One Line Wins

Rate this topic

This team, mainly the first line, is doing what it should be doing- hopefully it continues.
If the first line doesnt score, Detroit loses. That's not a recipe for success in the playoffs, especially for an organization who's philosophy has been built on scoring depth. If you think status quo for the 2nd line is even remotely close to acceptable,, be prepared to be let down come April. Edited by RedRum #1

NEWS FLASH : WE HAVE A GREAT TEAM. WE HAVE THE MOST REGULATION TIME WINS IN THE NHL.

just wait till the playoffs and relax.

You made me laugh! (Also I did not know that about the regulation W's.)

I'd just add: so uhhh......in this thread.....uhhhhh, are we bitching about the fact that the Red Wings have a great first line that produces goals and wins games? GAH!

Only in Detroit.

Football season is OVER people. You're officially allowed to watch your team WIN now. Grab a beer and cheer.

aloha

P.S. just occurred to me that this LGW.com thing would've been an absolute blast back in the late 70's and 80's.

Sorry, but the facts and stats of this season tell a completely different story. When Datsyuk and Zetterberg started off the season slowly, Cleary and Lang were lighting it up. We also have some pretty good defensemen that can put the puck in the net that you may have heard of. Detroit has had various players/lines step it up when the team needed them to. To counteract your argument, if Datsyuk and Zetterberg aren't scoring like this (see last year), be prepared to be let down in April.

I think the playoffs will add a completely different factor then we've seen so far:

1st line- still scoring and doing well, but clamped down hard by the other team's defenders

2nd line- mixed up, but even if not changed around we still know that Lang brings it in the playoffs and Cleary's a really hard worker who hasn't won a cup, thus he should be pretty motivated

3rd & 4th lines- our Huds and Flips are still fantastic players and I'd expect to see some points from them in the playoffs be it by sheer force of will or simply because their relative position in the lineup makes them likely to be underestimated or at least underdefended by the opposition.

Defence- Lids is not to be trifled with- if the team is struggling during the playoffs we can count on Lids to pepper the enemy net :)

Roger that. I do indeed try to expand and utilize my vast vocabulary wherever and whenever possible. I will add 'exta' to that vast database. Is this a synonym for 'extra'?

You can count on my intelligence, yes sir-- solutions will be forthcoming. However, they will be held back from you, as the complexity would cause your head to explode.

Dude, I have to be honest here... I just can't get over how much you are ragging on me for my statement. I guess I thought that ideas whether they had solutions or not were allowed to be discussed in this forum.

If you would like to be able to say that you defeated me with your superior logic and went easy on me so my head wouldn't explode, you win. I have been bested.

Thank you for showing the error of my ways.

That's exactly my point in all of this...

To anyone who actually watched that game last night or happened to watch the Philly game, one thing is glaringly apparent: We need someone else to contribute on a semi-regular basis other than the Z, Dats & Homer line.

We have a great team, but I find it funny how quickly some people forget where a great REGULAR SEASON TEAM gets you in the PLAYOFFS. Nowhere.

How do you figure that if Detroit's 1st line doesn't score, they lose? Do you remember the first two months of the season when the first line did NOTHING, and other players picked up the slack? Lets not ignore the facts here. You keep bringing up the Philly game- that was one of their worst games this year- every team has them

I am not saying that if Z's line doesn't score we lose... I am saying that in the playoffs when things tighten up, having to rely on one line will not work. When the Wings have contended for the Cup, balanced scoring was a key ingredient to success. Obviously great team defense, goaltending, special teams and timely goals are all a part of the success too, but we need Lang, Williams, Cleary, Draper, Hudler, etc. to chip in from time to time.

I only brought up Philly once by the way.
