up2here 41 Report post Posted September 28, 2007 Ken and Mickey mentioned during last nights game that Draper would be playing mostly RW this year. Then during the game they said a few times that Kris was 6th in the league in faceoffs last year and I know that he has been in the top ten in that catagory for most of the last few years. My question is why would you move a guy who is that good at faceoffs to the wing? This one has me puzzled..
Heroes of Hockeytown 694 Report post Posted September 28, 2007 (edited) He could very easily take draws and then return to RW for the rest of his shift... a not uncommon practice. Edited September 28, 2007 by Heroes of Hockeytown

Hank 0 Report post Posted September 28, 2007 True, but then why not just let him play center? The Wings brass likes the centres they have now. They really like Kopecky's size down the middle and with Kris at centre, that can't happen. Kris makes a better winger 5-on-5 than he does a centre. He has no hands and he gets out muscled when facing large centres like Thornton and Getzlaf. I also like Drapes on the wing because then Flip can stay a centre where he belongs. They can still use Draper for key faceoffs I suppose.

Rob the Badger 0 Report post Posted September 28, 2007 Drapes has to take the face offs. He's the best guy on the team when it comes to face offs. One of the best in the league.
redwingfan19 293 Report post Posted September 28, 2007 He will be taking faceoffs then switch over to the wing, then who ever is on the wing switches over to center after the faceoff.
Cicada 4 Report post Posted September 28, 2007 drapes will be taking a hell of a lot of PK draws
redwingfan19 293 Report post Posted September 28, 2007 drapes will be taking a hell of a lot of PK draws I'd imagine Drapes will play center on the PK he should be paired with Malts as usual and we all know Malts doesn't take faceoffs. I think he will only play the wing 5 on 5.
Turkey 0 Report post Posted September 28, 2007 My understanding is that this move is meant to capitalize on Draper's speed and play him on a scoring line. If he was playing center he'd be third line at best, behind Datsyuk and Zetterberg. Draper showed us he could score a couple seasons ago. Babcock is looking for more of that with this move. That's what I've read, anyway.
Hank 0 Report post Posted September 28, 2007 He will be taking faceoffs then switch over to the wing, then who ever is on the wing switches over to center after the faceoff. Exactly. That's what Iginla and McCarty have done for years. They take the draw and then assume their position. That sounded kind of bad eh?
