As much as everyone has a doubt with him not coming back, he will be wearing a wings jersey next season. Kenny tends to have a soft heart when it comes to players like that, he will sign him for a low priced contract. I don't think Maltby would want to play anywhere else either. Never_Retire_Steve 35 Report post Posted April 4, 2007 I think it's sad that in the last few years we will have lost Yzerman, Shanahan, two thirds of the grind line, and pretty much the heart and soul of the Red Wings from the dynasty days of 97-2002, but I can't see Maltby coming back
Hockey13Playa 240 Report post Posted April 4, 2007 well i guess we'll have to wait and see Yeah I guess we will. I am pretty confident with my theory. I think he'll be back. Not saying I want him back, but Kenny will keep him. If not, I will be really surprised. I wish he could pick up his game like how he played in the late 90's. But that isn't going to happen. Yeah that would be nice, and scored some goals would be nice too.. I guess i wouldn't mind him coming back if it was for a cheap price
Hockey13Playa 240 Report post Posted April 4, 2007 We have younger and less expensive Maltby's in our organization now And who would these younger "Maltby's" be? Yeah that would be nice, and scored some goals would be nice too.. I guess i wouldn't mind him coming back if it was for a cheap price Yeah, thats why I have that theory, he knows he isn't the best hockey player, and his heart is with Detroit, so he would be more then happy to stay for a cheap contract. And hey, for some reason he tends to get hot in the playoffs every now and then, as long as we go deep!

Hockey13Playa 240 Report post Posted April 4, 2007 As far as drop the gloves and fight, won't happen. Mixing up, pushing, trash talking, he does that. I always seem him in the middle of things when hes on the ice.

Under a million and I am totally satisfied, He would accept that hopefully.

Hockey13Playa 240 Report post Posted April 4, 2007 yeah that would be nice, and im sure at his age its not about the money since he's not a sniper Another point to my reason, hes made his money, he doesn't play for the money, but for the love of the game. (Well so one would assume) So I can totally see him signing for a cheap contract like I said, just to stay with Detroit. Not like the market is going to all be wanting Maltby anyways

Yzermania19 1 Report post Posted April 4, 2007 (edited) Me too, I want him to finish his career as a Wing, anywhere else would be weird. Under a million and I am totally satisfied, He would accept that hopefully. I hope he will be back, but I'm not sure. He still has value as a disturber and a PP guy, plus he can chip in for the odd goal, but what has he really done this year to earn a new contract? If he can be brought back for under $1 million, like Wingslogo said, that would be good. Hopefully he (and his agent) doesn't have an overinflated sense of his worth to the team and demand big money. As for the guys from the "glory days" of 97, 98 and 02 leaving bit by bit, that's bound to happen. We have to let go of these guys sometime. They're all going to be gone eventually (well, except for Chelios. LOL). Sad but true...there is going to come a time, probably in the next five years, when there will not be one Wing on the team that was here for the 97 Cup. I mean, it's already been 10 years and we still have Draper, Maltby, Osgood, Lidstrom and Holmstrom. When you think about it, that's pretty good - five guys from a championship won 10 years ago are still on the team today. Hockey13Playa 240 Report post Posted April 4, 2007 Yeah that's a good reason, im glad we came together on this Of course, most deffinetly! so in that case, KENNY SIGN MALTBY, had to throw that in there for all the "Kenny get it done" sayings. Edit: I cant spell the word deffiently correct if my life depended on it! I hope he will be back, but I'm not sure. THat "old gramps" as Mickey called him today during the game. It is bound to happen yes, but its hard letting go of a player like that, that I grew up watching, and having been a part of your three Stanley Cup Runs. So I guess we will have to see what Kenny and Maltby, and his agent are all thinking come this summer.

Hockey13Playa 240 Report post Posted April 4, 2007 Kenny will wait till playoffs are over to re-sign his players Well yes, I know that, I just had to throw that in for a laugh. I hope all this Maltby talk brings him a good fortune for the Wings and his playoff run!
HockeyCrazy3033 168 Report post Posted April 4, 2007 I'd be shocked if he weren't a Wing next season. Despite his not so great seasons, he's still an asset to the team. Well at least I think so! Especially when the playoffs roll around. Honestly..that's what's going to make or break him getting signed, the playoffs.
