When the Sharks and Kings aren't playing, then the Ducks have fans

AMEN! I'm from San Diego. Best city ever.

Oh, this is going to be fun! I hope you stick around. This banter is quite entertaining. But, I wouldn't expect a NoCal sports fan to be able to keep up for too long ;)

Well this should get fun. Should really heat up when Detroit takes out the Ducks in 5, then you guys can talk about who played the Wings better.

Flames vs Wings tickets $700

Sharks vs Wings tickets $1200

Ducks vs Wings tickets $2000

Wings in a Parade down Woodward = Priceless

I got family in San Diego. Spent 3 summers their in fact. So I have kept in touch with quite a few of my boys out there. And the story I keep getting, during the regular season no one gives a rats ass about the ducks. But when the Kings are done and the Sharks are done, THEN the Ducks finally have support. Of course Im not talking about every single Ducks fan. But for the most part alot of these "ducks fans" are just secondary fans from LA and SJ just rooting for the Cali team.

no self respecting kings fan would openly root for the ducks (or vice versa). i'm not sure if the same is true with the sharks, but every kings fan i know absolutely hate the ducks and every ducks fan i know absoultely hate the kings. that said, san diego might not be the best place to get accurate information about la/oc hockey.

eh, i'm not crazy about sd. the gaslamp district is cool and the weather is nice, but that's just about it. unless you're on the beach, the scenery sucks. all the freeways down there suck. tj sucks. and sd sports absolutely sucks.

San Diego is a s***hole. I would rather hang out with the rich kids in LaJolla.

Ditto to what's already been said. Kings and Ducks fans hate each other, and NoCal hates SoCal.

However, there are a lot of casual bandwagoners who get into whichever team is making a playoff run (in any sport). Lots of casual sports fans who don't really follow a team until a team generates some excitement. It's annoying, but what're ya gonna do.

I should have stopped at "San Diego."

San Diego is a good city in certain parts, and La Jolla is considered part of San Diego. My brother was born there, but it still says 'San Diego' on his birth certificate.

I lived in California from June of 93 to November of 06.

Kings fans are much more loyal than Ducks fans, and the so-called Kings fans who are cheering on the rival Ducks are not true Kings fans, in my opinion. They don't like each other.

Not necessarily true. About 90% of the Kings fans I know (and I know A LOT) switched to the Sharks in the playoffs (not what I'd call 'loyal fans' but everyone's got some). Not always loyal. Ducks fans are getting there. It's only taken the Kings what, 40 years now? Give us a little time ;)

Yep Kings fans have to be more loyal cause they've never been good....takes some effort to cheer for a bad team! :P

in the niciest way possible thats the farthest from the truth

NO KINGS OR SHARKS fans will ever be ducks fans

SJ is 8 hours away from OC and not even the same envirnoment at all

thats like saying DET fans are pens fans when they get eliminated

But i will give that they are a decent fanbase but in socal its ALL ABOUT WINNING

nothing else matters

there are very few loyal fans ( like me :) )

I think this is all speculation... and a bit nuts too.

EDIT: not directed at the previous post, just this thread in general.

I was rooting for the Ducks back when Scott Stevens layed out Kariya. I would still love to see the Cup come to southern california.

I was a Kings fan somewhat before I was a SHarks fan... you have to remember that the Sharks were around only since 1991.

THe reason I can't root for the Ducks this year is becasue of Pronger, Selanne...and well, I just don't like them right now. Not feeling it.

I live in Los Angeles, and I know TONS of die hard, dedicated Kings and Ducks fans that do not jump ships. I'm a little confused by this poster's thread, as it is just his opinion. Los Angeles does love a winner, but each team has very loyal fans that have been there since the beginning.

Well, I haven't been here since 93, since I was only 3 then, but I've been here since my first ever game: Game 3 of the Western Conference Quarterfinals against the Detroit Red Wings in 2003. Never looked back since. There are dedicated fans. And you are totally correct in saying that it's just an opinion.

And SD people can't really make that judgement seeing how they hardly get any coverage of either team down in San Diego.
