I have missed this thread, but I have been watching here and there. I never watch much of the Australian Open or the French Open, for whatever reason.

I am REALLY hoping Blake pulls off something awesome!!

Ana!!! Defeated Venus in straight sets. She was 0-4 against her and probably the opponent she most struggles against. So this was a brilliant win on the big stage.

Through to the SF's where she'll meet Hantuchova.

I'll post more pics later but I took this one which I like.

 I don't want to jinx her,but... What's another Hantuchova after Venus? ;)

Djokovic looks impressive, right now I think Federer doesn't have a chance against him (if he doesn't have mental breakdowns).

Women's SF:

Sharapova v Jankovic- Maria in 2. Jankovic not 100% and not playing at her best whereas Maria is in the best form of her life.

Ivanovic v Hantuchova- Ana in 2. Ana is just too strong and has too many weapons. She really wants to win the AO and I can see it happening.

Mens SF:

Nadal v Tsonga- Nadal in 4. Tsonga to come out strong and take the 1st but Nadal will wear him down as usual. A win to Tsong would make the final a shocker, so Nadal has to win. Cmon Rafa!

Federer v Djokovic- Novak in 5. It's the one we've all been waiting for. This prediction is purely out of hope but Djokovic hasn't dropped a set and finally looks ready to beat the world #1 in a Slam, here's hoping anyway.

I agree with the majority of your predictions, but I'll throw in my 2 cents. Jankovic isn't 100% and she hasn't been that good either. She's really barely gotten by in a few matches already, and that won't do against Sharapova.

Djokovic is playing great and he truly has the weapons and ability to beat Federer. That being said, seeing Djokovic grabbing his chest last night (or Austrailia's afternoon for those not in North America) was a cause for concern. If its nothing more than just a fluke and doesn't carry over to the next match, things should be real interesting. Speaking of which, any news on what was ailing his chest?

ANA! What a great fight, down 0-6, 0-2 but she fought back to take the match! What a comeback! Into the Australian Open Final, can't believe it!

Btw, great fight by Blake last night, there's no way he deserved to lose in straight sets.

Yea..Tsonga is huge surprise, but Roger is gonna win it all...again.

There went any hope of Federer losing this Slam. Shame, I really, REALLY wanted to see Nadal play Federer because I’m always confident of Rafa winning when the two meet. I don't like Tsonga so my only hope is Djokovic. If he loses, I don't know if I'll even watch the final. Maybe the first set, but if it's looking like a win to Federer I'll swtich it off.

So you're saying it'll be the same old story, with Roger's opponent NOT winning the set points (hitting easy volleys wide  ) & basically choking whenever there's important points to be won?

I can see that might be the case, but I'm still counting on Djokovic.

Oh my gosh, Novak Djokovic you are a dead set LEGEND! Although this has been a terrific tournament, finally some life has been breathed into the tennis world! Federer has been beaten at a Grand Slam. I would always say to my brother that Djokovic beat Federer last year but he’d always say that it’s only 3 sets and no one can beat him over 5 sets. Well I can’t believe what’s just happened; Federer got beaten in STRAIGHT SETS, by 20 year old Novak Djokovic. This young man could be absolutely amazing, not that he isn’t already!

He actually had tactics against him, and he didn’t choke unlike so many others on tour (cough, Berdych, cough). He kept hitting it to Federer’s backhand time and time again and failed to give him an inch on that side. It worked extremely well.

You wouldn't belief how much relieft I have right now! Now for tomorrow's womens final, hopefully my heart can take it. Cmon Ana!

Crap - I've been waiting several years to watch a match Federer loses (ignore the French) but I elected to go skiing all day and missed it! Hopefully it will be on replay on the tennis channel.

Good tourny so far - I'll be watching the women's final here in a few hours - my bet is Sharapova wins vs Ivanovic - here first final I think - she will be nervous - very fun player to watch though...

Djoko did what we wanted him to do,he'll win this one AND both Wimbledon/US Open.

With Rafa taking the French Open title,I'm predicting a grand slamless year for Roger.

Now for tomorrow's womens final, hopefully my heart can take it. Cmon Ana!

It'll be a thriller, watch it with someone who knows CPR.

Good luck to Ana!

So sad. She had her chances, up 5-4 and Maria down 15-30, but she tried a drop shot. It hit the bottom of the net, and the momentum switched for the remainder of the set. The second set was tight but Ana was broken at 3-3 and from there Maria ran away with it. A missed chance but a much improved showing to her FO final.

Here are a few pics I took of her while I was in Melbourne.

I'll post some more of others players a little later. For now, go Djokovic!

Congrats to Djokovic.

It wasn't the greatest final ever, but a good battle anyways.

The funny thing is my cell was ringing constantly, with 3 different friends complaining about this game. They seemed to be very disappointed and missing Federer a lot.

"I can't watch this crap much longer,at least Roger can actually play tennis",was the best comment.

Odd thing is none of my friends actually like Federer. I wonder what made this final so repulsive to them?

Gee, I thought it was a very good final at a very high standard. While it felt a bit weird that Federer wasn’t playing, I absolutely loved the fact he wasn’t there and it had a fresh feeling to it.

Very intense game, mainly due to the crowd who were all going for Tsonga (stupid people) so Novak had two opponents out there. In the end he was just too good, too strong and gradually wore him down.

Well done Novak, Australian Open Champion for 2008!

TBH, I knew Djokovic had a chance against Federer, but the utter dismantling of Roger was unbelievable. Straight sets over a guy that's been ranked number 1 for the last 207 straight weeks, not to mention the multiple-time defending champion of 3 of the 4 majors.

Congrats Novak.
