Echolalia 2,961 Report post Posted November 27, 2007 (edited) http://www.nhl.com/nhl/app/?service=page&a...rticleid=343024 from 4 to 5 EST we finally have our chance to get something going. Although I'm positive phone calls and emails will be screened, its still worth a shot. Edited November 27, 2007 by Echolalia
Flip-check 6 Report post Posted November 27, 2007 I bet ol' Gary has a few soft-callers phone in ontop of it all. "What's it like being the Commish for the COOLEST GAME ON EARTHâ„¢?" "How was your golf outing with Burkie last weekend? I mean err how do you think NHL Owner golf charities would benefit the children midgets and lepers of the world, etc" "Gary, Jules Verne calling in, always been a fan. You do such a great job with such a historied game I just don't know how you do it. I liked hearing you talk about "NHL: The Movie" and likening it to "BRATZ: The Movie", tell us more about this intriguing project you have in mind! XOXO"
vladdy16 2,154 Report post Posted November 27, 2007 Here's the question I emailed in: As an NHL fan for over 40 years, I am growing more and more disturbed over the course the NHL has taken in recent years. I understand you are attempting to grow the market for the sport, but it would appear to me and almost the entire NHLFA and many thousands of fans more that you are changing the sport to fit your marketing plan and not the other way around. How long will you pander to the lowest common denominator and alienate long-term fans that have supported the sport for years in the process? Every single season ticket holder I know has given up their tickets this year. Do you think it's possible to make up for this fan loss, and if so, how long do you think it will take? Somehow I don't think this will be addressed - just a feeling. But it felt strangely good to send it off where some flunky will read and delete it.
Hank 0 Report post Posted November 27, 2007 I'm not sure how many people are interested in this but Gary Bettman and Bill Clement will have a weekly, 1 hour show at 4:00 pm. You can listen to it on your XM radio or at NHL.com (http://www.nhl.com/radio/index.html). Because I forgot my stupid portable XM radio and my companies firewall blocks access to the NHL radio would anyone mind listening to this show and report back what's being said. According to the guys at XM 204 Bettman will be answering phone calls and emails and he won't avoid hard questions from fans. Let me know how the first show goes if you could. Thanks! Echolalia 2,961 Report post Posted November 27, 2007 The big thing that I'm hoping for is that so many people call/email in with complaints and whatnot that they cannot ignore that the nhl could be much much better than it is now, and there is alot of weaknesses that are spurring up since the Bettman era began. Like I said, I'm sure the calls will be screened and emails deleted, but those on the inside will know at least that the fans aren't happy
edicius 3,269 Report post Posted November 27, 2007 Crap, I totally forgot about this. Aux is right though...hopefully it'll be available as a podcast or at least a transcription somewhere.
auxlepli 17 Report post Posted November 28, 2007 I looked for it earlier tonight on nhl.com, couldn't find it, but the folks at firebettman.com are hosting it. http://www.letsgowings.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=46597

I only got to hear a short amount of it, but I like how he addressed the issue that scoring is down and defensive systems like the trap are as prevelent today as they've ever been. He made mention that the league and the competition committee are looking into this. I hope they find a way to resolve it without tinkering too much. Getting the goalie gear to human standards would be a perfect start.

From what I've read over the past few months, I think the league is leaning toward making the nets larger, including bowing the posts and crossbars out
BlueMonk 102 Report post Posted November 28, 2007 They aired this during a time I just can't listen to XM radio. I have the Home Ice station on in the morning, at lunch and on the drive home. But 4pm is one time I'm never in my car, so I missed it.
auxlepli 17 Report post Posted December 2, 2007 (edited) Just looked again, and still no luck. I can't believe I can't find a podcast to this. You'd think the NHL would let fans subscribe to this since it's supposed to be a regular feature. That other link is nice but it's like 58 MB. I guess that's not too bad considering it's about an hour long. Edited December 2, 2007 by auxlepli

auxlepli 17 Report post Posted December 3, 2007 I caught the last half of the show this morning. Not too bad, from what I heard. What do you mean, "not too bad?" Sound quality, quality of the show, how Bettman is able to spin topics, or somthing completely different?
