The wheels are in motion....that much is certain..I got more confirmation just now, to go along with sources in California I talked to last night...this very preliminary stuff, but I am still very confident in this rumour. It could fall apart or it could gain momentum, but I believe we are looking at something that mayneed up to two weeks to play out...

Fellow Hockeybuzz writer Bill Meltzer lends this perspective...

"I have no idea whether or not there's anything to Selänne coming to the Flyers, but I know for a fact the Flyers have had flirtations with acquiring him on at least three different past ocassions-- going all the way back to his draft year in 1988; the 1995-96 death march of the Jets (Chicago had signed Tkachuk to a big offer sheet, and Winnipeg could no longer afford Selänne: Paddock and Clarke absolutely discussed a Selänne to Philly trade, but Anaheim could offer Tverdovsky and Kilger, then considered can't miss prospects, and the Flyers didn't have comparable young, inexpensive players to offer... the Flyers ended up dealing for Falloon instead), and the 2000-01 season when he ended up going to San Jose. So there is some history behind this, even if nothing happens."

I don't think he has any reason left to play, nor do I think he'll play for any team but Anaheim.

Philly can't logically afford him.

He may not have a reason to play, but he did have 48 goals and 46 helpers. I'd keep playing if I was that good.

The Ducks can afford Selanne. Just like the Rangers can afford Shanny. They would need to be creative, and get a deal done with a lot of incentives. But it can work.

I agree. If Selanne resigns with Anaheim, the ducks have some cap room now, not much, but some, but they won't have much in 2 years when they will have a considerable amount of players coming up for contract. Time and a certain restricted free agent named Dustin Penner, I firmly believe, is what Holland and company may well be looking hard at. I believe this kid is going to be very special power forward for years to come. Babcock and Holland type player. HMMMMM

Sooo, Anaheim's Burke doesn't really want to sign Penner to a long term contract, he has threatened to match any offer, Kenny offers trade bait (you fill in what you think here) to satisfy Burke, and offers Penner a 5-6 year contract at 3.5-4 million per year. I would do it, depending on trade bait.

What do you guys think???? :D:D

Right now any signing of a NHL player and not some half ass AHL player will satisfy me seriously weve lost 4 players and we got 1 that will actually play for us in the near future so any sigining now will be satisfying

Rangers have just under $10 million left to spend, but they still have to sign RFA's Lundqvist & Avery. In reality, they probably have $2-3 million or so left to spend on Shanahan, assuming they want to leave a million or two free for the season.

Selanne should re-sign with the Ducks for whatever they offer him. He is loved in Anaheim, his team just won the Cup, and has incredible chemistry with his team. He should re-sign, and not give them any bulls*** about how much he's being paid. God I hate these selfish players.

Ok, theres my probably unneeded rant. Just like the trillion other selfish player threads. Ok, I'm done.

I expect Selanne to either retire or re-sign for 1 year with the Ducks. I don't think the Flyers could afford anyone else, but you never know. He might be excited by their recent signings and decide to join the party.

I think a guy like someone to consider for next season is Getzlaf. He will be a RFA, and with the current order of the DUcks payroll, there could be some issues there.

Penner isn't a RFA until 2010, by then Matty, and others should be gone and the cap should be increased.

Penner is a RFA right now.

No. WIthout Neidemeir, Aneheim is screwed. Without Neidemeier OR Selane, Aneheim is done. Another 1 hit (year) wonder just like Tampa and Carolina. You can't loose your #1 Defenseman and your #1 Forward and expect to be at the same level.

If Selane were to go to Philly - who cares? Philly was the WORST team in the league last year. There are 20+ guys on the roster. Signing 3 or 4 top notch guys will not suddenly make them Stanley Cup contenders. For them to even make the playoffs would be an accomplishment.

I know Selanne was productive last season, but he didn't look that great in the playoffs, especially against the Wings. I think that with Bertuzzi signed, Selanne is an acceptable loss for the Ducks.
