eva unit zero 271 Report post Posted March 7, 2007 Make that one physical forward, eva. Calder is not a bone crusher, sure. But he is gritty, and uses his size and strength to do things players like Williams don't/can't do. Such as carry the puck right to the front of the net. Physical means a guy wh odoesn't shy from contact, is gritty, and can dish it out. Calder is all of those things. No, he's not going to lead the league in hits or put someone through the boards. But he' not going to avoid the opportunity to lay a hit as standard procedure either. Another example of why physical is not the same as 'hitter': I bet you consider Bootland physical, and Hudler not. Yet in tonight's game, Hudler outhit Bootland 3-0, and had the check of the game. Chew on that for a while.
Wings_Fan_In_Exile 3 Report post Posted April 25, 2007 I've never really seen Doan do anything gritty, He is a big scoring winger. Not a tough physical gritty one. Anyway, doesn't matter he won't be going anywhere... Yeah, I'm dragging up an old topic, but I just had to throw it out there since I'm a Shane Doan fan. He does actually have a pretty tough, physical, gritty side to his game. Definately a power forward. He just doesn't get much attention since he plays in Arizona where hockey stays very low on the radar. I would have loved to see him in a Red Wings jersey... There are better fighters and hitters out there, but he definately has a physical game.
