Herr Hockey 0 Report post Posted January 6, 2008 We often talk about adding a physical presence to the blue line that will not cough up the puck too much. Does anybody think that in light of our great spot in the standings, that Carney could be a realistic trade for the Red Wings to Make with the Wild? What would Minny need in return? Reds4Life 51 Report post Posted January 6, 2008 (edited) I'd give only Drake for Carney, definitely no prospects. edit: maybe Kopecky. Edited January 6, 2008 by Reds4Life
Rice 42 Report post Posted January 6, 2008 I was calling for Carney a couple of years ago along with Salei. He's getting up there so I don't know how good he is anymore. However, I think he's the type of guy the Wings need on defense. Minnesota is going to make the playoffs so they won't be trading him. Witt may be a good option, although he's signed for one more year at $3 million. The Islanders also have a shot at making the playoffs.
BeeRYCE 2 Report post Posted January 6, 2008 Keith Carney is one of the best one on one defenders in the league. He'd be a good presence.
YoungGuns1340 1 Report post Posted January 6, 2008 Minnesota wont be trading him? If hes so important, why exactly is he been a healthy scratch several times already this season? Hes lost more than a couple steps and is not what he was when he manhandled the Wings offense in 04. If the Wings wanted to trade for him, they shouldnt offer more than a 3rd/4th round pick. At this point in Carneys career, Id probably even take Lilja over Carney.
GMRwings1983 8,804 Report post Posted January 6, 2008 Carney doesnt' strike me as an overly physical defenseman. He's basically a slightly bigger version of Chelios at this point in his career. If we're going to make a move for a defenseman, I'd like someone more physical than Carney.

GMRwings1983 8,804 Report post Posted January 7, 2008 I'm thinking that if the Wings pursue a Minnesota player, it would be Brian Rolston moreso than Carney. Yeah, but the price would be higher. I'd also love for us to go after Boogaard, but I know that will never happen.
