It definitely is what the show is all about, however it behooves the HBO crew to comply when someone feels they are intruding too much. Good relationships between cameramen and hockey personnel = hockey personnel more willing to allow HBO cameras into their lives. Bad relationships = less cooperation. Its a bummer that Babs and Carlyle kicked out the cameras, but good on the cameramen to not press the issue.

http://www.mlive.com/redwings/index.ssf/2013/12/red_wings_stephen_weiss_will_h.html Weiss will take the surgery and is scheduled to return after the Olympic break. The article mentions he has had experienced groin pain dating to last season, so this has been a problem for some time.

Ilitch reveals plan for new $450m, 18,000-seat Red Wings arena
Echolalia replied to Ally's topic in General
I think the most likely option is for the Joe to be demolished, so Cobo Hall can expand into that area. -
Do the surgery now. There shouldn't even be another option. Weiss is ineffective while playing with a sports hernia. Give him plenty of time to rest and recuperate, and hopefully this can provide him with an opportunity to start from scratch and try to get his body and mind where he wants it to be before he returns to the lineup. The contract is for several years, let's do this the right way.

We can look at wins, Stanley Cups, gold metals etc, but I think last year's cup run was really a testament to Babs' coaching skills. That roster had no business competing for the Stanley Cup and they eliminated the heavily-favorited Ducks and sent the Cup-winning team to OT of game 7.

Dabura's point still stands that uprooting his family would have a big role on Alfie's decision. Its been made apparent recently by HBO's 24/7 that the transition wasn't all that smooth for the family. I think the two most likely destinations for him are Detroit and Ottawa, assuming he doesn't retire to Sweden.

It didn't look malicious and that type of play (minus the results, at least) happens 30 times in a game. It looked like Getzlaf was caught just as he was shifting his weight, and unfortunately Quincey got him during that split second.

You should use some of that high school logic you seem to be so full of and reevaluate my post, as well as your own OP. I don't care if Lapierre took liberties before, during, or after Downey's response, and based on your premise that an enforcer's presence prevents injuries, you shouldn't either. You asked us all a question in the title of this thread, "Why the Red Wings get injured." You immediately follow that up in the first sentence of your OP with "Because they have no legitimate enforcer." Your argument can then be summed up as 'enforcers prevent injury'. High school reasoning. You also said in your OP that "If there were enforcers, teams would think twice before laying the hits on star players." Again, that reinforces your assertion that the presence of an enforcer would prevent injuries to Red Wings. Downey was dressed and actively used during the game when Lapierre hit and injured Lidstrom; ie Downey the enforcer was present. Based on that example (one which you actually brought forth to the discussion), it is clear that your argument that an enforcer's presence prevents injury is effectively refuted. Downey was present. Lidstrom still got injured. As for the fight providing momentum and sending a message to the Avs, again I invite you to reread your original post as well as mine. We aren't discussing momentum-shifts or message sending. I never mentioned it. Your OP never mentioned it. That is not the topic of this thread, and if you were interested in discussing that as the premise of your argument, you should have made that clear in your OP. I expect better from someone who is so competent in high-school level logic to bring up irrelevant points to the subject as a response to my retort. It's as Kip mentioned in the first page: you keep changing your tune. Now, if you want to discuss whether the utilization of an enforcer shifts momentum or sends messages to the opposition, you're more than welcome to make a separate thread on those topics, assuming LGW can stomach yet another enforcer thread. But whatever you do, don't bog this already shallow thread down with multiple topics of discussion. Lets stick with injury prevention.
-
I'm lost. What exactly is your guys' point? Because I thought the point of this thread was that the presence of an enforcer prevents injuries, based on the title of the thread and the OP's first sentence/response to his own question. In the case of Downey and Lappierre, Downey's presence did nothing to stop Lidstrom from getting hurt. Now if the point has changed mid-thread to "enforcers fight other players after the damage has already been done", well I can't argue with that. Downey fought Lapierre after Lidstrom got hurt, and then the hockey game continued on.
-
....so Downey's presence didn't prevent someone from taking liberties with our star defensman. Hmmm. So then enforcers don't prevent players from getting injured. Got it!

@NOTHeleneStJames: Cleary did not score on the play
-
I think he's legit hurt. It would make more sense to use the valuable call-up to bring up a forward (particularly a center) seeing as how Zetterberg, Weiss, and Helm are all injured.

Weiss goes down yet they move Z to LTIR to call up Mrazek.... that's not a good sign.

Injured Weiss, out Thursday (apparent groin/ab issue)
Echolalia replied to DatsyukToZetterberg's topic in General
Hopefully this is a good news kinda thing, not in the sense that Weiss is temporarily removed from the lineup, but in the sense that maybe Weiss has been trying to tough it out through an injury, and that may explain why he's been light on the puck and quick to pass to someone else when he does have possession. Slump or no slump, Weiss' performance has not been typical of an NHL player. If he has been playing through a groin injury, maybe a few weeks of rest will bring some spunk back to his game. -
Why does this team sleepwalk against bottom feeders?
Echolalia replied to unsaddleddonald's topic in General
I guess the Wings just like taking it from the bottom. -
And then there are other times when teams ride their backup to the Stanley Cup, ala Osgood in 2008. I get what you're saying and it's a valid thought, but right now we might have been well out of playoff contention if not for Gus' ability to step in when Jimmy needed him to. He is actively demonstrating value to this team and keeping us competitive in the standings, and I think it would be quite risky to trade that type of insurance away.

I wonder what kind of bath towels Alfredsson uses

Bahahaha that better make it to the show

The reference itself is a joke because folks are using it as a rallying cry against Holland supposedly refusing to incorporate youth into the team. In reality, Holland saying kids are not the answer was specifically in response to whether Jurco would get called up to the Wings and contribute offensively. Most people seem to not realize this.

The stuff that he said about his time in Columbus made it seem like he likes to blame others and make excuses for why he isn't playing. After reading that I had a harder time believing his side of the story of his time in Detroit. I also don't remember him standing out when he played. But who knows.

Every single season the Wings have injury problems like this. Excellent prediction...
-
Based on the skillset the hockey gods are targeting, Alfie or Kronwall is definitely next
-
If someone doesn't go to LTIR we have to play with 11 forwards.... Right??
-
I think it was more because of his lack of hustle, heart, grit, effort, etc. but the stupid offensive zone penalty was certainly icing on the cake. I've been defending this guy all season but the past few games he's not even trying out there. Is he even breaking a sweat out there? He looked like he was so close to breaking out before his injury but it really looks like Weiss gave up.
