BringHomeTheCup! 0 Report post Posted April 2, 2007 Here is a question that just burns in my brain. During EVERY interview about the potential playoff matchups, the interviewee states 'There is no team that we want to play. Every team is a great team. Blah blah blah...' Is anyone else sick of hearing this answer? If this were the true answer, then why bother fighting so hard right now to get that top seed? It makes no logical sense. Seriouly, would you rather face Vancouver or Dallas? Calgary or San Jose? There has to be some preferance. If for no other reason than how your teams stacks up on paper against each team. For instance, I wouldn't mind facing San Jose, I know they have had our number during hte regular season, but that is due to in great deal, getting so many power play chances. In the playoffs, they are going to get 12 chances a game.
Hockey13Playa 240 Report post Posted April 2, 2007 oh my lord. How many threads relating playoff oppenents and matchups do we need. I am about to go crazzzzzy
Zion 93 Report post Posted April 2, 2007 Go crazy. Better yet, be a man and suck it up. The Wings have a lot to prove. I still don't think they are a playoff team, despite having Hasek in goal, the best defense I've ever seen for this team, and some great pick-ups in Kyle Calder and Todd Bertuzzi. I'm still convinced that this team will never win a Stanley Cup as long as Robert Lang is on the roster. That being said, we need to avoid San Jose like the plague. chrisdetroit 189 Report post Posted April 2, 2007 What are you talking about? You make no sense here. Please clarify. I'm with you. This guy is nuts. Hasek is playing like one of the top goaltenders in the league, he said this is the best defense we ever had. What's missing? Goal scoring is down, but not that much. It doesn't add up. What's not to like?
Zion 93 Report post Posted April 2, 2007 It's been said before, but we just don't play well in Northwestern Canada. We can't face Vancouver (and obviously Edmonton) in the first round, but Calgary's fast, physical play has, and will probably, beat us.
IceMunkee 15 Report post Posted April 2, 2007 Threads, Threads, Threads. It never ceases to amaze me that by the title you can clearly tell what the thread will be about yet you still open it just to complain about the thread!!!! Hasek is playing great. I am not a huge fan of him but I love him. Very strange relationship there. He is no doubt playing well and the last time he was healthy for the playoffs he won so here's hopin. The only concern I have is the Loungo and Kips are playing great as well and we have always had problems with Kips! Our offense has been questionable but good the last 2 games. We definitly have a "playoff" team unlike what the manly man up there said. I am geeked and excited for playoff's! I would love to play Minnasota or Dallas first for travel reasons. I would rather not face Calgary in the first round.

I still don't think they are a playoff team, despite having Hasek in goal, the best defense I've ever seen for this team, and some great pick-ups in Kyle Calder and Todd Bertuzzi. The wings do have a lot to prove, but I wouldn't consider them out of hope for another stanley cup. If you're competing for the Presidents Trophy you will always be a contender for the cup. Always. Besides, what we've been lacking in past postseasons (grit and size) we have this year. Cups aren't won on pretty goals alone, and the team has definitely realized that by now, seeing as how they picked Calder and Bertuzzi to compliment our team. I'm still convinced that this team will never win a Stanley Cup as long as Robert Lang is on the roster. Robert Lang has a pretty good history in the playoffs, and has been a pretty solid player aside from this single year. That being said, we need to avoid San Jose like the plague. Every team thats in the playoffs right now is within like 10 points of each other. I really don't think it matters much who we verse if you're measuring by skill alone. The cup this year will be won with hunger

You know, if our teams worst problem was having Lang in the lineup, ... We would have an 81-0-1 record. Tons of bigger problems. For all the Lang haters ... you can rest, we all know odds are he will be gone after this season. Even though we haven't won cups since his arrival a few years back, Lang has played exceptionally well in his Playoff stints with the wings.
