Wow! A 2 year $8 Million extension for a guy who's been a backup his entire career? What are they smoking in Leaf Land? You'd think they would have learned their lesson with Raycroft.

I don't see why they felt they had to extend his contract now. What was the big rush? Man, let the guy prove he's capable of being a starter first, then give him $8 Million if he's worth it.

Edit: I wonder in a year's time if they'll be trying to get rid of his contract too.

What the hell? Why cant Toronto wait a few months to see Toskala play a few games before paying him more than half the goaltenders in this league get paid? He is a good goaltender, but hes never been a starter before. Im not sure hes even gone a few months playing the majority of games before.

If Toskala ends up sucking, Toronto is screwed. If Toskala ends up playing well for his first few months in Toronto, they could still offer him that type of money and hed undoubtedly jump at it, after making 1.4M.

JFJ's critics are having a party over this one.

I think the Raycroft rumors really are true. If he did indeed have a future in Toronto, they wouldn't have already given Toskala an extension. Raycroft isn't really backup suited anyways. They can always just re-sign J.S. Aubin for that role, who's plenty capable.

I just hope the part of the rumors about him coming here aren't true. I hate Raycroft. He's an awful goalie, and for the entire season last year he blamed the fans for his downfall. He's not man enough to live up the fact he played a bad game, so he blames the fans. Ugh.

I guess if you're an average or backup goalie, a goal for yourself is to try and get traded to Toronto. They'll throw the starting job at you, and pay you big bucks before you even have to prove yourself.

Sounds like a good plan!
