WingNut199 0 Report post Posted November 16, 2007 OK, I have never been to Detroit, much less the Joe. I am probably not qualified to make any sort of suggestion, but ignorance has never stopped me before. I think aiming at younger fans is key. How about giving away sets of, say, four tickets to certain games? Get together with the schools and have these tickets be given away at school. Any student with perfect attendance during a preset time can register to have his/her name put in a drawing. Throw in a dog and soda for each person, and you have the opportunity to expose new fans to the game, as well as rewarding kids for staying in school. Good PR, a few more seats filled, and a memory the kid will have for a lifetime. Who knows? The kid may grow up to be a season ticket holder. Just a thought. Rip as you will. THERE YA GO! Thats what I'm talking about.
oldredbarnman 13 Report post Posted November 16, 2007 Why is it the Wings never have scheduled give away games? They always seem to let you know at the door if they're giving anything out. When the baseball season comes around, there are give aways at almost every game. Yes, I know there are more games and seats to be sold in baseball. But with the games not being sold out, have puck nights, shirt nights, stick nights(so you can club a Hawks or Avs fan), or whatever. People may go more if they know they're getting something. edicius 3,269 Report post Posted November 16, 2007 Well for many years, with Yzerman, Shanahan, McCarty, Lapointe, Draper, Maltby, Chelios, Lidstrom, Fedorov, etc. on the team and 3 Stanley Cups in 6 years, the Wings didn't have to market at all really. This is the first year in a long time the team actually has to market itself. Mike Illitch is a very successful business man, I'm sure they've been talking about new marketing ideas all season long. See, this is why I think marketing the Wings' minor league talent would be a smart move, since they'll (hopefully) be the future stars of the team. Call it "Waiting In The Wings" or something. Not this "Fire On Ice" garbage. And Jarome Iginla is a tool.

good morning 10 Report post Posted November 17, 2007 Datsyuk may be a bit hard to market - he's so quiet and shy, and hardly speaks english...and he's not romping around with Kournikova like Federov back in the day. but he could be promoted by default if we were doing more to put Zetterberg's name out in the Detroit environment. Zata is infinitely marketable...he's young, very attractive, has that swedish popstar girlfriend, speaks good english...shallow, yes, but that's the whole point of advertising. Zetterberg has pizzazz. They should be planting people into a few of the Joe's empty seats to start cheers. LOWER TICKET PRICES! Everyone's saying it, but it bears repeating. Michigan's economy is just so resoundingly awful...what other state almost SHUT DOWN in October due to budget deficits? We bled jobs in areas where hockey fans are often found - manufacturing, etc. They are slowly being replaced by service jobs which are often filled by people new to the state. Wings marketing team should be targeting them by offering a sort of "Welcome Wagon" of Wings merchandise, maybe even tickets to a lucky few. Stop clamping down on the traditions that brought old fans to the game; we want to see some freaking octopi.

A couple years ago when Yzerman was still on the team, I remarked that it was a mistake that they weren't marketing the young guys more. The should cater more to the fan favorites...the future, etc. Z, Pavs...even Ozzie as he's a favorite..whoever has personality and some marketability. Give people a team to root for...something to pull for...fan favorites.
GMRwings1983 8,804 Report post Posted November 17, 2007 Datsyuk should wear sunglasses for every one of his interviews, and only refer to himself in the 3rd person. Also, it wouldn't hurt to have a girl at each arm. That would definiitely help his marketing, and let's see Hank compete with that.
Hockeytown0001 7,652 Report post Posted November 17, 2007 Actually, I believe they've sold quite well. I recall when they announced the program would be extended the Wings organization said that the October $9 seats had sold out. I found that out better than anyone. Me and a friend went to the Wings 3rd home game against Calgary and arrived at the earliest point when the doors were opened. The 9 dollar seats were gonne. I had exactly enough to buy 2 standing room seats after spending 15 on parking. No concessions or anything. Still a good game though.
DaKineMaui 8 Report post Posted November 17, 2007 oh man... nice They should put hockey back in the Palace... I had Vipers Season tickets throughout Regular Season and post season... loved every second of it... seeing Samsonov and the rest of the crew raise the Turner Cup was amazing. Since you bring up the Vipers - and speaking of marketing - My wife and I once made an attempt to take my little brother to one of their regular season games, with "free tickets" that were on many counters at various party stores in the Detroit area. This would have been his first hockey game. We walked around the Palace concourse until we reached the "free" section and were told by an usher that the "free section" was full. "Sorry". Walked around for a bit more to ask some questions about exactly WTF I was supposed to do now? Nope - no answers. So I had to tell my 8 year old brother that we had to leave. And then I had to threaten to remove the balls off the parking attendant who tried to refuse me my parking money back. Banner ******* day! Proud day. On another quick note: I watch a lot of the west coast games out here and they have some awesome deals. Y'know the ones? "Hey folks! 4 Kings tix for saturday, 4 hot dogs and 4 cokes for ~$44!" I think that puts asses in seats.
