Holmstrom should be on the list too...drafted in the 10th round, 257th overall....

Vladdy was drafted 221st overall!!!

And the WORST Wings pick....

Joe Murphy - Drafted 1st overall...yeah he ended up playing 779 games in the NHL, but never at the level originally expected...and he was a MAJOR bust for the Wings...

I could think of better names then that

Disappoinments

Fred Williams: 4th overall; 1976; 44 GP in NHL

Mike Blaisdell: 11th overall; 1980; 343 GP in NHL (192 with Wings)

Brent Fedyk: 8th overall; 1985; 470 GP in NHL (155 with Wings)

Kory Kocur: 17th overall; 1988; 0 GP in NHL; 146 GP in AHL

Curtis Bowen: 22nd overall; 1992; O GP in NHL; 145 in AHL

Okay good points. How about this I consider Daigle more of a disappointment because he had greater expectations. At the time, Daigle was unanimously the 1st overall pick. 1999, being one of the weakest drafts of all time, it could have been anyone. 1993 everyone knew Daigle was going number 1.

I think part of the reason Daigle was left off was because he was unanimously going to be #1 overall. Daigle was the 100%, can't-miss, no-s***, it-boy that year. Had Ottawa not drafted him, the entire hockey media world would have gone OMG WTF R THEY DOIN?????? and generally gone apes*** over the decision. The Sens basically had no choice but to take him, so it's more bad luck that he didn't pan out rather than poor drafting.

Oh not so; both Montreal, & Quebec were offering some very impressive packages of players/draft picks for the right to pick 1st overall.

OK, let me rephrase: Ottawa would have been looked at like fools had they kept the first pick and taken anybody besides Daigle. When at least two other franchises offer you a big fat compensation package in exchange for the chance to pick Daigle, that basically only reinforces the belief that Daigle really is worth it. Frankly, I think every team in the league would have taken Daigle with the first pick. Sidney Crosby is the first prospect since Daigle to have that kind of guaranteed-number-one hype - you just can't call it bad drafting to take him. Daigle not panning out was bad luck, not bad scouting.
