12Newf 0 Report post Posted January 29, 2008 This one was good for a morning chuckle, the only theory i havent heard about the wings' poor attendance. http://www2.sportsnet.ca/blogs/sean_mccorm...th_mccormick_2/ Hummad asks: I am a Red Wings fan and was wondering what your thoughts are on the reasons for the Wings attendance problems. I've heard many opinions given ranging from the Michigan economy to the retirement of Steve Yzerman. The Dude says: Simple. Chris Chelios runs one of the concession stands at Joe Louis Arena. It's called "Cheli's Chili". I doubt very much if Chelios even LIKES chili, but if my nickname was Cheli, I'd open a chili stand and call it Cheli's Chili, too. Let's see … 18,0000 bowls of Cheli's Chili and a poorly ventilated arena. Would YOU pay $100 for a ticket to that? On a serious note, it's a combination of a poor Michigan economy, and fans spoiled by a consistently great team.

NeverForgetMac25 483 Report post Posted January 29, 2008 Priceless theory! On a serious note, it's a combination of a poor Michigan economy, and fans spoiled by a consistently great team. Spot on. True the economy is poor, but the fans in Michigan have seriously just become used to the Wings always winning. There's no parody in the standings for Detroit, as they continue to stay atop. It's hard for the general public to get excited about something that they've gotten used to for the past 16 years. It's gotten to the point where its redundant: Sunrise, Work, Red Wings Win, Sleep.
