherwise entirely unbiased and honest journalism, and that can snowball into serious rumors. Anyway, that's my advice. You're free to do with it what you want.

Wow that is an awesome play. Kudos to whomever drew that one up!

Facts and common sense say the Wings have a 99.9% chance of not winning the Cup?

It's trendy to hate on Franzen. All the cool kids are doing it.

Official 2014 Olympic Hockey Thread (Admin warning #316)
Echolalia replied to MabusIncarnate's topic in General
Is there anywhere at all to check out highlights of the Olympic Games?? -
Which is a kinda funny poetic justice if you believe the heresay that Sammuelson faked injury in the offseason to avoid being waived. "No, I'm still hurt."

Never chirp another player's flow

I literally JUST learned about strokes in my neuro class (also concussions but that's for another thread)... Exam is on Monday! Anyway, strokes are essentially when certain parts of the brain don't get enough blood flow and those cells which are affected die. Most people generally associate strokes with losing muscle movement/sensation on half the body and/or disruption in speech, and that usually occurs when a particular artery (called the middle cerebral artery) becomes compromised. But strokes can exhibit themselves in many different ways, depending on what part of the brain is affected. In Letang's case, having a patent foramen ovale introduces irregular blood flow mechanics and may allow a clot to form and bypass the lungs. The article mentions dizziness as one of his symptoms which is common with strokes that occur from occlusion or hemmorhage to the vertebrobasillar artery. This artery supplies the brainstem, cerebellum and visual cortex, so it would seem that the clot that formed (assuming that's even what happened) traveled to the back of the brain/brainstem where motor coordination, vision, and a few other things are regulated, and impeded blood flow to these areas. I can't speak for Letang's case specifically, but it is common to also experience double vision, difficulty swallowing, as well as disequilibrium and vertigo for vertebrobasillar artery strokes (just in case any of you experience one in the future you know now what to look for). The article mentioned that he would be back on the ice though, so that's certainly good news. Strokes are serious business.

WE WILL WIN ALL THE STANLEY CUPS
-
Considering how badly the Wings have been playing up until recently, and the fact that they're struggling to maintain a wildcard playoff position... if they can win against Tampa Bay on Saturday, they will be going into the Olympic Break within three points of them for 2nd place in the Atlantic Division. Toronto and Montreal both currently have four points on us, but they've also played more games (and we play Montreal the first game after Olympics). Hopefully they can come out out they Olympic break healthy and ready to go. If they can put the injury bug behind them, I don't think finishing 2nd in the Atlantic is lofty by any means.

Eaves just for the shootout if nothing else

Was Datsyuk ever placed on LTIR during this injury?
-
By that vague of a definition, any player comparison could easily be construed to be a double standard. I can't speak for everybody, but I'm personally not giving Weiss the benefit of the doubt because he's coming off an injury plagued season. I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt because I think the sports hernia/groin issues have been a consistent issue since he's been a Wing, and I don't think we have seen Weiss play a game yet healthy.

Sheahan's line is always fun to watch

Well deserved. It's amazing how his play jumped after he found out he can still make the Olympic squad. I hope he can hang onto that confidence and drive

They should have waited a couple more days to announce it. The kid has been unstoppable since that roster spot opened up.

Aflac is back?? I gotta participate in this GDT then

This is off-topic but I want to point out how awesome this response is. Instead of getting all internet-tough by slinging remarks back and forth, you cordially apologize and move on. The internet needs more classy folks like you. To contribute to the topic at hand: I don't think refs have a bias (or try to, at least) for or against any team. Sometimes they get the right calls, and sometimes they don't. It usually balances out in the end.
