Wow, I'm sorry to hear that about Randy. When I was growing up, I used to be in the Goalie's Den all the time. I still remember the first autograph signing they had. It was Tim Chevaldae and Paul Ysebaert. Ysebaert got hurt the night before and had to miss it. They're all good guys in there. Hopefully Randy comes through this ok.

I don't even want to know how much money I've spent at that store over the years.

Right now he is getting some experimental treatment in California.

Red Wings' alums team up to help 'Goalie's Den' owner battle cancer

Posted by George James Malik October 30, 2007 09:32AM

The Detroit Red Wings' Alumni Association are holding a fundraiser to help an old friend--their practice goalie--battle cancer:

October 30, Detroit News: Randy Cosens never played in the National Hockey League, but he's spent years as a goalie with the Detroit Red Wings Alumni team. That means he's practiced with the team, which means in turn that he's stood in the net while former professionals fired slapshots at his head.

You would think that's enough danger for one lifetime, but Cosens, 48, the owner of The Goalie's Den hockey memorabilia store in Troy, went and contracted a rare form of cancer. So some of his hall of fame hockey friends are helping to throw a banquet to defray his medical bills.

An Evening with Detroit Hockey Legends will feature Gordie Howe, Ted Lindsay and Scotty Bowman, just to start with. The emcee will be former Red Wing Shawn Burr, who spent enough time in Bowman's doghouse that their interaction alone should be worth $75 a ticket or $700 for a table of 10. The event is Nov. 6 at the Mirage Banquet Hall, 16980 18 Mile, Clinton Township. Face-off is 6 p.m. For tickets, call the Goalie's Den at (248) 680-9766.

As you might imagine, plenty of hockey treasures will be up for auction. Also, 10 raffle winners will get their photo taken with Howe, Lindsay and Bowman and will receive a puck signed by all three. The puck will be handed to them, not shot at them, which immediately puts them one-up on Cosens.

I just wanted to pin this up so everyone has a chance to see it.

I've been there a few times now, burning a hole in my wallet every time -- usually purchasing stuff for my daughters, and the ownership there is really great. I'll keep Randy and his family in my thoughts and prayers.

This goes double for me. Tim and I waited in line to see Ozzie and Vernon, Lidstrom, Knuble//Ericsson, and some others. Though I'm sorry to say I don't know who exactly this is. I assume it's the main store owner? Is he the main guy who always there now?

I am NOT really sure. I know that he has been in California for experiemental treatment and is supposed to be back by the dinner. I am thinking if you go to the web page and you see who has came into the store for signings... it is him.
