up2here 41 Report post Posted January 10, 2008 I saw that Roberto Luongo was skipping the all-star game and it got me thinkin about Hank's back. Obviously none of us here know the severity of the injury or how he feels now,but it seems to me that he hasnt had the jump that he had earlier.
heals_3000 0 Report post Posted January 10, 2008 (edited) Luongo skipped because of family issues. His wife is expecting their child i believe. I don't think Hank will have much of a problem at the All Star Game as there isnt much of a purpose in physical contact at the game... mostly to show off the skills these players have. However I am a little worried but I do not think it'll be that bad.. heres hoping him and the boys represent detroit nicely and show the league that we have some of the best players on OUR team! Edit: spelling Edited January 10, 2008 by heals_3000
Flip-check 6 Report post Posted January 10, 2008 as there isnt much of a purpose in physical contact at the game... I think people here keep forgetting that. I don't know why. I hope he doesn't, because his appearance this year is probably the only thing to interest me in the All-Star game. And that's still just a remote interest. rwfan007 18 Report post Posted January 10, 2008 personally, i think if someone skips the all-star game for fear of injury is defeating the whole purpose of an all star game. players play for the fans (yes, they play for money, but without fans there is no money) and the fans get a chance to interact with the players by selecting their choice for a starting line-up. if a player skips because he is scared of getting hurt, then he is basically dissing the fans and robbing them of a chance to see the best athletes in the world on the same ice. It is an honor to be selected among the best of the best and they should not forfeit that chance, because look at the NFL and Sean Taylor, your longevity in any sport is far from guaranteed, knock on wood. thats my 2 cents
Flip-check 6 Report post Posted January 10, 2008 (edited) personally, i think if someone skips the all-star game for fear of injury is defeating the whole purpose of an all star game. The AS game doesn't really even have much a purpose other than to gather a bunch of guys for a game that... means nothing and isn't all that exciting either. I hate to be a naysayer here, and AS games from sport to sport *are* good things to showcase players with, but they're all so boring. And if I were a guy nursing something, I sure as hell would skip it. Your regular joe player who might be lucky to get one ASG nod in his career won't be as quick to, but the guys who know their worth in the league, they also know it's not worth it. But this isn't an issue 90% of the time anyway, so I don't know why I'm posting Edited January 10, 2008 by Flip-check
puckloo39 5,686 Report post Posted January 10, 2008 for what it's worth, I don't see why Hank shouldn't go. He seems fine after the recent injury. The east-west game and everything else about the ASG weekend is exhibition and basically no-contact hockey, so he ought to be fine. Hank doesn't need to rest at his age -- or if he does, his back's not the problem. Personally, I wish the Wings would all take a week off, but I can understand wanting to go. It's an honor of sorts and they've earned the recognition from the fans who voted for them. Luongo, on the other hand, has good reasons for not going, to take care of his family (current and expected).
BeeRYCE 2 Report post Posted January 10, 2008 Hank should go. He doesn't need rest, if anything he would need a workout, and nothing's more beneficial of a work out than the all star game.
