toby91_ca 620 Report post Posted January 10, 2008 It's still a joke, in terms of competition. I remember all the talk about the international teams improving around the 2002 Olympics (6 years ago now) and I know this is the under 18's, but there doesn't appear to have been any improvement. http://www.tsn.ca/canadian_hockey/news_sto...12&hubname= Canada is 3-0 with the following results: 11-2 10-1 17-
Reds4Life 51 Report post Posted January 10, 2008 well tbh whole woman hockey is a joke. Hockey should be full contact sport with big hits, great shots, plays etc. Woman hockey is more like figure-skating with puck.

As of two days ago I believe they were 2-0 with both wins coming via 11-0 scores. I hope this is the last time they do this. The 3 nations Cup is already ridiculous as it's always Canada-US in the final. Womans under 18 is even more useless. Why don't the Olympic squads just play a 7 game series once a year while the rest of the world catches up (if they even care).

You said the wrong thing moron my daughter plays hockey and has since she was 4 years old, go watch girls hockey at the lower levels and you will see the hits some great palys my daughter in the last 5 years has knocked 7 girls out cold on the ice and put several out of the game for good and has had 4 fights , she has over 500 pm in the last 4 years.Womans or girls hockey is the fastest growing sport in the US in the last few years so look things up and watch some games other then on the tube to really see what the girls can and have done, by the way figure skaters do not wear helmets ! Reds4Life 51 Report post Posted January 10, 2008 dear Sir, if you like woman hockey, ok watch games, buy jerseys, get autographs whatever. I do not like woman hockey. I saw quite a lot international games and did not enjoy it. But I do enjoy watching woman water polo. And thanks for letting me know figure skaters do not wear helmets. I had no idea before. Opie 308 Report post Posted January 10, 2008 Oddly enough in the Hockey East (NCAA) women's hockey is very very competitive, UNH and U Maine have taken their rivalry to the women's rink. I am not a huge fan of the game as I do like the checking, but it is almost as entertaining as European hockey, not as fast so it loses out a little, but if you actually watch it when it is some what competitive it is a good watch. The problem is once you go to the international stage (which is the only really televised games) only two countries have really embraced women's hockey and that is the US and Canada and that shows on the score board with 11-0 games! Give it time, people still have a "Women are feeble and weaker than men, they should not hit!!" mentality, once they realize it is women hitting women and open up the checking game( I mean Full on, they allow a little but not much) it will grow even more. I love the game of hockey weather it be men or woman and I will support both, I would love to see WNHL in the states so all thes girls get a chance to show what they can do on the ice instead of the few that get picked becuase of politics in the game. Keep in mind that in Russia hockey players are required or used to be to take ballet for balance and figure skating to learn there edges.
VM1138 1,921 Report post Posted January 10, 2008 All I remember about women hockey back in 2002 was that they were slow, they really FREAKED out whenever anyone came within a foot of them, let alone touched them, and the skill simply wasn't there.
DEVILSWATERBOY 10 Report post Posted January 10, 2008 yes I do agree but that was 6 years ago and like I said the game is evolving in the states for the woman or girls at the ages of 22 to 18 there were not that many teams for them so most played on boys teams and were used as 4 liners or defense but now with more girls or womans teams with the majority of them in Main, Michigan and Minnsota you will see a differant game with the group of girls that are between the ages of 17 and 13 now, in a few years give it time it will be more entertaining hell yes to the greatest game on earth

I am not doubting woman's ability to play hockey, nor am I against woman's hockey. I do belive there are girls who, as you mentioned, are able to make boys look bad. And I do understand some people enjoy this sport. But watching international games (I cannot watch any others) is not fun for me, even when Canada plays USA. So I cannot say anything about Mid West Elite League. About those Russians, they have some special training methods, but they do not make boys take ballet&figure skating for sure

Hockey should be full contact sport with big hits, great shots, plays etc. Woman hockey is more like figure-skating with puck. I wouldn't necessarily call it a joke But it's definatly not nearly as interesting to watch as men's. I do believe with time it will become a much higher contact sport with a lot more intensity - it's just how women are progressing in society as well. I went to one of my cousin's games and it actually gets pretty rough out there at times, there was some good board smashing

About those Russians, they have some special training methods, but they do not make boys take ballet&figure skating for sure check it out loook it up whatever but the plain fact is if you were planning to play for the Central Red Army team you had to take 1 year ballet and 1 year of figure skating, most of your power skating coaches were figure skaters, figure skaters are all about edges and you need to know your edges to be a good hockey player and in order to use your edges effectively you must have balance becuase if you dont have balance you will not trust your edges. one of the main problems with international womans hockey is they slow down the game so the lessor teams can some what compete with the better clubs Edited January 10, 2008 by DEVILSWATERBOY

Drimo 0 Report post Posted January 10, 2008 My beer league team captain is a woman... and she is a very good player. She takes hits like everyone else, plus she's always in the midst of the action. She's a good 2-way player. Our league also has a women's team that has a reputation for being a very dirty / chippy team. They usually get away with hooks and slashes without penalty and if they don't, they argue about it like none other.

I knew it was lopsided but 17-0? OMG. Who was that against? I've played agaisnt some pretty fantastic female hockey players in Men's leagues. I'm 6' 220. One gal (former national champion kick boxer) asked if the "B" on my chest (was wearing my Boston Bruins jersey at the time) stood for *****, cuz "you're gonna be my ***** after this shift!" and proceed to check me half way over the wall into the bench.
