Why oh why is the game BLACKED OUT?

FOr some &%*$@ reason, in Los Angeles, the Anaheim / Vancouver game is blacked out.

The cable people don't know a thing. So I tried to get the game online, and succeeded, thanks to this following post.

This is from the Ducks Boards, and I feel that I should pass this on, as NOBODY should be denied playoff hockey EVER.

"1) make sure you have the following installed and updated to the most recent patch/softwareupdate/release - - VLC and Windows Media Player (WMP) (for viewing the games). SOP CAST and TVU Player (for accessing the games - if they are available on sopcast, you wont need tvu, but if they are only on sop, you need tvu, because they may be available through their channels..)

EDIT from D13.... I Googled SOPCAST and found their software no problem. This is all I had to install.

2) On Game night, go to the following link:

http://myp2p.eu/NHL.htm

You will browse the page to find your game. Keep in mind that a game could be on the same channel that another is on, and they are waiting for another to end (not the case most of the times). Once you find the game you want to watch, you will also have to keep in mind that the stream of video probably WILL NOT be active until the game starts, due to bandwith reasons.

Once the game time arrives, wait a couple minutes. (or you can try right away, but i find 2 mins or so usually allows them to have it up and running etc. etc.) click on the link.

Once you click on the link, sopcast or tvu will open. Once that opens, if the video DOES NOT DISPLAY, follow step three and onward; if the video/stream displays and you can watch. AWESOME!

so, no video huh? here's step three, i wont leave you hanging fellow Ducks buddy!!!

*drumrolls*

3) So the video didn't work? The reason you updated WMP was to possibly bypass this issue. The reason you downloaded the most recent copy of VLC player was so that you had a backup plan!

Open up VLC player, follow these steps....

a)click "file" (upper left hand menu option..)

b)once file menu drops down, click "open network stream"

c)click on the little bubble that is next to the line of text: "HTTP/HTTPS/FTP/MMS URL (big empty white box)"

d) once you click that bubble..you will see the big empty white box.

e) have a twinkie or a beer, you're doing well timmy.

f)enter into the box, the following (without the quotations)

"127.0.0.1:8902"

g)Click Ok (do a thumbs up with both hands pointing at your monitor doing a Fonzie "HEYYYYY" after you click ok)

h)your game should take anywhere from 1 sec to a min or two to buffer(all depending on your connection, and the buffers and all the fun networking mumbo-jumbo you don't care about because you want to watch The Ducks kick some ass...)

and finally.

the most important step...

Have a Guinness, and a shot of Jameson or the Knot, or sip on a glass of middleton (or whatever the hell you drink...), and watch those Ducks win the stanley cup.

If you have questions, I will most likely be online during game day (game five was an off day because the roommate forgot to pay the cable bill...I was not happy.) So either find apost where others are having issues, or create one, or message me (messaging me may not be the best of ideas, I tend to forget to check messages...)

I'm babbling.

like a brook.

Stickers?

Twinkies?

Enjoy!

*edit, contained the replacement of "I decided to create a walk through of how to catch the games on your tv" changing tv to pc/computer.

UPDATE (From Ducks Streamer):

The Dish/Center Ice schedule has not been updated yet, so not sure if the Ducks games will show up on CI for me or if they will only be available on Versus. If they do show up on CI, I'll have them available for you all on Sopcast NHL4 using the H.264 codec so view with VLC player. Good job on the procedures tieau. By the way, there's a post in the Sopcast forum of the myp2p.eu site showing how to make VLC the default external player for Sopcast, and it works great.

Hope this helps anyone looking to get games they can't normally see. This all legit as far as I know, and works fine for me.

i'd read that game one (wings sharks) was only going to be on Versus and not FSNdet or FSNwest. So they better not black out the game for us tomorrow. (us meaning LA-area). But now I'm worried about game 2,3,5,6, and hopefully not 7. of course the people at the cable company don't know anything, THEY NEVER DO!

if you guys and gals feel badly about sopcast being dubious legally...simply use CBC's new live streaming feeds. I do, and its better quality than sopcast...

oh no, I'm watching canadian TV in america. boo hoo.

cool....

I didn't realize there were so many SOP threads.

Seriously, this will SUCK if Anaheim gets too far.

...oh, and Canadian TV is the greatest. I love getting the CBC, TSN, and HNIC feeds on Center Ice. The Molson commercials alone are worth the price.

The Ana/Van game 1 was blacked out on Versus in L.A. because it, like most Duck games is shown locally on KDOC. You should get this channel through your cable company. It is channel 962 on DirecTv. But it is just a local O.C. channel and any L.A. cable provider should have it.

Po-TAY-to

Po-TAH-to

It's all in the semantics. Yes, technically, the softwre is legal, it's the use use for this purpose that's illegal.

To clarify, the software isn't illegal, but what they are doing with it IS....

BTW I'm pretty sure the site that streams that isn't in the US.

I didn't need these b/c I have CI and Vs., but I tried it anyway and it said Canadian viewers only.
