Update from Wednesday's practice

Let's see where we stand after the new year. Considering that Dom's played practically the same amount of games as Ozzie with about half the success, he's got some catching up to do between now and 12/31.

Hopefully Babcock has learned a bit about handling goaltenders since the Legace/playoffs debacle of '06.

It always amazes me how people let biases get in the way of the facts. Hasek should be kept on a short leash until he has "better-than-ok" game. If that means starting 1 of every 3 games, so be it. I dont give a crap if his name is Hasek, Leclaire, Roy, Brodeur, Sawchuck, or if hes some bionic combination of all those guys. You reward the guy thats playing well. End of story.

Under no circumstances should a player be rewarded for PAST accomplisments. Period.

I'm sorry but that is one of the most ignorant statements I have heard in a long time. That is what is wrong with society today. No loyalty, no appreciation. It's one thing if we give Dom a definate chance and he just can't play anymore, but it's TOTALLY different to count him out after 11 games. Give me a break.

A man as talented as Dom does not lose his abilities in 11 games. I'm sorry but that's just not logical.

I draw a parallel from Yzerman's last season. He was playing on the fourth line, in a checking role. He was completely misused. He was never a checker, he was always a very skilled finesse player. YOU DON'T LOSE THAT. The skill doesn't go away. It became apparent when you'd see him make amazing moves and highlight reel goals (like the one on Brodeur his last few games) and that 9 or 10 game point streak he went on towards the end of the season. Yzerman's body was TRULY falling apart.. he still had the game.

Dom's body is getting older, but he's not injured.. he's fine. and like Yzerman, he still has his game.

Watch Dom in practice or warmups and you'll see, not only does he still have game, but he also still has firey passion.

Um, if dom was this great goalie everyone is claiming him to be, why didn't the other teams try and sign him? LA needed a goalie at the beginning of the year, so did other clubs. We didn't have him under contract at the end of last year. Before anyone says the same about osgood, he was signed last year for two years.

Excuse me guy, but number 1: you don't know that other teams didn't make offers. #2 just because someone isn't made other offers doesn't make them a bad player. No one wanted Dan Cleary, Mikael Samuelsson, Larry Murphy, Draper, the list goes on. Shoot, wasn't Steve Sullivan claimed off of waivers a few years back?? The point is, it is simply a fact that Dominik Hasek is one of the most talented goalies ever to play the game. Not only was he extremely talent, but he was SO talented that he revolutionized the position, and created his OWN playing style (one that was VERY effective and virtually impossible to duplicate/teach). And for you Osgood fans out there, did you happen to notice the breakaway the other night, and see how Osgood made a remarkable save.. however he was sprawled out flat on his back.. Hasek style. It worked, you can't argue a fact like that.

Bahh too many injuries. Hopefully with some R&R Draper can come back asap. And Drake finally gets the cage off - look out :D

As for the goalie war this thread has turned into, both sides need to :beerbuddy: We're all on the same side.

I like both goalies, but bottomline the point of the sport is team wins. I favor whoever is best for the team, and right now at this point in time not in the past nor in the projected future that goalie is Ozzie. Ride him while he's hot, and let Dom have a turn every few games untili that simple fact changes.

Dom is uninterested out there this year...

he is not playing like he did last year and seems not to care...

being 42, hes thinking about more than just hockey...

he himself has said after a few games he should have made some of those saves...

i hope to see Osgood start most of our games...

You're just totally regurgitating Ed Olczyk's EXACT comments WORD FOR WORD....from the Calgary game. Does anyone really believe that Ed Olczyk has any insight into anything to do w/ the Red Wings? Let alone know what Hasek is thinking & feeling...pffft come on

He's getting his chances. No one's counting him out.

Good god, people, get your heads out of your asses.

I agree! I don't think Dom should be pulled completely. I don't think I would want him to start against Vinny. Allow him to warm up on the improving yotes and gor from there. I am not a dom hater, or an Ozzy hater. When a teamn is clearly putting together the wins with one goalie I think that you should stick to that goalie. Bottom line it is about wins.

Is it possible that Dom has not warranted a removal of his position or just that Ozzy has earned a chance at his?

The best thing about Ozzy in net is he clearly learned alot from Hasek. That is one thing the Ozzy idiot nuttbags that are just on the bandwagon fail to realize. Watch Ozzy play and if anything else he is doing better becuase he plays like Dom. Just my thoughts...

I qouted this becuase you put Leclaire with Roy, Brodeur and Sawchuck. Are thinking Pascal Leclaire? CUase that would be funny...

I agree with you though that past accomplishments should not be rewarded with playing time. Past accomplishments is what gets you the job, You gotta play to those standards to keep it.
